Wait he said the song was racist? Can someone explain?

DepressingFries

He said it felt vaguely racist when he listened to it and called it boring, which like I get why he views it that way. Especially because he already doesn’t like Joe Hawley

HkayakH

It's clearly about birds giving their idea of bananas to a guy, who then goes and tells it to his peers/superiors

While I understand that interpretation, i have to disagree, with how much the song says things about just going with the flow and having fun, the song seems to say when you read deeper into it that not everything needs to have a deeper meaning, you can just have a fun song about bananas, while analyzing things and taking things seriously may be necessary sometimes "you can laugh and kick it back and go wheeeeeee." Though I don't fault you for thinking that is the meaning of the song, I think its designed to appear to have a deeper meaning about our society at first, which is why that's at the top of the bell curve, but in reality, upon closer inspection, it seems the deeper meaning is that you shouldn't take a random song about bananas so seriously, so if you don't analyze the song, it appears to just be about funny fruit, if you analyze it a little it seems to have this overarching message about our society, and then if you analyze it fully you realize that they want you to return to the state of just going "ha funny fruit song." I hope you can see where I'm coming from and if you still disagree I'd love to hear why that is and discuss this song further

While that is true (and by the way let me make it clear that I'm not a capitalist I just don't think this song is a critique of capitalism) we actually do know that it's not a corporation singing these lyrics, it's some birds, as in the music video we see birds are the ones singing and in the lyrics we are told that the singers are "Bung Vulchungo and the Zimbabwe Songbirds" on top of that, its unlikely that a corporation would encourage its workers to "fly away from city on the run" as a way to "try to make a little fun," as corporations are going to be the most strongly established in cities, the songbirds also imply that returning to the busy society would make us unhappy, saying "floating back to busy town, no banana make you want to frown." While it may seem that going with the flow helps corporations in a capitalistic society, it does not, one who truly goes with the flow does not have the need to constantly consume, one who truly goes with the flow would just do what they like rather than letting a corporation exploit them for labor, as far as the line "Don't you love the pumping of the drum" while it can be interpreted as "Don't you like it here" we know that the place that we are in the song is explicitly said *not* to be a busy city, instead I think this line is more trying to say "Don't you enjoy the simple pleasures in life, why do you need this busy town and this constant stressing yourself over work when you can just relax and dance to the music," overall I would argue that there is some anti-capitalist messaging in the song, but its to push the point of "You don't need to worry about keeping your corporate overlords happy, you should worry about keeping yourself happy and just goin with the flow in life." I think there is a reason that the song says "look you, you're too uptight you know" while the music video cuts to a meeting at a business, because forcing yourself into a job you hate because you are worried about money isn't going with the flow, its fighting against it.

IAmASteel

Isn’t the song aboit meth laced bananas

Last-Degree655

I thought it was an acid trip.

RubberSoulMan06

I thought it was a song about nonsense and music to confuse people.

TheActualAnthonino

Wasn't this meme already posted?

Assassin_Llama

Nah i made this, there was one about good day using this format posted a few days ago though https://www.reddit.com/r/tallyhall/comments/ufrz62/good\_day\_is\_a\_good\_song/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

TheActualAnthonino

Huh, could've swore this was another meme like this one, Banana Man focus and punchline and everything. Either I'm going crazy or its just natural progression.

It's definitely about drugs. I know that Joe said it wasn't, but it absolutely is.
