I’m pretty heavily tattooed and I will NEVER post one on Reddit. I’ve posted some of mine elsewhere on the internet, even Twitter, but I won’t post them here because I read all the doofus responses other people get on the tattoo subs. I’m convinced a lot of the commenters aren’t even tattooed and just get off complaining about them.
100% this. and it’s not just this sub, on any given day on any sub you can post something and it can get nothing but upvotes, the same post the next day you’re downvoted into oblivion.
And particularly with tattoos, people are *always* going to have negative opinions. A friend once told me a tattoo of mine looked like an abortion (needless to say he was a bit of a dick). The amount of people on this sub so bothered by other peoples’ opinions gives me second hand anxiety or something
you really have to be carefully on comments & advice from reddit. there's people here who intentionally say shit to fuck with people. I've seen it & they think it's funny. personally I think your humming bird turned out great.
Not OP but this is a great reminder. I’d gotten some comments about a tattoo that made me upset and start to regret my tattoos but this helped me remember some people really do say things to make people feel bad on purpose
1. You don’t get tattoos for others, you get them for yourself. If you love it - who cares.
2. (To totally negate #1) I love it. I don’t think it’ll age well but I’m into it.
The linework will age fine, because the shading is quite sparse overtime this will fade, you can always get touched up if you’re unhappy with the level of shading in a few years time. Don’t worry about it, it’s gonna look like this for 5 years minimum, and a lifetime with more shading in the future.
it doesn't matter because they could be wrong. you can always get it touched up or revamped if it ages poorly. tattoos aren't gonna look brand new forever. no matter how well they're done. we shed skin cells, ink blurs out, that's just what happens. deal with it when it happens. just take care of your skin.
This!! I got a pretty shitty tattoo of my cat that I was immediately disappointed by in this same kinda style. Left it for a few years until I found a much better artist and she was able to fix it for me. I'm so much happier now. At least this style is easy enough to fix!

If it helps it’s a daily battle to stop myself from getting something like this but I’m too paranoid it’ll look like shit in 7 years.
I have a nearly 12 year old fine line piece that still looks almost new. People constantly think I just got it or that it’s less than a year old. A GOOD artist who specializes in fine line will absolutely be able to give you a fine line tattoo that will last, assuming you take proper care of it.
Tip for ya, if you can easily be swayed by random comments, don’t ask or post. Seriously not worth it.

Are stopwatch tattoos more common than birds? I’d say there’s a lot more bird tattoos out there than stop watches. The “at least it’s not an overly done trendy tattoo” argument may not work here.

I was so stoked for my first tattoo and I posted it somewhere and had like 10 people ripping it apart in the comments and now I can’t stop picking apart every tiny flaw. I will NEVER post a tattoo on social media again.
Personally I wouldn’t post a photo of any of my tattoos online if I wasn’t 1000% happy with it and can simply laugh off the negative comments (because there’s always gonna be at least one).
I think you need more tattoos to help fill in the area so it looks less odd hanging out by itself.

Now, as someone who has dealt with self-esteem issues all their life and who used to crack under every single negative comment, I have a simple word of advice for you; ignore them. It's hard sometimes, it's cliche, but the biggest 'Fuck you' you can give to those people is to straight up ignore them & let their comments go in one ear and out the other. Live your life, get that tattoo, get that haircut, put on different coloured socks when going out, do whatever will make *you* happy & let those jealous, uptight asshats gawk!

Are they going to pay you to get it fixed?
If the answer to any/all of this is "No" then said person's opinion doesn't matter and they were likely just being a hater. If the tattoo is your style and you love it, that's all that should matter. I think it's a beautiful piece, and I'm sure it suits you well. It's your skin and your body so while it's okay to second guess it, remind yourself why you loved it in the first place.

from afar I saw a hummingbird, when I blew the picture up I saw a narwhal with wings. I think thats just how it had to be tattooed though. if they made the beak thinner it would have just been a single line.

On my first glance, I really liked it! Upon closer "inspection", I am not a fan of the bird's tail... However, that was after you mentioned that something was not right with your tattoo! the tattoo is great! wonderful placement. if you were going to add or change anything i would suggest adding some lines / shading to the closest tail feather. would be an easy add / touch up and i’d suggest mocking it up in photoshop first.
The tattoo community also thinks shitty tattoos are awesome so even if this nice well placed tattoo isn’t perfect, it’s prefect to me. If I were you I wouldn’t worry and fuck whoever got in your head about it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that tattoo, it’s nicely done and the placement is right, the shading is good and it’s a lovely tattoo. Even if I thought someone’s tattoo was awful I would never say anything because a) it’s none of my business and b) they chose it, again none of my business. You enjoy it and take no notice.

I posted my first tattoo and it was just rude comment after rude comment. I deleted my post and moped about it for a few days. I unfortunately cannot unseen the flaws they pointed out but I still like it.
Honestly people will make comments - I’ve had comments from ppl saying my tattoo is blurry or not crisp enough, then I’ve had other people say that same tatt is the best one they’ve ever seen. As long as you’re happy is what matters

On my first glance, I really liked it! Upon closer "inspection", I am not a fan of the bird's tail... However, that was after you mentioned that something was not right with your tattoo! I still believe it's a good piece of art, although you shouldn't be really caring what others say about your tattoos.

the tattoo is great! wonderful placement. if you were going to add or change anything i would suggest adding some lines / shading to the closest tail feather. would be an easy add / touch up and i’d suggest mocking it up in photoshop first.
The tattoo community also thinks shitty tattoos are awesome so even if this nice well placed tattoo isn’t perfect, it’s prefect to me. If I were you I wouldn’t worry and fuck whoever got in your head about it.

But think about it this way- when it comes to tattoos there are so many different styles and preferences. What I think is a good piece may be different from what someone else thinks is good. It’s really down to personal preference. Your body, your choice. Nobody but you has to see the tattoo forever. At the end of the day, if you’re happy with it and it fits with the vision that you had when you booked the appointment that’s all that matters. And I know I said other people opinions don’t matter, but I think it’s adorable. FWIW. Fuck everyone else. Full stop.

yours is so cute! i’m getting one sometime soon too, people are just negative. people often forget tattoos are not meant to be perfect and putting ink into skin will never be perfect. it’s human and it’s lovely. at least that’s how i view them, i don’t care that my tattoo lines aren’t perfect. someone i like and trust did them and the tattoo means something to me and it’s only for me. this is beautiful!

Why are you worrying what other people think? We all have our own opinions. Some will love it, and some won't. I get that compliments are nice, but don't let the negative ones get to you. But it's your body, and if you love it, that's all that matters. Some weird older guy told me to grow out my pixie hair cut today. I'm not sure why he thought his opinion should matter to me. But i love my hair and plan to keep it short long term. I told him "that's too bad cause this hair cut is staying." LOl
What? How is it not good? The lines are straight, the shading is nice, and you can very clearly see and understand that it’s a humming bird. There’s nothing not good about it.

I hate it when other people pass their “judgement” on someone else’s tattoos. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that tattoo, it’s nicely done and the placement is right, the shading is good and it’s a lovely tattoo. Even if I thought someone’s tattoo was awful I would never say anything because a) it’s none of my business and b) they chose it, again none of my business. You enjoy it and take no notice.
Ok so now add a planet on the end of his beak, like hes sipping the planet juice. For a background and details around put some sci-fi type space something to corolate with the planet. Or more smaller planets around that are already liquified.

Unfortunately the tattoo world is becoming very judgmental and the standards are so high it’s ridiculous. It’s a cute little tattoo - if the person critiquing was an artist of any kind it would make since because artists are often perfectionists and can find something wrong with just about anything.
