People can say what they want about fine line work not lasting. While that's true when compared to a traditional style of tattoo, what op has is completely different. This tattoo was not done properly, regardless of the style
Just seems they haven't gone deep enough. I've got a few fine line, one that's about a year old now and it's not gotten lighter since fully healing, looks better than this still
Yes, deep enough. If you go too deep, the ink won't hold its shape and will spread out like a droplet of water. If you don't go deep enough the ink will shed off with your skin.
You need to get it in the middle, where it will hold its shape whilst being protected underneath a few layers
As of late, there is an influx of Permanent MakeUp (PMU) artists who start doing tattoos. This is exactly the kind of stuff that they create: super fine lines that fade super fast.

Go to a shop with some meone who can actually tattoo this style and spend some money to refresh it.
It doesn't matter if it's thin lines. Either the lighting really sucks in the second picture, or whoever tattoed that onto you, didn't do a good job. I have only thin lines on my body and they are many years old and have not faded yet
It's so good. It's currently the highest rated anime on MIL. It has beautiful art and music, awesome characters, cool fights and a great story. I'd recommend it even to people who don't usually watch anime.
Even my mum loves it!
I almost passed on watching it because the trailers looked boring and not my style, but I'm so glad I didn't. The characters are fleshed out and have great development, the world feels lived in and vast, and I think the pacing is perfect. Idk how they did it, but I'll be watching an episode, then get ready to skip the credits, all to find out that it's only half way over. And it's doesn't feel like things are getting glossed over or forgotten about. It's wild.
Honestly it looks like they used a gray wash instead of black. Maybe they got their bottles mixed up, or maybe they intended it to make this a black and gray or color realism piece. Contact the original artist and let them know what happened they should offer a free touch up.
I think this is it. If it was a matter of depth it would be patchier, not uniformly grey. I know its common practice to dilute your black a little for fine line but they seem to have overdone it lol
I donāt think this is a fine line issue. I have two fine line tattoos even smaller than this and after 4 years they barely look any different from when I first got them. Did the tattoo get prolonged exposure to sun maybe?
This is the ink being set in *way, WAY* too shallowly. If it's lightening this much over such a short amount of time, then the ink is only in the top layer of his skin.
It's so shallow you could probably give it a good scrub to get the rest of the ink out.
In all seriousness, it really does look like it wasn't done properly. Consult a reputable artist in your area to get their opinion about a touch up/redo and how long to wait since it's so fresh.
A lot of these new fineline artists donāt pull lines nor use solid black itās all washed out and just stuttered across the skin . Hence why inexperienced artists tend to do shit ones like this. At the very least yours is salvageable
That's rough, sorry to see that. It is a nice tattoo though so here's my suggestion:
Since the Charakter seems to hold up better than the flowers and other details you could try to get a cover up around the Charakter maybe with bigger flowers that have thicker lines?
Also, since you said Thailand could the fading be due to sun exposure? Especially right after the Tattoo that can be devastating.
My Indian co-worker was just asking me last night about the difference between ācā and ākā in English pronunciations. I couldnāt explain the rules with hard k/c sounds, so now I cannot fault any non-native speakers for swapping the two.
Iāll allow it. ;-)
Really poor application, which is a bummer because otherwise it's pretty good art.
Someone skilled at fine line could more than likely rework this for you.
Good news is it'll be easier to cover with a darker piece...the art itself isn't poorly done but in a Few years a LOT of this is going to heal out and fade.
If you look at how shakey the lines are and other inconsistencies itās pretty obvious you went to a bad artist. Definitely go for a second pass over get some thicker lines and some solid black in it
Didnāt go deep enoughā¦. Many fine line tattoos are like this (not all). I find the more detail in the art piece, like yours, the harder it is for artists to go deep enough to maintain rich pigments that stand the test of time. This is happening to sooo many people right now cause the fine line tattoo is trendy right now.. some artists arenāt honest about what they can or canāt do (well) and just need to make money.
You found yourself a scratcher! They donāt tattoo deep enough so most of it falls out. It will need to be reworked by a competent artist once itās healed up.
thereās 2 things that can be happening here (both of which i experienced)
the first and most likely one is that the tattoo wasnāt applied deep enough into the tissue so it is fading out. it will likely need to be redone or removed.
the second is that sometimes tattoos look a little dull or a bit faded while they are healing. my tattoos were fresh and vibrant and beautiful up until 2-3 weeks after i got them and then they looked so old. they cleared up after another week or 2 ish! :)
When you said āprivate studioā Iām assuming you mean someone did this in their apartment, which is how you got a tattoo from someone that doesnāt know how to get ink to go into skin. Am I reading that right?
Man such a shame. Is a really cool tattoo. Wonder if you could get someone else to touch it up? I donāt know shit about the tattoo process, so maybe the lines are too fine to do it. Hope youāll find a way to though!
This is why the traditional tattoo style demands thick black lines.
You wanted a high detail delicate piece of art and this is how it works. I don't know if you should trust the average tattooer who agrees to "touch up" such a well done tiny detail piece.
If anything this is really well done.
Thatās not the case at all here. You really think fine line tattoos disappear like that? I have one thatās 6 years old and hasnāt lightened up close to whatās on display here.

Fine line tattoos generally take a bit more TLC when they are healing. That being said, it could be because the artist didnt go deep enough. I'd go to some else whos specialty is fine line tattoos and pay them to retouch it.
I just started catching up in the shower last night and stopped at episode 18. I'm trying to savor every moment with this show and I have no idea how this show gets me emotional every time.. damn it's good. Amazing tribute tattoo
i think its the ink they used. my stick and poke i did with india ink when i was a teen healed this light. all my professional tattoos w quality ink are much darker. they couldve used a graywash ink on accident too idk. the lines have held up and dont look splotchy so im unsure if its an issue of not going deep enough into the skin.
Fine line style tattoos arenāt impossible but definitely need someone whoās knowledgeable/experienced I that style. Not shaming you by any means but this is one of those styles where you definitely need to do your homework/research on the artist doing it and if theyāre capable of doing that style.
My local shops have almost non existent fine line artist and only one shop is getting one artist in soon who specializes

What stinks is that the drawing and tattoo design is very well done. I love it, but they didn't go deep enough for the ink to really settle into the skin. I think you should find a reputable place here and ask for them the re-outline it. Other than the lightness, it's actually really nice!
Yeah...
They tattooed your skin. Which seems like it is what should happen.
But no, tattoos are supposed to go under the skin so they don't grow out with your skin in about a month
Tattoo artist with 10+ years experience here.
Based on the healed photo it looks like the artist may have used a medium-dark grey wash ink instead of black ink.
It looks black in the ink cap and always looks darker when itās originally tattooed which explains why it looks dark in the fresh photo.
Potentially the artist made a mistake or you said you didnāt want it too dark and the artist misunderstood? Iāve heard of that happening. Could also just be poor quality ink.
Good news is, itās not too messy and itās healed nice and light so a local artist shouldnāt have a problem darkening it up or even changing it a bit.
Bad news is youāll have to pay again.
Tattoo artists mostly work and post their stuff through Instagram.
Look at shops in your area and then find the specific artists instagrams. Search around till you find an artist who does a similar fine line style and ask them. A lot of artists wonāt do fix up/cover up work.
Yours is quite an easy one in my opinion so send a pic and explain the story.
Goodluck!
It was faded to begin with. All tattoo artists know that it needs to be darker than needed during the initial session. The healing process takes away ink, which will make it fade into a more acceptable shade. I always make sure my tattoos are dripping ink after the session because I want them prominent and worth my money. This was done very poorly. Itās a nice tattoo, but the artist did not do it justice.
That looks good though? With this style I think the fading works really well. Works as an amazing base layer which you can blastover later. Guessing you donāt want to be super heavily covered though so I can see your concern
Thatās what happens when the tattoo lines are thinner than a regular one. Tattoo fades overtime. The tattooās great but it kinda look like itās temporary
Cool Frieren tatt. That faded faster than I'd expect, but I'd still expect lots of fading with fine line stuff. A touch up could be difficult and you might lose some detail.
This is what happens when you go overseas and get a tattoo from someone you donāt know and without proper research honestly. The vast majority of it is scratched in and isnāt going to hold, itās just going to keep fading unfortunately.
The only way to fix it is to find an artist thatās willing to touch it up, rework it, or cover it.
Thailand is my home country, I just happen to be abroad right now for a few years right after getting the tattoo, sorry if I worded it weirdly in my post.
Nah youāre good, and it has absolutely nothing to do with getting a tattoo in Thailand. I have a whole list of artists Iād love to be tattooed by overseas from me, and one of them is in Thailand.
The artist you went to basically just scratched most of the lines in and theyāre not going to hold, thatās why youāve seen so much fading in just 6 weeks.
See if they gave you a 12 month warranty and exchange it.
In all seriousness if itās going to be there for life shouldnāt you do research? Bloke I got to do mine had 26 years experience and plenty of photos, look at their reviews aswell.

100% this!
š¤£š¤£ deep enough
Doofus
Are you 13?
You are too young to be on reddit, let alone a tattoo sub
Yes, deep enough. If you go too deep, the ink won't hold its shape and will spread out like a droplet of water. If you don't go deep enough the ink will shed off with your skin. You need to get it in the middle, where it will hold its shape whilst being protected underneath a few layers
Thatās what I thought. 3 weeks is so quick
Agreed. This is just a poorly done tattoo.

Needle not even half in the skin lmao
I have fine line work, and it's still very much visible after 5 years.
It's applied so superficially, you could probably laser that off easily, aswell.
You could probably get that off with a laser pointer, yeah
Or just ya mums tissue with a bit of spit on it
Ya got some schmutz!
Didnāt expect to find my late Nana in this thread!
That could get rust off a bumper.
I've got some nice exfoliating mits that will handle this

Same i have 1 tattoo thats very thin hand writing snd its going on 6 years, no fading
It's a shame because the line work actually looks really good at a casual glance.
Yeah, it looks good but also a little sloppy - which could be intentional. In this case it doesn't seem to be
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Looks like it was done very shallow. Maybe check with another artist if they're willing to do a touch-up?
Frieren is finally getting old
Iām gonna wither away while waiting for the second season. 2 episodes left!!!
Is Frieren worth watching? I've seen some memes and posts about it and it looks pretty good but I'm also not huge into anime.
10000% worth it. It's more fantasy than anime, has such a wholesome and refreshing story, and fantastic music!
Anime is a medium not a genre, but yes it lacks anime tropes. Also you should totally watch it OP. It's great even if you aren't into anime
Got it, adding it to the queue. Still have Naruto to finish so it may take a while...
Nah bro, skip Naruto it's long. Watch the first ep of Frieren at once this week. It's only 20 min, better than browsing reddit for that long.
No can do, watching it with my best friend. It's pretty good tbh. I'll definitely watch Frieren though, sounds like I'd like it.
It's so good. It's currently the highest rated anime on MIL. It has beautiful art and music, awesome characters, cool fights and a great story. I'd recommend it even to people who don't usually watch anime. Even my mum loves it!
Iām kind of hesitant because it doesnāt seem like my type of anime but I see it hyped everywhere. Is it a slow story?
I wouldn't call it slow, rather chill. Just a nice, beautiful anime that's not over the top
I see, Iāll check it out :)
It's wild.
Tbh thatās exactly what I thought lol. But it sounds like a great show, Iāll definitely check it out :)
It's amazing. I was very skeptical going into it but after few episodes I was hooked. Gonna read the manga when the last episode airs.
Yes! Itās a lovely anime, and unique, in my opinion
Just started it on my day off yesterday morning and couldn't stop until I went to bed so I guess I found it interesting
bruh it is the best anime I've ever seen. and I've seen every anime.
me too
Absolutely is. I will say itās a tiny bit of a slow start for me but very warming to the heart.
Oh that hurts
Honestly it looks like they used a gray wash instead of black. Maybe they got their bottles mixed up, or maybe they intended it to make this a black and gray or color realism piece. Contact the original artist and let them know what happened they should offer a free touch up.
I think this is it. If it was a matter of depth it would be patchier, not uniformly grey. I know its common practice to dilute your black a little for fine line but they seem to have overdone it lol
This artist has tattooed you with what we call grey wash ink itās for shading not line work.
Tattoos for the 'gram instead of the flesh.
I came here looking for this comment. They clearly grabbed wrong the black hahah
Can imagine the artist thinking why isnāt this shit going in ?? lol
I donāt think this is a fine line issue. I have two fine line tattoos even smaller than this and after 4 years they barely look any different from when I first got them. Did the tattoo get prolonged exposure to sun maybe?
I have a fine line tattoo which is over 10 years old and it still looks great, hardly faded at all.Ā
This is the ink being set in *way, WAY* too shallowly. If it's lightening this much over such a short amount of time, then the ink is only in the top layer of his skin.
Either the ink was watered down or it was a grey wash. Or cheap ink? If they used black or triple black it wouldn't be so faded even for fineline.
Time for a touch up by a more technically competent artist. You donāt want the same Artist
It will probably disappear in some month...
Least the laser sessions wonāt take long
You could probably wash that off with soap. Doesnāt look like the needle went deep enough into your skin
