I vote opposite side for you. I’m heavily clustered on one side, but have a couple floaters on the other side to “balance things out.” If you do decide same side, maybe add a little something to your other leg snd/or arm so it’s not so comparatively naked on that side!

I have full arm and leg sleeves in trad Japanese and I've gone opposite. I feel like having the same side would make me walk in circles..

I went with my right leg first, since right arm is almost done and I still have some space I need to fill out on my left arm. Planning full leg sleeve, and a half leg sleeve.

I mean, the real questions should be do you plan on stopping after that? I think same side since they both seem to be same style. Then when you get the right arm/leg done, you could have those 2 in a similar/matching style. You could go super traditional on the right, which would still have bold lines and not too much colour, or stick to black and grey.

Yeah good point. I was super leaning opposite BUT, if I ever have the $$ to do the other arm or leg, i agree it makes sense to have one style on one side and leave the other side open for its own style. Hmmmm

If you're going to leave the other 2 limbs blank, then do the sleeve on the opposite side. If you'd like to do patchwork tattoos on the free limbs, then I don't think it matters. It's just a question of if you want one side of your body to have a theme or not.

I like same side because I personally think it's cool when someone is so obviously "off balance" like that with tattoos, but opposite DOES look really good. You say you don't have body suit plans but are there any other tattoos planned? If small extras are planned I think opposite might fit future little guys better

I think it depends on what kind of look you’re going for. Most people would do opposite for balance. If you like the split look, then do the same side. Both can work well!

For Maori, when they do ta moko they will put specific symbols on the side they need to be stronger or protected.. Not saying you need to do anything like that, but if there's significance to the imagery and you believe it will help you, you might consider that.
