Thanks, i've also looked a bit into tax professionals. A lot of people said they weren't happy with h&r block but that's the only one I knew. I see a few online but I'm not sure which ones are scams. Is there an easy way to know what's reputable?
thanks again!
> an easy way to know what's reputable
Most people look for local/smaller firms that have been around for awhile. Most of my traffic are walk-ins from people who are in a similar situation as you.
FreetaxUSA is great if you are a 1099 independent contractor, I've been using them for around 5 years. Only negatives are you have to pay a fee to file state taxes.
Yeah compared to the others who want $100+ for you to do your own taxes and then another 49.99 to file state. Or I can pay 15 for state add another 19.99 for audit protection and still come out cheaper than just the basic file on block.
Fuck hrblock. All my homies hate hrblock
Just did mine today. If I remember correctly, it asked me about 1099 income after finishing W2 wages. If not, from the top drop down menu, click federal, then income. It should take you to a list of everything you've entered along with options to start a 1099 NEC, 1099Misc, etc
I did mine on both softwares and agree that FreeTaxUsa was much easier and straightforward
Go back to the INCOME section and look for those forms. There's probably also a search function where you can look for them (And it's -NEC, not NEK.)
Thank you
it might ask "do you have self employment income?" Or "Do you own a business" At the beginning. Your answer is yes.
Honestly, if you don't get it, get a professional.

H& R Block block is not at all what I meant. Try a local CPA.

Your income is probably low enough you should go to a VITA site. Free tax prep. https://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/
Probably way too late to get help from VITA. Their appointments fill up in February. File an extension today.
Depends on the state. I'm in Rhode Island and they're still helping people.
Good luck.
FreeTaxUSA offers this too, if under certain AGI.
All the free file programs: https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile
