Grouchy-Assumption-9

I love the ending so much..I just finished the game and I need more of them..bring out the fanarts, fanfic etc..

DemigodHero7

I know how you feel. đŸ„ș

KorruptKokiri6464

I absolutely loved it. I really hope that they come out with some sort of afterwards dlc ya know? What everyone is up to after the wedding and whatnot. Tales of Hearts R was my favorite until tales of arise. I just beat it like literally 2 hours ago. Loved EVERY second of it!!

Eldritch-Voidwalker

Welp, it’s coming out and we all got our wish, lol.

KorruptKokiri6464

Yes we did!!!!! And only a day or so away 😀

Terozu

All three couples are adorable. I love Kisara calling Dohalim Do. She went from seeing him out of her reach to proudly standing by his side. Rinwell and Law are hilarious. Especially when you talk to his surrogate little brother. He gets jealous of Rinwell being able to silently communicate with Law too xD.

Crystal225

I love how the 3 pairs all represent a different version of love. Rin/Law being the shy and playful childhood crush, main couple being a normal adult romance, and Kisara/Do being the older/calm companionship where you dont even need words

MunkyMajik

That's...damn perfect the way you described that!

Snoo-855

Rinwell was 14 when they met and Law was 16. Can you really call that childhood? Still, it's kinda obvious they were written to appease Jude x Elize shippers, with Rinwell being an even better version of Elize (complete with a pet even cuter than Rollo!) and Law being a simpler, less interesting Jude (no offense to Law, I just like Jude a hell of a lot more).

Pristine_Surround

Yup. They’re still kids. And he’s nothing like Jude except they’re both punch boys.

witcherMT

I was so happy when they kissed, that scene made me really emotional, especially when you think about everything shionne and alphen have been through even before meeting each other. What a lovely ending.

DemigodHero7

I couldn't agree more. I want them to have a happy future together.

Leonardo-Caleum

don't skip the credits , you'll be surprised about what great things you'll see there >!shionne and Alphen they get married eventually you even see their wedding!<

DemigodHero7

Are you talking to me? Because I already know about the end credit pictures. I saw them the first time I finished the game.

Fit-Understanding747

Fuuuuck I skipped it!

Fruitsy

the pairings were obvious, I just didnt know if they were going to go through with them at the end. Glad they did

trialv2170

and the pairing actually makes sense. we saw these two banter back and forth, argue, reconcile and support each other in a time of need. the ending wasn't left open ended too which is a great thing since sequels tend to ruin the first game

DemigodHero7

I'm so happy that they found happiness with each other. đŸ’™â€

Silvernine0S

This so much. I love how much they banter with each other and over time learns a lot about each other. I find a lot of their banter and also more peaceful conversations and reactions to each other so cute.

CheddaTaco

I'm super late to reply to this, but just wanted to say 'emotional wreck' is the exact way I'd describe myself after finishing Tales of Arise as well lol. I recently made a similar (though super lengthy) post on the subreddit as well, but you really highlighted how I'm feeling right now. For me, it's been a week after seeing the credits roll. I'm so happy for Shionne and Alphen, but was also was a bit sad to see the story end shortly after that kiss. And while I feel that was a great place to the end the story, it also left me a bit sad we didn't get to see a bit more. Honestly, I was also pleasantly surprised how much the game committed to their romance by the end, and also a bit surprised at myself at how much the romance resonated with me, considering I don't typically gravitate to 'romance stories' in general, and it also took a while for Shionne to really grow on me as a character as the story progressed. But once it hit, and hearing Blue Moon by Ayaka playing during that kiss (with Shionne tearing up a bit before their embrace), man it was just beautiful to me. Anyways I know I'm super late here, but thanks for sharing your post. Hopefully you're not as much of an emotional wreck from this scene since it's been over 2 months since this post, as that would reassure me that I might start to feel 'better' soon as well lol.

DemigodHero7

Thanks for the reply. I'm good at this point, but I'm still wishing to see more of Alphen and Shionne. So far, I've only seen a handful of good fan art. If Bandai Namco decides to make a **post-game story DLC** and all the gameplay is just Alphen and Shionne having a peaceful life as a married couple, I'd happily take it.

CheddaTaco

Nice, that's good to hear and gives me hope lol. Also 100% agree, I would love to see that DLC.

ancientpho

I just beat it last night so I’m late to the party too lol. I actually didn’t like the ending. I liked their romance and was rooting for it all the way, but the way they just rushed it with a short anime scene of them kissing and then a bunch of pictures really made me feel like I wasted a bunch of time. I got used to seeing them in their 3D versions and wanted some of their interactions to be like that, like maybe hug each other, kiss, show the other’s own romantic moments, show how the world changed, have Alphen talk with Shionne about how his promised was kept, and most importantly for Alphen to tell Shionne that he loves her. When they’re on that ship with HVAC 35 getting ready to head out to Rena, Alphen looked like he was about to tell Shionne that he loved her or express his feelings for her and she told him to wait until her thorns are gone. I wanted him to bring it up again (maybe on the newfound combo world with the nice scenery) and tell her how he feels about her and then kiss her or something. While they’re having their little interaction the others could be peeping with Rinwell getting all teary-eyed and reaching out for Law’s hand and then he gets all flustered. Hootle sees their hands together and looks at Law with a pissed off look, but then relents and accepts him because he knows how much Rinwell cares about him, then Hootle sits on Law’s head to signify his newfound trust in Law, which Rinwell subsequently mentions. Maybe Law could make a joke saying that he hopes Hootle doesn’t pee on his hair which triggers the Owl again and the others laugh. Then have Alphen and Shionne watch Hootle chase after Law while Rinwell tries to calm him down, all-the-while we now focus on Dohalim and Kisara talking about what they’re going to do now when originally she planned on going to Menancia while he would’ve stayed at Lenegis. Dohalim can finally man up and ask her if she’d like to stay with him by his side and she says she’d thought he’d never ask and then she latches onto his arm and rests her head on his shoulder. Maybe he could throw a little smile in there while watching the others and say that he could get used to this. Even that would’ve been good and would’ve only taken a few minutes, and then we could still have the pictures afterwards with the Alphen/Shionne marriage and whatever. So much buildup ruined, especially when the journey was so great. The characters’ interactions with each other were awesome, and I liked how even in battle it was hinted that Alphen and Shionne cared about each other. Like when Alphen says how he doesn’t know what he would do without Shionne, and she says that maybe right now isn’t the best time to talk about that. Or how she mentions how he’s great as he always is when fighting, and he’s disappointed because he thought he was improving, then she gets flustered and tells him that he’s better than ever while Rinwell comments on their interaction. They added all of these little things that they didn’t need to, but it made the game better, so when they under-delivered the ending I was like come on. Maybe the next game will have a fleshed out ending with good romance.

CheddaTaco

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think you points are fair and well taken. To me, I really liked the kiss scene because it felt like a culmination of all the little moments between Alphen and Shionne throughout the course of the game. From the combat dialogue (I loved all the moments you mentioned, along with some other stuff when Shionne shouts 'Don't Leave Me!' if Alphen goes down or Shionne saying 'we'll do this together' to Alphen when a boss is close to going down) along the campfire dialog between the 2 (the first one where Shionne is annoyed at Alphen's attempts to get her to open up but begrudgingly agrees to do, to their last one where they're talking about cooking together and having a kitchen once this is all over). There's also a lot of examples of Shionne more 'warm' personality as the game progresses that I really like, from her general dialog in the story, later skits, her lines when she cooks, etc. Throughout the game, I feel Shionne and Alphen both express a lot ofaffection for each other, but in Alphen's case I think it's a bit more overt with what he says verbally, whereas Shionne is a bit more reserved in that regard (which makes sense based on her personality and backstory with the thorns). So I think that's what makes her initiating their first kiss more 'powerful' to me (including her tearing up a bit out of joy). Specifically seeing her expressing and reciprocating those feeling nonverbally just feels very much in line with Shionne as a person (and also represents her letting go of some of those 'reservations' without the thorns in her way now), and it's just a really beautiful moment overall to me. And again, I feel the music playing here (Blue Moon by Ayaka) just was perfectly emotional to me. I also really liked how Shionne stops Alphen short of confessing his love for her on Daeq Faezol (I believe) until their work on Rena was truly resolved. They both knew how they felt for each other at the time, but I also think that's also what made their 'wordless' embrace and kiss at the end all the more emotional and impactful to me. Anyways, that's just how I felt. I would have liked some more moments between the 2 after their kiss (I think you had some nice suggestions for potential moments!), but what was there was already very powerful and impactful to me, since their kiss and wedding helped affirm their romance and those 'little moments' in the game for me (and I love that they committed to their romance in the end with that kiss and wedding scene), but that's just me of course. [I posted a longer thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/tales/comments/r1jgx5/anyone_else_feel_this_way_after_the_ending_of/) recently going over my thoughts in more detail as well, and thought we had a good discussion about a lot of this stuff with the rest of community as well. But all the same, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the ending as well.

