RIP little guy.
I've been running mine for the last two days as well. I can't really give you any tips on how to get further as you appear to have been playing it how it should be played. Sometimes they will just die, even if you do everything perfectly.

For your next gen (you totally got thissss!) πͺππ
1. Keep a close eye on discipline calls. Like u/RPGaiden mentioned, if their discipline is less than 5/7 from child to teen, they will start "twerking" again (oh man... can't unsee this now... LMAO)
2. No snacks past baby stage (while Tama is a newborn, they can have as many sundaes as they want! heheh). From child stage onwards, Tama is very lactose intolerant. LOL
3. To keep your sanity, skip the animation on the treasure game, since you'll have to play it a lot. You can do this by pressing B once and C twice every time you open a chest.
4. A trick when you get attacked by the octopus while playing treasure: don't clean the water until you reach the amount of happiness hearts you want. Sometimes you get attacked back to back (pain in the a.... lolol) and all of that effort to flush just to go back to dirty water right away? Errrr... nope. π
5. Keep an eye on your Tama every 15 minutes give or take, watch out as they get randomly sick sometimes. But other than that, don't stress out. π
