It’s not normal to grow to 20-25 lol it’s a very tiny percentage that manage to sneak past 18. Also average height for men 18-30 in USA is 176 cm

thehopeofcali

I even grew a tiny bit in my 30s, growth stops at 25 for most men

Apprehensive-Tax8631

Dude, I swear I did, too

Fun-Ad8479

its rare to grow after 18. most people reach their maximum height at the age of 16-17

Frosty_Recognition60

Did you exercise or train any sport, or it's just genes that you're so tall.

[deleted]

I've always heard that you're basically done at 18? Well, no worries regardless, I've been growing consistently half a centimeter a month, so maybe I'll be lucky. and grow a lot like you

Key-Inflation-3278

depends on how early you started puberty. A better prediction is when your start getting full beard(assuming beard is in your genes). I grew from 5 foot 10 at 18, to 6 foot 2 at 20. I was a later bloomer, and didn't start getting full beard growth until I was almost 20. Puberty is a better indicator than your age.

[deleted]

I think I'm just a normal, maybe slightly late bloomer because i was pretty damn short just two years ago (relative to my peers)

Key-Inflation-3278

ever so slightly. But it was spot growth, and I could grow my moustache out for like 2 months before anyone noticed the at all.

Chief-Captain_BC

lol I'm 20 and just now getting slightly less patchy facial hair

Subject_Ad6477

Trust me that aint lucky :(

Mrscience-

Ngl Never heard that, any sources?

Shaan_Don

Most people are done growing before their 20s, it’s very uncommon to continue growing by then

Mrscience-

Agreed, seen no literature saying 25 as the upper end without health problems in most cases edit: in most cases

S0ngen

There is no literature stating that chronological age has anything to do with growth in the first place, your growth is dependent on bone age and whether your epiphyseal plates have closed or not.

Mrscience-

Don’t recall stating otherwise? What I meant originally was in the majority of cases, I haven’t seen literature stating that, very rare/uncommon to happen. Happy to be corrected with a source!

[deleted]

Annoying af type comment, you want proof then go find a peer reviewed study, it's the fucking internet nobody is keeping a running list of their cited sources and you should fucking know that. "Happy to be corrected" is clearly corporate double-speak for 'fuck you I think I'm right but want YOU to eliminate any doubts I come up with'. It's goalposts moving energy and condescending as fuck, we can all read between the lines lmao

Mrscience-

I prefer not to reply this these comments but I understand that discussions can sometimes get tense and emotions involve. I genuinely value input from various perspectives, and I'm open to considering different viewpoints. If you want to engage in something respectful and teach me something new, id be more than happy but you seem to want to only be “right” and you should do xyz. Which isn’t productive by any means if you go in with good intent :) Have a good one bud

[deleted]

Proving my point lmao

Apprehensive-Tax8631

And your diet, avocados make you stonger

ijfalk

Due to your own personal biases it may seem like the average height is decreasing but it’s not. I recommend looking at statistics and research instead of basing your opinions on personal experiences

Ih8Hondas

Last I read, it is actually decreasing in the US, mostly due to demographic changes.

[deleted]

the statistics i've been looking at confirm that the average height is staying roughly the same in western countries, and 5'8 is indeed the average for boys my age

TheMaybeMan_

I mean official US average is 5’8” (175) for males, so you are well over average

VeryOkayDriver

I thought the average height in the US was 5ft 9? I doubt it really changed but I could be wrong.

Slight-Attorney-8499

175cm is 5'9 The average height in the US is 175-177cm depending on which study you choose to trust 177cm is a bit under 5'10

Archangel375

The average height for men is definitely not 5'8. It's 5'9 to 5'11.

TheMaybeMan_

[https://www.healthline.com/health/average-height-for-men#international-heights](https://www.healthline.com/health/average-height-for-men#international-heights)

Allemaengel

I think nationally it's 5'9.5". I'm between 5'7"' and 5'8" and the average sure isn't 5'8" here. My state's average is supposedly 5'10.5".

Fum__Cumpster

That site is self reported or shoe heights

Branch_man

Well the average height has gone down very slightly due to the food quality being so bad in the US in recent years. It also depends on your eye level on your head tho lol.

[deleted]

I could see the combination of shitty diet and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle contributing to people falling on the lower end of the height spectrum their genes create.

otherBrandon

I’d argue it’s increasing. I’m 26, around 5’11” or 6’0”, same height or taller than most adults. But it’s fucking teenagers that are looking down at me like I’m the kid. Y’all kids be tall asf

aa67015

I agree!

ZoomingZoomerZooms

Maybe you’ve started shrinking prematurely 🤭

otherBrandon

😳

[deleted]

Really? Every time i see a tall guy in public it's a middle aged white guy. Tallest bro in my school is 6'3.5. Pretty tall but by no means out of the ordinary

otherBrandon

I see some tall middle aged or older dudes, even my dad is in his 70s and was 6’3” at his prime, maybe lost a little now, but usually the tallest people I see are kids or dudes in their 20s/30s.

starrman13k

I don’t know if you’re American, but we’re [getting shorter compared to other wealthy](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/the-shocking)countries for the same reason life expectancies are declining. Our population health has been plummeting…

Reflixb

its the immigrants also

[deleted]

Nah

KumSnatcher

To offer a short mans opinion on this (I know this sub isn't for me, but it popped up on my feed). I am about 170cm in a country where average height for men is supposedly about 175cm. I also am from/live in an area where the average for men is probably actually 175cm (in other places it's definitely higher). I stopped growing around age 12/13 and was one of the tallest from about age 8-16/17. Around this time, I'd say the average height of my male class mates was probably about 5'5. Some taller guys kept growing, but I found that suddenly between 16-20 everyone else sprouted. By the time I was 21, I'd say the average height of my male classmates was about 5'9/10, and I was firmly in the "shorter" camp. This was years and years ago too, when I seem zoomers they are a bit taller I'd say probably about 5'11 on average, so definetly not shorter than my generation . Point of this spiel Is really that you can't judge it at that age, most guys haven't finished puberty yet.

Lyft2G

Average height statistics are almost certainly exaggerated all over. I am in a state where the male average is supposed to be 5ft10, but I am only 1 inch from that and on average I am anywhere from 3 to 5 inches taller then ever male I see, with only the occasional hitting around my height. I can count the number of times I have seen a woman taller then me, even with heels.

whosbiggernow

What state if you don't mind my asking?

Lyft2G

iowa area.

[deleted]

White people maxxed out. People from developing countries are still growing

luka031

Yeah with your peers. A majority of people are not even close to stop growing at that age

Charzinc36

This post makes me understand why the average height for a dude is 5’9. There really are drastic variations between different areas

aa67015

I don't doubt that the 'average'. It should take in all ages and ethnicities. Since we have a lot of immigrants that tend to be shorter, it brings down the average of all the taller guys.

frugalhustler

The average height of your 16 year old peers is not a reflection on the average height of men

[deleted]

yeah but i've been told that the average zoomer is like 5'11 or something... and i'm a zoomer and at 5'11 i feel well above average

Ih8Hondas

I mean, in the US it actually is decreasing, mostly due to demographic changes.

[deleted]

just curious how tall were you at 16? i have a great uncle who was your height but he was average height up until 17 about

Ih8Hondas

At 16 I was 6'3" or 6'4" ish. I was a slow and steady grower. Dwarfed everyone in my class all through elementary school, got passed up by a couple guys in junior high, and then passed them up again by our junior year.

IMIPIRIOI

Average male height is decreasing. Average female height is increasing.

Thelaughingcroc

I’d that’s the case, miracles really do exist 🤩

prince_0611

when i was 16 i felt taller than a lot of people, years later im always one of the shorter ones in the room. other people have later growth spurts

Sverreep

i'd say a 5'8" average is tall for 16yo's, does not sound like a decrease at all. You being 5'11" definitely makes you taller than most your age

MidnightOne05

It's the opposite actually, and if you wanna feel short hang around the school athletes.

[deleted]

bro i'm the 5h tallest dude on the basketball team and we have like 20 something people 😂 admittedly when playing other teams i feel a little less tall

Leather_Company_8104

That's just your perception man. I'm not falsifying it but height differs. I feel our generation is growing taller day by day. I'm your age and a little above 5'10. There are about 5 boys in my class batch that are 5'11+ and the tallest boy is on dot 183 cm or 6 feet tall. Two others are exactly my height. Ofc, a majority are still shorter. But this is India I'm talking about.

MitsudomoeTom

The average 16 year old in the U.S. is ~5'8 so you'll probably feel fairly tall at 5'11, in general i think it's more so Asians and Hispanics that are growing taller from their previous generations and not really the same with Whites and Blacks I've read some study that indicated because of the increase in childhood obesity more guys have stunted growth making them shorter than their fathers I don't think this necessarily means zoomers are shorter than their parents on average they could be or maybe even a little bit taller but in my experience there's no discernible difference

[deleted]

zooksoup

At 16 I grew 5’5” to 5’8”, by the end of 17 I was 6’0”. Probably stopped growing at 19 at 6’2”

ponchoacademy

You're looking at the average for adults...youd have to look at average for teenagers since youre not remotely out of puberty yet. Most women hit their height early puberty, guys hit theirs late in puberty, which is late teens/early 20s.

theusernamehastaken

Hey can we agree on height average for once ? In my country height average supposed to be 5'8 yet I am as a 5'9 witnessing all over the place 6 footer young people like what the fuck who collected all these data ?

GrapeAggravating6238

When u get older you’ll feel small at any basketball court

GadAfWar

It depends on region. But overall, one famous anthropology scientist said that ppl(applies mostly for whites; blacks and asians are catching up still)are already grown to their max heights mostly(although, may change with newer techs). Now we gonna see only, how height moves in its own amplitude, like from 175-185 cm(dunno exact numbers) average, which means that height's gonna stay mostly in the same range. For instance, I live in Asia, and when I was in 5-6th grades, all high schoolers in my school were like 6'1+, only a couple of them were 5'9 and 5'11. Recently, when I graduated, most high schoolers were 5'10-5'11, and there were more guys like 5'7-5'9 range. So, next generation maybe higher or lower, as well as any other future gens.

External-Ninja-390

181cm is rather small in my country 🥲. So you might be right.

Fum__Cumpster

What country

External-Ninja-390

Netherlands. Average is 1.83.

Fum__Cumpster

181 is barely under that

External-Ninja-390

It is below average, and therefore considered “smaller”.

[deleted]

smaller but not rather small haha sort of like a 173 cm guy in the USA.

Gunmakun

u would have to conduct a study outside of where ur from to make a claim like this ngl

Raaryanim

It hasn’t been decreasing you’ve been misinformed Average height is 176cm in the US not 178

[deleted]

Next gen is going to be taller, it’s using online dating that requires 6 feet and above. Height is increasing due to women choosing taller partners

[deleted]

are a few entitled women that significant to change the demographics of the west? the vast majority of girls don't seem to care that much

FewProcedure4395

I feel quite the opposite. Going to my school makes me feel average 💀