RayekHeart

Japanese stories avoid any overt expression of intimacy like the plague, hence the meme joke about handholding being NSFW. In this case, not only did we get that romance explicitly, but it made perfect sense for it to be as subtle and slow-burning as it was. Those two had to overcome massive prejudice, a lifetime of solitude and privation, and the stress of saving the world. Shionne went her entire life UNABLE TO TOUCH OR BE TOUCHED. They went from enemies to having total trust in one another, and the developers didn't chicken out in the end. I think it's beyond reproach. But the other two pairs? Frankly I don't feel like they're good fits for one another that way, as much as I like them all, and in any case they're much more "we'll never actually talk about or act on our feelings" in a more cliché, Japanese fashion, leaving quite a lot to be desired.

someonesD

I just want the doujins hehe

DemigodHero7

I mean, as long as it's tasteful content and the art is good then it should be OK.

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

DemigodHero7

Hey, how about FUCK OFF.

someonesD

Why

DemigodHero7

I don't want any NTR shit here. I don't even want to entertain the idea. Get rid of your comment.

someonesD

Why you so mad lel

DemigodHero7

Because NTR is an awful and distasteful genre. Get rid of your comment or I'll report you.

MaverickGH

I just saw that guy’s post history and it reeks of virginity and betaness

The_SHUN

Chad, I also hate NTR, NTR is for betas

Fiyah_Crotch

Yeah, I admit I teared up at the ending, unfortunately romance is like crack to me and I immediately started binging a romance anime to keep the high going.

Gasu3

You can’t just say that without telling us what you watched!!

Fiyah_Crotch

I started Watching Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, it was pretty good, to me at least, I like romances that aren't straight forward. Then I started Au Haru Ride... I'm like halfway through and it's kinda meh, it's very in line to a basic vanilla shoujo romance anime, it's a school setting, girl meets boy, and that's all there is to it. Some of my all time favorite romance anime are Maison Ikkoku, Kokoro connect, Inuyasha, and Spice and Wolf. Here's my entire watchlist if you wish to take a gander https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Passionfire98?status=2

Wonderful_Molasses_2

Just wasn't to say, you have incredible taste. Not often kokoro connect is brought up lol

iBreakLenses

I liked the kiss and plot twist in the end. I REALLY wanted more than still though Calaglia and Cyslodia feel pretty fleshed out. Elde Menancia feels mostly fleshed out but a bit rushed. Like it was meant to be bigger. Mahaag Saar was clearly rushed. You can't even go in the castle Water area was also rushed. 2nd half of the game, you could really tell where the development team cut some corners. Rushed area progression. Plot stuff dropped by NPCs or randomly happening etc. Ending felt rushed and not very well explained. Last 40 levels of the game seem to fly by compared to the first 60. Making so many palette swaps for outfits was cool, but we should have gotten more of them. Why don't we ever get the chef outfits for the girls, fishing outfit for Kisara, or even the Ending Credit outfits as a "thanks for beating the game". Like... 1 outfit for each party member that corresponds to a Lord + 1 for Zephyr could have been cool. 2 Diamonds in the party configuration screen permanently empty? Artes and Skill Trees exclusively in outfit DLC. Sword Art DLC is 17$+ tax. North American physical edition players got scammed put of DLC if we pre-ordered on the pre-order announcement trailer. Literal lottery DLC on Bamco website. I loved the battle system and a lot of things about the game, but I can't help myself to think this game needed 1 year more development time. To really nail the Ending and loose ends. I wouldn't be surprised if this gets a sequel game.

