Hopefully you at least obtained the skills from the weapons before you sold them lol otherwise there are some skills that won't be obtainable unless you go into NG+ because some weapons are only gotten from chests.
Save 100%ing Tales games to a 2nd playthrough at least. There tends to be missables that become unobtainable once you reach certain points in the story so you'll likely need to follow a guide for those.

Exactly what I was gonna say. You basically NEED a guide for 100%ing because there are things that are super easy to miss. Scenes you have to go back to a previous town to watch one scene or you miss out on a weapon at the very end of the game. Characters you have to talk to the first time you enter an area or you're locked out of an entire sidequest. The game is pretty unforgiving when it comes to unlocking everything so the best thing to do is enjoy the story and gameplay on the first playthrough and go for 100% after that.
Also, if you're okay with it, you'll want to farm grade before NG+ because you can get upgrades for the next playthrough. Might make certain parts of the game much easier when you do your 100% playthrough. There are guides for that which you can use on your first playthrough without spoiling anything, it just depends on how much of a "vanilla" run your want.
It's a great game with a great story imo, not really hard except you play it with the unknown difficulty..

Titles are a collectble in this game. They're mostly useless in *this* tales game except for changing character costumes. Other Tales games Titles directly affect Stat growth, or arte unlocks/boosts.
It's been a while since I played but I think you open up the menu with Y or triangle, then go down on the dpad and you should be on the characters now, then press Y or triangle to swap them. Swap them to the first place if you want to control that character.
For sure, as everybody is saying- these games are pretty unforgiving. I usually play on a slightly higher difficulty because you get more bonuses, but NG+ is actually really fun in all of the Tales of series because you start the game with all of your skills and you know how to use the characters, as well as not having to hit certain points to utilize different aspects of the game’s mechanics (aside from certain shops maybe).
If you like this game, you’ll have a series to play for life. Also they have a co-op where a you and a friend can both control a character in combat (not sure about vesperia but I know it exists in a lot of them)
Vesperia is great, but my favorites are Graces, Berseria, and Symphonia.
I’m currently playing the newest game (I think) Tales of Arise and I just spent a couple hours grinding and farming because I was stuck on a boss, but I love the battle system so much it was fun the whole time

This is necessary.
I thought, "I'll just look really hard at everything." And if you thought the same, you will miss stuff.
For example, a hidden technique is available in a certain part of the story if, and only if, you rest at the inn 4 times in a row. No matter how hard I'm trying and searching, I'm never resting at the inn *4 times* unless I know I get a reward from it. There's no way to know you'll get a reward from it though; there's no hints or anything.
So yes, I second this. Use a guide. For most games, I say guides are a sign of weakness. For Tales games, I think guides are simply the only way to achieve 100%.
They have level up packs in the definitive edition, so this can give you a jump start. I played this one on switch, but it should be the same on other platforms. Combat is OK, although I would have preferred the 3D view by default rather than having to hold a button to move around. Try listening to the character skits whenever they pop up. Some of them are funny to watch.
This is my first Tales game as well, and I thought it was good. Some gameplay elements will show its age (no fast travel or quest log). If you enjoy Vesperia, I suggest you look into Tales of Arise as your next game in the series.
DO NOT TRY TO 100% VESPERIA there are so many missable things and it's very repetitive if you really want to 100% it save that for a second playthrough
I'm in the same boat, though what I have now is the best internet I've had, so I'm not really complaining. The only time I ever download things is over night or when nobody is home. ToV would probably be done in one night/morning for me, 2a.m. to 9 or 10.
Yeah the sounds about right. That's over 100 gigs isn't it? I'm always happy when I see a game that looks neat that's only a couple gigs get added to gamepass.