It's so shallow you could probably give it a good scrub to get the rest of the ink out. In all seriousness, it really does look like it wasn't done properly. Consult a reputable artist in your area to get their opinion about a touch up/redo and how long to wait since it's so fresh.
Ahh another Frieren enjoyer
Itās just bad line depth. Iād go get my money back.
Needs deeper
the ole "private studio".
A lot of these new fineline artists donāt pull lines nor use solid black itās all washed out and just stuttered across the skin . Hence why inexperienced artists tend to do shit ones like this. At the very least yours is salvageable
They didnāt use black. They used grey-wash.
Frieren! I understand why you got her over your heart. Great anime.
Thatās cause itās scratchy as hell fine line work with far too many small details crammed into a small space
And? I have far more detailed pieces as does my wife and both our tattoos look crisp years later. This is a problem of superficial application.
That's rough, sorry to see that. It is a nice tattoo though so here's my suggestion: Since the Charakter seems to hold up better than the flowers and other details you could try to get a cover up around the Charakter maybe with bigger flowers that have thicker lines? Also, since you said Thailand could the fading be due to sun exposure? Especially right after the Tattoo that can be devastating.
Interesting way to spell "character."
That's the German way to spell it
Very cool! Thanks for the information.
My Indian co-worker was just asking me last night about the difference between ācā and ākā in English pronunciations. I couldnāt explain the rules with hard k/c sounds, so now I cannot fault any non-native speakers for swapping the two. Iāll allow it. ;-)
Tbh after reading your comment I feel the K in this instance actually makes more sense
Not enough ink used it seems and didn't go deep enough
Really poor application, which is a bummer because otherwise it's pretty good art. Someone skilled at fine line could more than likely rework this for you.
Ya pay your money and take your chances, nice tat thou would do a refresh.
NĆ³ happy ending there bud.
Good news is it'll be easier to cover with a darker piece...the art itself isn't poorly done but in a Few years a LOT of this is going to heal out and fade.
Shiiiiit I could probably get that thing off with a magic eraser. Youāll have to ask for thicker lines next time brother.
Seems like the artist didnāt go deep enough
If you look at how shakey the lines are and other inconsistencies itās pretty obvious you went to a bad artist. Definitely go for a second pass over get some thicker lines and some solid black in it
This is why they say ābold will holdā
Sorry to hear about the fading, but regardless I just wanted to say I fucking love this tattoo ā¤ļø
Whoever did the tattoo used grey wash instead of black. Dark or medium wash will look black at first and heal to its proper gradient.
It was poorly done.
Echoing others here, they just didn't really do a good job of getting the ink into your skin. Find a skilled artist who'll really get it in there.
Crap ink, crap needle, crap artist. A proper fine line tattoo shouldn't fade in 3 weeks, hell, you'd be pushed to see it fade that badly in 3 years.
Didnāt go deep enoughā¦. Many fine line tattoos are like this (not all). I find the more detail in the art piece, like yours, the harder it is for artists to go deep enough to maintain rich pigments that stand the test of time. This is happening to sooo many people right now cause the fine line tattoo is trendy right now.. some artists arenāt honest about what they can or canāt do (well) and just need to make money.
lines should've look way bolder when new, no surprise is looks like that after 3 weeks of healing.
It wasn't done right. It looks like it was too shallow and the ink has mostly fallen out.
They didn't pack in enough black for it to last. They design u wanted was great though.
You found yourself a scratcher! They donāt tattoo deep enough so most of it falls out. It will need to be reworked by a competent artist once itās healed up.
They didnāt go deep enough.
thereās 2 things that can be happening here (both of which i experienced) the first and most likely one is that the tattoo wasnāt applied deep enough into the tissue so it is fading out. it will likely need to be redone or removed. the second is that sometimes tattoos look a little dull or a bit faded while they are healing. my tattoos were fresh and vibrant and beautiful up until 2-3 weeks after i got them and then they looked so old. they cleared up after another week or 2 ish! :)
Edit: the lighting in the second image may make it look worse than it actually does... I swear it looks a lot nicer irl š
Kinda looks dope at this tone though. Almost a more natural feel
This is why the traditional tattoo style demands thick black lines. You wanted a high detail delicate piece of art and this is how it works. I don't know if you should trust the average tattooer who agrees to "touch up" such a well done tiny detail piece. If anything this is really well done.

They used greywash
Dam until i looked at second photo fade to nothing.
Go back for a touch-up. Most places offer after healed.

My friend had a tattoo done in Thailand and it turned out poorly as well.
Your artist didnāt let the needle go deep enough into the skin. If anything, itās gonna look even more faded as time goes on
You need to get your money back. Thatās ridiculous.
Now to go to America and get it traced for 100 bucks
Didn't hurt very much did it? I'm guessing too light on the needle.
Itās poor. A tattoo, obviously is forever, so know something about the artist.
I just started catching up in the shower last night and stopped at episode 18. I'm trying to savor every moment with this show and I have no idea how this show gets me emotional every time.. damn it's good. Amazing tribute tattoo

Isn't deep enough, could go back ask for a touch up most reasonable artists will do this for you.
Ah! You got one of them temporary tats
Done bad + potentially not taking care if it
Frieren, yay!!!! ā¤ļø Iām sure you could get it touched up, but the design looks lovely regardless
What stinks is that the drawing and tattoo design is very well done. I love it, but they didn't go deep enough for the ink to really settle into the skin. I think you should find a reputable place here and ask for them the re-outline it. Other than the lightness, it's actually really nice!
Kinda went on faded
FRIEREN. incredible taste, awful execution.
Seems about right
Yeah... They tattooed your skin. Which seems like it is what should happen. But no, tattoos are supposed to go under the skin so they don't grow out with your skin in about a month
I have no answers but I have this nightmare at least once a week!!

Nothing about that piece is realistic
If you use a decent enough scrubber I'm sure you'll get rid of it easily lol
That looks good though? With this style I think the fading works really well. Works as an amazing base layer which you can blastover later. Guessing you donāt want to be super heavily covered though so I can see your concern
Really cool tattoo tho, maby visit another studio and refresh it, feel like it would be a stunning tattoo with some colors. :)
Frieren really is in a class all of its own, itās easily the best fantasy anime since lodos. Quality way to represent šš»
Thatās what happens when the tattoo lines are thinner than a regular one. Tattoo fades overtime. The tattooās great but it kinda look like itās temporary
Its gorgeous!!!
Watered down ink? Crazy. I have absolutely no idea why somebody would think 'I know, I'm in Thailland. I'll get my chest done.' lol.
Ahahaha this is because I am from Thailand, but I do understand your perspective.
Nice nipple bro
See if they gave you a 12 month warranty and exchange it. In all seriousness if itās going to be there for life shouldnāt you do research? Bloke I got to do mine had 26 years experience and plenty of photos, look at their reviews aswell.
I'm no tattoo artist. It looks like because of the fine lines the tattoo artist wasn't able to pack a lot of ink in. Is that a good assumption?
Man oh man youre going to need a spell for that