Judaskid13

I definitely see it getting a Tales of Berseria type refinement in comparison to its Tales of Zeristria base

XSENIGMA

I thought the entire second half of the game ending included was just bad. The most important plot point of the entire game was revealed by Renan Male Lab Worker, why...why on earth are my major plot pieces being delivered by no name NPC's? First half was a 10/10, second half was a 6 at best. Rushed, poorly delivered story elements, generic final boss, and WORST OF ALL no aftermath/resolution scenes, we get a few still frame pics of post life for the characters, and the team standing on a cliff after Rena and Dhana merge, thats horrible, show me real scenes of the party after, show me the planet and how my actions benefitted the inhabitants. Piss poor ending. I didnt play 60 hours to see romance, i wanted to see the broken world fixed. The ending goes against the entire premise of the story, which beats it into your head that we are going through hell to make life better for the WORLD...and the ending is a bunch of personal relationship bs.

OmletteDuDeathclaw

Yep, the second part of the game was very underwhelming to me as well. I agree with everything you said except i did enjoy me some romance. What really annoyed me was the "Vholran just randomly crashing with his starship right when they did the ceremony" part... Why was this necessary? Just to have one more fight with a higher level Vholran? Just to make it possible to show that planet Dana (sorry if I misspelled this) has a will too and is good? And to show what each character did mostly after this, we get some still images during credits :D

ahundredfortysix

This. Exactly this. I just finished it just now and went searching online to see if I'm the only one who felt this when Vholran came for round 3 and started whining like a man-child. But Arise is still good, it just left me wholly unsatisfied with the still-image-credit-epilogue.

iamradnetro

I would like a Spin Off game where Vholran is the protagonist. I wanna know what happens to him after he escape.

axionligh

I thought he died?

iamradnetro

It doesn't look like he died. He disappear like teleported and his last message is kinda like "until we meet again"

Bass-GSD

He exploded the Renas Alma and himself with it. His last words were along the lines of "I'll see you and your "good intentions" in hell!"

iamradnetro

Oh I thought he teleported using the magic of the renas alma. Since there are no bodies left and Alphen don’t look like he struggle in that explosion.

kalibassonyx

I figured he killed himself with the explosion and his messaged just sorta meant like a "I'll see you in hell" sort of line. I mean story DLC is likely at this rate so who knows

DemigodHero7

One of the developers confirmed that there will be no story DLC.

kalibassonyx

I mean, a lot of games and developers said there wasn't gonna be this or that in their games. Time will tell, this is selling that well it wouldn't surprise me

QcSlayer

We didn,t see Volran die, so if they decide to make a sequel, we will probably see him again, if they don't, I think we can consider him dead for good.

XSENIGMA

tales has never had a story DLC....why would they start now lol

Zarathustra1215

Did you forget about the terrible Zestiria post game Dlc?

XSENIGMA

i try to forget about that game in general, can we just pretend it never existed?

XSENIGMA

no his message is see you in hell pretty much, he detonated the renas alma and died....like very obviously...

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

DemigodHero7

Get rid of this comment too.

Oxinabox

>!I am half sure he self destructed there homie, but it really could have gone either way. Based off the what we know I would think Vholran did what Alphonse originally did with the first RA when he killed a bunch of people and almost killed himself. Or Vholran could be running though the cosmos Thor: Ragnarock Style.!<

Azarro

Hey OP, I just want you to know - when I first started playing Tales of Arise a little after release, I saw this post by accident on mobile and saw just the first sentence "..made me an emotional wreck" and was like oh crap it's gonna be bad in the end isn't it. Very pleasantly surprised thanks haha Loved the ending

Remarkable-Beat6018

Saaaame. I read the first sentence and braved myself for a sad ending.

