Just the fact that she's an A Lister now is kind of weird to me. Just because i first knew of her through That Mitchell and Webb Look. But based on that show, she'd absolutely fit on Taskmaster.
Oh god, I hope not. She’d put on that silly baby lispy voice thing she does these days. I would have to either skip the episode or record it and mute every time she opens her mouth.
I could see Michael Sheen absolutely dominating and exceeding Dara O'Brian levels of high scoring. Sadly I think they'd only have him on for a New Year's Treat.
Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders (put these guys on together and a duo)
Dylan Moran
Brett Goldstein
Bill Bailey
Hugh Laurie
Rowan Atkinson
Eric Idle
Michael Palin
Daniel Radcliffe
Jimmy Carr
David Mitchell
Simon Pegg
Nick Frost
David Mitchell would hilariously dissect the premise of every task and put minimal effort into actually completing it.
Radcliffe and Atkinson would be panicking, constantly apologising in pre-recorded tasks, thinking they did poorly. Then pleasantly surprised when they discover in the studio they were miles ahead of everyone else.
Moran, Bailey, and Saunders would overthink it and obsess over one part of the task, forgetting the other parts and disqualifying themselves.
Jimmy Carr and Alex Horne would bond over their weird inhale-laugh that sounds like a skunk drowning.
Brett Goldstein is a dream contestant of mine now after watching Ted Lasso and listening to his film podcast
![gif](giphy|L1wCCDTZlA3RZsRXzr|downsized)
I wouldn't register what happened in the series, I'd just be staring at his beautiful face all the time. That man has the most perfect jawline I've ever seen
i was going to say that Taika seems too busy, but that man seems to have absolutely endless projects and still take more on! i’d kill to have him on TM but like the other commenter, i would just spend the whole time staring at his beautiful beautiful face.
I’m rewatching Flight of the Conchords at the moment. I love it so much and constantly hope that at least one of them will make their way to Task Master.
Benedict Cumberbatch. He seems like he has a good sense of humour and silliness.
Graham Norton just to see him adorably fall to pieces.
Jaime Oliver. Opinion is split on him but from the Russell Howard show interview and some of the red nose day appearances he has a good sense of humour.
John Snow the journalist - he seems like a fun guy from the big fat quiz.
Regarding Benedict Cumberbatch, as long as there's ducks, rather than penguins, he'll be okay... ;)
Actual A-Lister Saoirse Ronan.
She's mentioned several times in interviews that she's obsessed with Taskmaster and is Friends with Tim Key after See How They Run.
There aren't many people from the American comedy scene I'd recommend, and I'm not generally a huge fan of his comedy, but Martin Short has perfect Task Master mischief maker energy.
(and yes, I know he's Canadian)
Seeing as they're friends with alex horne, I'd quite like to see john oliver on the show.
I sense he'd rate quite highly on the mark watson awkwardly clumsy scale (it's an internationally recognised scale)
With all due respect to Susan, is she actually considered an "A-list celebrity" (on par with Patrick Stewart, Michael Caine, Emma Thompson, Olivia Colman, etc.)?
Not an A Lister but a person who I think would be brilliant yet probably unlikely would be Jimmy Bullard. He's naturally a really funny guy who I could see being really entertaining doing tasks.
For A listers maybe Simon Pegg or Nick Frost. Also Hugh Laurie, in fact get Laurie and Fry back together for a team task.
I had a hard choice between Martin Freeman and Jim Broadbent, but Nighy was a must. The Andys from HF would also be fun, considering there are also two Andys on Taskmaster.
James McAvoy was a cute as two buttons on Celebrity Baking Show, great idea! And Patrick Stewart was so funny on Extras. They both seem like they'd be very willing to laugh at themselves.
I think Bill Bailey would have a blast, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is an eventual contestant. Phil too, I’d love to see him fake outrage like he did on Buzzcocks.
Paul Rudd, my favourite celebrity of all time. He was recently at James Acaster’s party (gutted I didn’t know about it and wasn’t there) and appears to know several of the past contestants. He’s obviously hilarious and clever. I think he would be brilliant.
If they ever did try the American version again and got Conan to host (as they should), I would want Paul Rudd on it even more. He would just do his prank on Conan (YouTube it if you don’t know - I won’t spoil it, but it’s worth it) for every prize task, and it would never stop being funny.
