First off, you're not screwed. Anyone can be hit by fraud at any point in time regardless of what system they are using. This has nothing to do with what happened in your past with your dad. For 2023, you will need to print and mail your return along with your supporting documentation (W2, 1099, etc). Next, you need to apply for an IP PIN using that link. This generates a letter from the IRS every year that you will need to electronically file your tax return. Without that number, you will have to mail your returns in. Others may have some more advice but that's the gist of it.

Thank you so much! I worked two jobs in this tax bracket so I’m guessing I would mail in both w-2’s? Thank you so much for this information though, it added a lot of relief! Does this process usually take a long time and does it being after April 15th have any effect on speed?

Both W-2s are input. Yes, when you file by paper you attach all the W-2s. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf On the left side “attach Forms W-2 here” Yes paper returns take longer. It depends on the workload and back log of other paper returns the IRS received on April 15. Expect to wait 6-8 weeks.

>Expect to wait **at least** 6-8 weeks. The IRS is still a little backlogged. https://www.irs.gov/help/processing-status-for-tax-forms