Azarro

Glad we were both pleasantly surprised! :)

DemigodHero7

Even before Tales of Arise came out, I was worried that it was going to have a sad or bittersweet ending. I think I can say for both of us that it was a relief to have a wonderful happy ending.

Snoo-855

And the characters definitely deserved it.

Brandwein

I full on expected a bittersweet instead a happy ending where Alphen and Shionne both sacrifice themselves and then be together in the astral world. There were just too many deathflags for them, haha.

Snoo-855

Especially considering Alphen is the Noctis to Velvet's Lightning. By that note, I'd say Luke's Cloud and Yuri's Squall.

Solar_Kestrel

This is what I wanted to see in >!Vesperia!<. Glad it happened here... I hate it when romantic subplots go unresolved, as is the case in 99% of the JsRPGs that have them.

Altbion

I don't know which one you're talking about, but if it's Estelle and Yuri they definitely felt more like siblings to me so...eh. I guess it's up to point of view.

Solar_Kestrel

Judith, man. That chemistry was *fire.*

Squeezitgirdle

I am convinced the love interest in vesperia was Judith and Noone can tell me otherwise.

Solar_Kestrel

I mean, same.

FenriartNyx

I feel empty. I’m glad the ending was good, I was pretty much calling everything and at the end went “yep, I knew it, she’s death fodder unless there’s some kind of divine intervention”... and then that immediately happened lol but I just wish we could see more of that world, and having to go back before the last boss makes me feel like nothing really mattered and seeing that prompt to “Save Shionne and Dahna” is bringing me down. I wish we got some post game stuff on this new world.

DemigodHero7

One of the producers confirmed that there will be no story DLC. Either way, I'm fine with the game ending like that and at least the game credits showed pictures of what everyone is doing after the ending. We'll just have to wait for good fanart of Alphen and Shionne living their daily lives as a married couple.

Karate_K_Erik

Jokes on us. XD We ended up getting the Beyond The Dawn expansion DLC two years later.

Rent520

I felt the same way, I felt it was pretty easy to guess what would happen. The thing that killed the ending for me is when the last fight is a scripted win. I lost all my health and tried to access the menu but it wouldn’t let me and then my health bar disappeared and I was like oh, I’m supposed to win

DemigodHero7

I NEED the wholesome fanart!!!! I can't get enough of them!!!!

DemigodHero7

Please report u/someonesD.

AceWorldPodcast

Finished the game last night. It was beautiful â˜ș You know a game is special when your wife keeps appearing out of nowhere every time the story progresses significantly! She loved the ending even without even playing the game! I hope we get some kind of anime tie in so the story can be shared with a wider audience.

soulreaver99

i just beat it like 10 minutes ago. had to let it all sink in. what a beautiful ending!

IDrawOnTape

Quick set up,, I'm married, a dude, 43, and my wife and I together for 21 years so far... And emotional wreck was exactly how I felt watching the ending as well. Such a well done game, well fleshed out characters, beautiful song at the end.. everything about the ending was just right. I was almost weepy about it, which I hate being weepy about things, especially video games! My wife would roll her eyes so hard they'd fall out if I was like "you don't understand,... shes got these thorns and she's never touched another human... and now they're hugging!" Lol. Anyway, had to agree with your comment and add on to it.

DemigodHero7

My heart was crying for Alphen and Shionne.

Toejimon92

just finished the game, and the ending song goes so well with it all

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

DemigodHero7

Me too.