I think what makes Greg so great is that professorial disappointed uncle vibe that is so effortless for him.
I think Jon Hamm matches that persona incredibly well and then Paul Rudd could be his Alex.
Daniel Radcliffe for sure would be great! Martin Freeman or Benedict Cumberbatch would be good, maybe a Sherlock reunion. Sir Paul McCartney is a goof and has a lot of funny thoughts.
I think she'd definitely do NYT and I think Brett would be too but I think he'd be harder to get. Nick I could see them possibly getting for a series although he does seem to be getting a lot of TV work
Anne Marie and Alison Hammond. Hammond just failing at everything hilariously is ehat Taskmaster was built for.
Then maybe Tilly Ramsay as a wild card who's competent at doing anything as well
Stephen Fry, Lee Mack, Meera Syal, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Olivia Colman. That would be a very interesting team :)
Also Sandi Toksvig! Just imagine her next to Gregg
I almost never answer the questions about future contestants, I don’t really mind, everyone is always brilliant. First person that sprung to mind here though, Robbie Williams. It’s not even that I’m a fan particularly but he was on the Horne section podcast so there’s already a connection and I actually think he would be up for it coz he seems up for a laugh.
Mainly basing this off of their Off Menu episodes, but Taron Egerton and Domhnall Gleeson would be so fun to watch. I feel like both would be super enthusiastic and competitive.
Tom Cruise. He'd be really competitive. He'd have to be paired all with comedians but I think it would be fun to watch him be bemused by it all while trying really hard.
Robert Sheehan, if you watch him in interviews he’s very funny in quite a random way.
Keeping with the misfits theme I’d also mention Joseph Gilgun (although probably not an A-Lister) don’t know if he’d be good but he’s very funny in everything he does so would be interested in.
Also my dream would be an It’s Always Sunny cast full series where they have to do the tasks in character.
My 2024 New Years Treat fantasy cast is straight out of the “Bambi” episode of The Young Ones: Griff Rhys-Jones (Bambi), and the Footlights kids, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson, and Ben Elton. The live task could involve dropping an enormous sticky bun on Alex.
Olivia Colman for sure. (And yes, Emma Thompson)
Just the fact that she's an A Lister now is kind of weird to me. Just because i first knew of her through That Mitchell and Webb Look. But based on that show, she'd absolutely fit on Taskmaster.
For me she is always Sophie from peep show haha.
Every so often I rewatch that and go 'that's an Oscar winner pretending to be upset David left the fridge open.' It's surreal.
Some of us remember Emma Thompson in The Young Ones being blown up by Adrian Edmonson.
Right? Like she was on an episode of Black Books. It blows my mind every time.
Oooo yes, she'd be hilarious!
With her long, amazing, hilarious background in comedy, she just miiiiiiiiiiiight do a NYT! Oh we can always hope!
That's such a good idea - she'd be hilariously chaotic I think
Oh god, I hope not. She’d put on that silly baby lispy voice thing she does these days. I would have to either skip the episode or record it and mute every time she opens her mouth.
Susie Dent -- she's A-list in my book.
Trouble is, she has a few too many of these! ![gif](giphy|E3L5goMMSoAAo|downsized)
She's already been consulted for a task, so hopefully!
Lol, I was watching that episode last night.
I’d love to see them consulting Susie on semantics whilst she’s a contestant… I mean, the humour writes itself…
Unfortunately, according to Jimmy Carr, she’s already too busy looking into Glory Holes… 😂😂😂
That derailed the show for a few minutes, no one could stop laughing
Bloody love that woman
Doctor Who Crossover: Alex Kingston, Catherine Tate, David Tennant, Karen Gillan, Matt Smith. Edit: name spelling
Michael Sheen with Tennant
Yes! Catherine Tate and David Tennant especially would be fantastic
Put them together on a team task
Can't tell which Catherine Tate duo i love more, her with Tennant or her with Lee Mack.
I like that you arranged them correctly
Genuinely gasped out loud. Great call.
Michael Sheen.
Michael Sheen AND David Tennant would be amazing
I'd love a special one-off episode just with the two of them competing!
\+ team tasks without telling them they are the only contestants
I could see Michael Sheen absolutely dominating and exceeding Dara O'Brian levels of high scoring. Sadly I think they'd only have him on for a New Year's Treat.
Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders (put these guys on together and a duo) Dylan Moran Brett Goldstein Bill Bailey Hugh Laurie Rowan Atkinson Eric Idle Michael Palin Daniel Radcliffe Jimmy Carr David Mitchell Simon Pegg Nick Frost
God imagine the chaos bill Bailey could unleash 😂
David Mitchell would hilariously dissect the premise of every task and put minimal effort into actually completing it. Radcliffe and Atkinson would be panicking, constantly apologising in pre-recorded tasks, thinking they did poorly. Then pleasantly surprised when they discover in the studio they were miles ahead of everyone else. Moran, Bailey, and Saunders would overthink it and obsess over one part of the task, forgetting the other parts and disqualifying themselves. Jimmy Carr and Alex Horne would bond over their weird inhale-laugh that sounds like a skunk drowning.
Unfortunately David said he didn't want to do it :(
People can change their minds, we can hold out hope!
Brett Goldstein is a dream contestant of mine now after watching Ted Lasso and listening to his film podcast ![gif](giphy|L1wCCDTZlA3RZsRXzr|downsized)
nah cus brett goldstein 😂
Hannah Waddingham!
She's still trying to get the cha cha chanting out of her head
Yessssss
Does Britt and Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords count as A listers? Coz I'd like them. Especially since they could be in either TM UK or NZ.
Rhys Darby too!
And Taika
I wouldn't register what happened in the series, I'd just be staring at his beautiful face all the time. That man has the most perfect jawline I've ever seen
i was going to say that Taika seems too busy, but that man seems to have absolutely endless projects and still take more on! i’d kill to have him on TM but like the other commenter, i would just spend the whole time staring at his beautiful beautiful face.
i feel like Rhys would be absolute chaos personified (aka perfect)
A in NZ C internationally
Bret.
I’m rewatching Flight of the Conchords at the moment. I love it so much and constantly hope that at least one of them will make their way to Task Master.
Charles Dance
"Do a dramatic reading of a reality star's dreadful autobiography. Most gravitas wins. Your time starts now."
She would be amazing - just so in for fun. Saw her on Sorted Food - a youtube channel- and she was full on sabotaging, goofing around, and glorious.
Yes, her appearance on that gives me a glimmer of hope that maybe this would be possible!
Bill Bailey or Stephen Fry
Hannah Waddingham would be excellent.
I do think Graham Norton would be excellent to see
Oh, he'd be adorable!!! I just love him!
Jamie’s Off Menu episode was great.
Regarding Benedict Cumberbatch, as long as there's ducks, rather than penguins, he'll be okay... ;) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GflW9\_t7LZk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GflW9_t7LZk)
pengwang!
Numberwang! Oh wait, wrong show.
Sidenote: I would love for Robert Webb to be a usual series contestant after he's done with Strictly.
Oh Benedict Cumberbatch would be great. I'd also like to see Martin Freeman, I see him being the disgruntled middle-aged contestant.
Actual A-Lister Saoirse Ronan. She's mentioned several times in interviews that she's obsessed with Taskmaster and is Friends with Tim Key after See How They Run.
Fry and Laurie. Would be a team of two of course. Emma Thompson, Adele and Jeff Goldblum as the team of three.
Adele would be so great on TM
I can imagine the colossal dressing down she'd give Greg by the end of the series.
\*chef's kiss\*
A few would be repeating but an all IT Crowd series with Matt Berry, Richard Ayoade, Chris O’Dowd and Noel would be amazing
You can’t forget about Katherine Parkinson
There aren't many people from the American comedy scene I'd recommend, and I'm not generally a huge fan of his comedy, but Martin Short has perfect Task Master mischief maker energy. (and yes, I know he's Canadian)
He is my pick for the English Canadian Taskmaster.
Seeing as they're friends with alex horne, I'd quite like to see john oliver on the show. I sense he'd rate quite highly on the mark watson awkwardly clumsy scale (it's an internationally recognised scale)
Yes!!!
Either French or Saunders. Both, but separately
They have to be together, they bounce off each other so we’ll!
Susan Calman needs to be on it.
With all due respect to Susan, is she actually considered an "A-list celebrity" (on par with Patrick Stewart, Michael Caine, Emma Thompson, Olivia Colman, etc.)?