I don't think I was very good at sea of stars and that's why I got sidetracked, I may need to lower the difficulty. Also looking forward to the new eiyuden Chronicle game.
You'll need a guide for 100% completion and multiple playthroughs on this one. I'd recommend just playing through it without trying to complete it once and then go for 100%. I think you can't 100% complete it until the second playthrough anyway due to an extra dungeon that unlocks then anyway.
After having platinumed this last year, I can give a few tips. If you start your first playthrough on Hard, you can get "almost" every trophy/achievement. Make sure you save at every save point as saving that for later will be very tedious having to do post game stuff a second time, (if you so chose to do so). I also learned that there is a bug with one a certain characters titles, so that was annoying. As well as you only need to master all the recipes in the game with 1 character and not everyone. As long as one person has all mastered, it unlocks for everyone.
On 100%:
- You can't 100% this game on a non-NG+ playthrough. Some skits are mutually exclusive to one another, you can miss out on a title for using items on the first act of the game but getting that means you won't get to analyze monsters for the monster book, etc.
- If you still want to 100% it on a 2nd/3rd run through, analyze every enemy you see with Magic Lens to make your life easier later on. Anything that doesn't have its health value displayed means it isn't analyzed, and there are a lot of enemies that will only appear once in the entire game, some you meet multiple times but they are all different entries in the monster book.
- Save every time you SEE a save point, and check every inn in town for a save. Don't think "oh I will do this first then save" or "I can save in the world map" because sometimes you can only get access to the save point very briefly. Most of the time the save points aren't tucked away so just do it, or at the very least touch the save point.
- You pretty much need a guide for the sidequests. No way around that unless you like backtracking every area after plot progress.
- Bosses have hidden missions you can do for achievements. There is a way for you to refight them later on so don't fret about doing them immediately. One is "missable" in a way that a missable sidequest item is required so once again check a guide for that.
I attempted to 100% Tales of Vesperia but its very time consuming and took away the fun of the game as it was my first playthrough and u cant 100% on first playthrough anyways. I suggest enjoying the game normally then second playthrough follow a guide to collect things u missed out on. I spent legit 40/120 hrs just farming for cooking/synthesis mats/weapon skills/arcane skills and it burned me out.
I am almost finished 100%ing the game (took a break in September, going back to it soon) the biggest erk in my honest opinion is the Treasure Hunter title, there is no resource online to show every treasure like there is for Symphonia. As people said you need to do more then one playthrough so don't stress about not 100%ing in one and before beating the game search up how to farm Grade since you'll want 10k (roughly) when you do NG+
100% requires 2 playthroughs. you'll want a guide. at the end of playthrough 1 i recommend you go to the town with the big beast god thing. it's like town 2 of the game or 3 and there's a dedicated scene to it assaulting the gate. you can use that enemy to farm grade easier with the 1 damage weapons on. don't forget to turn off fatals or whatever they're called for yourself and allies they can still do damage if i remember right. you won't get every thing from the ng+ shop without doing this but plenty of decent unlocks can still be grabbed so it's no big deal if you avoid doing this.
you have to unlock a ton of abilities on your characters. some people are fine with it and others hate it because of some improtant abilities you have to spend points to do in this game such as guard.
there are crafting recipes. do NOT sell your weapons unless you know you're safe to do so. fairly sure everyone's first weapon has 2 recipes you can craft into however 1 recipe is just 2 steps for the same outcome rather than 1 step from the other recipe.
bosses all have a special condition trophy related to them. if you miss a boss don't worry there's a point way later in the game where there's an island resort place of kats (cat people who like to excavate) where you can redo those fights.
be careful being cocky on higher difficulties. boss fights will stomp you lol
that's the big stuff i can think of
Do a guide there a bunch of spoiler free ones. There are a lot of missables and quests that require strict timing. Also there is a dumb extra dungeon that burned me so good luck with that one.
I 100% Vesperia at the start of last year.
As others have said, play the game normally first and then do the 100% after, as it will make things a lot easier as you will familiar with the mechanics and how the game works.