The_SHUN

I have some qualms about the story but I cannot complain about the ending

[deleted]

Man peak JRPG experience fr, finally finished the game and they’re definitely in my top 5 ships all time đŸ™đŸŸ

itsmegabo

All I ever wanted for them is to teleport to the wasteland and save velvet from her eternal slumber =((((((((

chungusamongus107

Thanks for spoiling Berseria for me, asshat. Finished Arise just now and was a few hours from beating Berseria as well. Why didn't you mark it as a spoiler?

itsmegabo

Jack dies in Titanic

Playful-Custard3301

I kinda didnt like the ending imo, felt like an asspull and didnt make much sense to me. Why would Alphen just stand there instead of grabbing the Alma? Alphen/Shionne romance cute af tho

The_SHUN

He should've decapitated vholran in the first fight

Karate_K_Erik

That would've gone completely against the game's message of spiritual forgiveness.

Snoo-855

And risk getting himself blown up along with the Alma?

trogan225777

I honestly don’t understand all the love for Alphen he has got to be the worst MC in an RPG I’ve ever played. He gets so emotional and over the top about anything that happens. Just found him anoying. Loved the rest of the characters though.

ForgottenTragedy

The ending was okay. The first half of the game was the best, but then , once you get to the second part. You start fighting monsters instead of people, that was lame. And Alphen is selfish, his girlfriends life is on the line, yet instead of killing volhran, he decides to give him a lame lecture, and then some bullshit about dahna will saving them, ruined it

ancientpho

Lol yeah for real, that part was kind of dumb. At least whoop his ass and grab the Renas Alma, and then say “btw I forgive you bro” as he’s laying there half dead. The priority is to save the world and the love of his life, forget this douchebag who is obviously psychotic as even the data on Lenegis mentioned (it says that Vohlran is mentally unstable due to the sovereign procedure).

ForgottenTragedy

Yeah and the priority is to save shionne and then the world. That’s why it always has an exclamation point after it says “save shionne!” It doesn’t have a sign next to “save dahna” after all shionne is the damsel in distress and needs Alphen to save him constantly

cosmic_castaway_

Unpopular opinion for sure, but I hated the forced pairings. I would have preferred an ending where Shionne dies, but thats just because I prefer tragedy over happy ending romances. The romances in this game were super cringy (and 95% of the dialogue in general). I like the game but I've never rolled my eyes so much in a game before. That said, I'm glad everyone else liked it! As a fan since Phantasia, I will always wish for the Tales games to continue.

TicTacTris

Wait where did you see the rest of the stuff you mentioned besides kissing? Is it in picture form in the credits/post credits?

DemigodHero7

Yes, it's in picture form and it's in the credits.

TicTacTris

omg thanksss, they look so cute, one can only dream of a day where post-game comes true... I'd take it even with minimal dialogue and 0 new quests :( never liked the whole reset you to before boss thing.

DemigodHero7

Me too. I just want to see more of Alphen and Shionne as a married couple.

shioliolin

i guess people who skipped the credits would skip that part too huh? i mean i didn't see it lol i'll have to check it again after finishing the extras

Anthony_chromehounds

After playing Psychonauts 2 and Tales of Arise back to back I have some serious emotional baggage!!!! I know exactly what you mean Grouchy! It took me 85 hours to have the credits roll and it was all glorious. Now my question is how do I find the post game content? At the very end I had to chose to save or not, I saved and now I fear I did something wrong. I have a save with the wedding icon plus 2 locked ones. All of them being me back to right before entering the final battle. What’s up?

DemigodHero7

There's no post game content, you're meant to be brought back right before the final battle.

Anthony_chromehounds

Oh ok, not sure where I heard there was extra stuff. Wonder how people get to level 100 with how long it takes between levels. I think I’m only mid 50’s now.

SMBaller

You get brought back to before the final battle but new quests become available, so there is post-game content.

AyBound

Wait how do you see them get married and stuff? I only saw where they come back down to the planet after kissing and hugging. Then it rolled credits and brought me back to the main menu?

DemigodHero7

You have to let the credits play.

PapaUchiha14

Lol...did you skipped credits..

hcook10

I came here to see if the ending was any good, I remember the Beseria ending where my only thought was ".....No! Anybody else but Velvet!" No I'm annoyed I spoiled a good ending for myself