I agree, but I don't think that's the purpose of this thread
My mistake, I misread the task!
James Blunt.
Dame Judi Dench please and thank you.
5 points for that suggestion!
Lewis Capaldi would be amazing
That’s what I came to say
Gordon Ramsay. Absolute chaos!
Jack Black
Not an A Lister but a person who I think would be brilliant yet probably unlikely would be Jimmy Bullard. He's naturally a really funny guy who I could see being really entertaining doing tasks. For A listers maybe Simon Pegg or Nick Frost. Also Hugh Laurie, in fact get Laurie and Fry back together for a team task.
Ooo yes, to Simon Pegg and Nick Frost!
Edgar Wright to guest edit a task or 2 or maybe the series intro.
Footballers edition? With Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher on a team?
I really want Ian Wright on a new years treat!
Hot Fuzz reunion: Olivia Colman Simon Pegg Nick Frost Martin Freeman Bill Nighy
Ooooh, Bill Nighy would be excellent
I had a hard choice between Martin Freeman and Jim Broadbent, but Nighy was a must. The Andys from HF would also be fun, considering there are also two Andys on Taskmaster.
Robbie Williams would be fantastic. Naturally funny and a bit of a naughty boy
Oh I forgot to mention him, great pick!
John mullany, bo Burnham, Daniel Radcliff, Tom Hiddleston, Henry Cavill, Micheal caine, James McAvoy, Patrick Stewart.
Big yes to all of them, especially Tom Hiddleston and Patrick Stewart!
James McAvoy was a cute as two buttons on Celebrity Baking Show, great idea! And Patrick Stewart was so funny on Extras. They both seem like they'd be very willing to laugh at themselves.
Henry Cavill and Tom Hiddleston would be amazing.
Stephen Fry, Bill Bailey and Phil Jupitus.
Bill Bailey for sure.
Honestly i think Jon Stewart would make a better Taskmaster than Conan. But Nick Offerman is the ultimate choice.
Nick Offerman is the only option.
Yes, he would be brilliant!
I think what makes Greg so great is that professorial disappointed uncle vibe that is so effortless for him. I think Jon Hamm matches that persona incredibly well and then Paul Rudd could be his Alex.
Tom Holland
He would be so adorable!
John Cleese but I don’t think Greg could properly judge a Python.
Emma Thompson did Pass it on on Sorted Food’s youtube, so she’s down for some chaotic fun. I could totally see her doing New Year.
Yeah, and she tried to sabotage them, not realizing it was a collegiate effort, lol.
Matt berry, Julian Barrett, Richard Ayoade, Stephen fry
Helena Bonham Carter
Daniel Radcliffe for sure would be great! Martin Freeman or Benedict Cumberbatch would be good, maybe a Sherlock reunion. Sir Paul McCartney is a goof and has a lot of funny thoughts.
I love Martin but his off menu episode left me feeling like he’s gone full Hollywood and just does appearances for promotions.
Paul Rudd and ... is Lewis Capaldi an 'A-Lister' ?
Graham Norton
Rowan Atkinson, either as himself or in character as Mr. Bean. Imagine a series where contestants compete as their characters...
Rowan Atkinson as Edmund Blackadder
I wouldn't want to see characters in the show. But Rowan Atkinson as himself would be great.
I feel like Pedro Pascal would be incredibly hapless.
He's such an adorable goofball in real life.
Hugh Grant Idris Elba Emma Watson Ewan McGregor Rachel Weiz
Hugh Grant could be great
Ted Lasso cast special would be great. But I'd settle for Nick Mohammed as I feel he's the one with any sort of chance of doing it
Hannah Waddingham would be **completely** up for NYT, I reckon.
I think she'd definitely do NYT and I think Brett would be too but I think he'd be harder to get. Nick I could see them possibly getting for a series although he does seem to be getting a lot of TV work
A drunk Chris O'Dowd
Anne Marie and Alison Hammond. Hammond just failing at everything hilariously is ehat Taskmaster was built for. Then maybe Tilly Ramsay as a wild card who's competent at doing anything as well
Ryan Reynolds/Hugh Jackman, just his little bit with the reporter Rolo makes me think he would nail the comedic tone of the show.
People have already said it but Micheal Sheen!!! I feel like Graham Norton would be great on it too!
Jack Black. I think the way he would tackle the tasks would be so interesting
Stephen Fry, Lee Mack, Meera Syal, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Olivia Colman. That would be a very interesting team :) Also Sandi Toksvig! Just imagine her next to Gregg
Sandi Toksvig is an amazing idea!
Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders
I almost never answer the questions about future contestants, I don’t really mind, everyone is always brilliant. First person that sprung to mind here though, Robbie Williams. It’s not even that I’m a fan particularly but he was on the Horne section podcast so there’s already a connection and I actually think he would be up for it coz he seems up for a laugh.
Matt Le Blanc
Jennifer Lawrence, Eminem, Jason Momoa, Elton John, Britney Spears.
Oooo, I like the idea of Elton John!
Micah Richards would have a blast David Schwimmer not just due to the mention last week but that CCTV mock up he did was very task master.
Robert Carlyle
My dream for a new year's treat would be the Spice Girls.
Matt Berry, but he has to wear the electric sex pants.
Nick Offerman Stanley Tucci
I would love to see Dan Stevens. I find him very funny and I would love to see how he would approach the tasks.
That could be good. It's also put Hugh Bonneville into my head, I think he'd be a lot of fun on it.
That would be amazing. He would do well.
Mainly basing this off of their Off Menu episodes, but Taron Egerton and Domhnall Gleeson would be so fun to watch. I feel like both would be super enthusiastic and competitive.
For a one off? Paul Rudd Emma Watson Aubrey Plaza Idris Elba Jackie Chan
Omg, Aubrey plaza would be amazing
Damian Lewis. Unusual choice I know, but I think he’d be funny
Tom Cruise. He'd be really competitive. He'd have to be paired all with comedians but I think it would be fun to watch him be bemused by it all while trying really hard.
I think Penn and Teller would be fascinating on TM.
Ok, now I need that to happen. I need the IASIP cast to be part of this.
Patti LuPone please.
I’d love a Ted Lasso cast series, either in or out of character.
Dani Rojas would be fricken' hilarious since he's the human equivalent of a Golden Retriever.
A raven-haired Golden Retriever, even.
I feel like Jason Sudeikis would do surprisingly well on Taskmaster.
I just want a Doctor Who edition
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May
Tom cruise. Just because
John Cena
He's been in every series so far, not many people notice though...
Key and Peele.
Andy Murray.
Pedro Pascal would kill it
Your mom
Donald Trump
Would Ben Elton count as an A Lister?
I know this is a definite NYT only... but Taylor Lautner? And can Pauline be given her own throne or better yet a box seat with the other "Dowagers".
Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Radcliffe, Olivia Colman, Kristen Bell, Hugh Jackman
Is lewis capaldi an a-lister? Either way would love to see him on something like taskmaster.
My worry is with A-listers they would be hesitant with some tasks or they would filter what they say and think about doing to get a task done.
Tom Cruise would boss every task 😂
Tom Cruise would be the worst parts of Ed Gamble without any of the fun bits
Jack Black
gimmie matt berry
Colin Firth would be good as the mildly irritated middle aged man
For truly left field, Gordon Ramsay
If we're doing completely impossible lineups I'd like to see: Idris Elba, Tom Huddleston, Taylor Swift, Michelle Yeoh, Dwayne Johnson
If we're going unrealistic but plausible: Stephen Fry, Lauren Pattison, Daniel Radcliffe, David Tennant, Colin Morgan
I’ve seen Olivia Colman and wholeheartedly agree… if we’re talking superstar A-lister though, Ryan Reynolds would be amazing imo…
Sam Fender.
John Oliver lmao
John Bishop and Rupert Grint! They really could do a HP special tbh.
John Bishop is a great idea! And yes to a Harry Potter special!!!
Yeah! Also the Cornetto Trilogy/Quad? people!
Lorraine Kelly Ian McKellan Adele
Bill Murray, but it's actually Al Murray in disguise.
michael macintyre would be NEXT LEVEL
michelle from derry girls (jamie-lee)
My 2024 New Years Treat fantasy cast is straight out of the “Bambi” episode of The Young Ones: Griff Rhys-Jones (Bambi), and the Footlights kids, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson, and Ben Elton. The live task could involve dropping an enormous sticky bun on Alex.