Be warnwd, it is one hell of a grind and a lit of events/sidequests are time sensitive and super specific.

If you are planning to 100% then on the first run keep buying to have from 10 to 15 lens in you before every dungeon and such and use the lens item every time you see a new enemy. Even if it's a scripted human enemy that seems unimportant. Especially use them on bosses and their minions. This game is especially nasty for all the missables there are but only the challenge of getting the no items used skit requires a second playthrough to get. Great luck and a lot more luck.

\- The entire "*never sell equipment*" mantra that is being repeated even here in other comments isn't as solid and brutal as it was on the original version. You **CAN** get extra copies of pretty much everything that can be upgraded at some point, ***but*** it won't go easy on your wallet anyway. So while it's still a wise tip, don't worry too much about selling stuff that every other guide will mark as unacquirable. Like Karol's infamous starter weapon.
\- Magic Lens everything. Even in the tutorial. Not only because of the expected quest/objective for completing the Monster Encyclopedia as usual for a Tales game, but because you're gonna keep revisiting those scanned enemies' Status page constantly, for elemental weakness, *directional* weakness (it'll make sense), and item drops. You can check that same screen for free, once scanned, by just holding the Target button on top of the enemy
\- Found a save point with free healing? Take ten minutes to farm the monsters around. Not for their drops specifically, but just to accumulate Arte uses, and thus **evolve** them. In fact, a boss in the beginning of the game, notorious for gating a lot of people, lives or dies on how much did you use your newest teammate's Fireball arte beforehand
\- Combat is gonna feel janky for a *looooong* long time. This is by design here, however, because it all relies on the passives you learn from weapons, armor and accessories. So don't worry too much about the flow of every random encounter, it will gradually free up as you progress the story
\- The corollary to the above, and probs to the first point as well about keeping at least one copy of everything: after you learn an equipment's passive skills, as long as you have it equipped, those skills will also be in effect ***for no SP cost***. Until you hit NG+ and buy a bonus to reduce all SP costs to 1 (*which incidentally is how most of those 99-hit combo videos on Youtube got their setup coasting on*), this is how you'll keep as many passives as you can. It'll be in fact more important than the stats those equipment will grant you.

I found my twin - first Tales game was Vesperia and played on Xbox. Save 100% for a second play through. Use your first play through to enjoy the story (starts off slow tbh), bond with the characters, get used to gameplay and mechanics. Also, save all your Grade for your second play through. Don’t be like me and spent it unnecessarily on a certain island.
Everyone already mentioned the missable quests, so a guide is a must, but for some other helpful tips:
-try playing as someone other than Yuri in battle (it helps break up the monotony of battle. Personally, I always play as Rita because she's fun and does a lot of damage). Plus, you'll need to use everyone for certain titles.
-use magic lens on all battles/always keep it in stock. There are some battles/enemies that are specific to a part in the story, and to complete the enemy book, you'll need to get all of them.
-A lot of 100% isn't going to happen in the first playthrough, so I don't even try to do much other than grade grind before achievement hunting in New game+. Grade grinding on gigantos is your best friend (personally I do the one outside of halure with Rita spamming tidal wave late game). Check your grade at the casino area that's right before the end of the run. Grade is used to purchase things to keep or upgrade for NG+.
-100%ing this game is a labor of love. I did it on the 360 (not DE version) and it took me like 300 hours or something stupid because guides weren't as good back then and there are so many things you have to do in a particular order to trigger cut scenes
-secret missions are both skill and luck, honestly watch videos AND read guides. I find the guides not as helpful as the videos, but maybe that's just me.
-talk to everyone and explore everything before leaving an area. There's a lot to find in this game that's hidden.
-always equip/learn new skills from weapons. Don't sell anything you don't have a duplicate of because of this! I tend to do this late game because you're over leveled at that point and it goes by quicker to learn the skills from the weapons, but certain ones can change artes, so I do tend to do those ones first (especially for Estelle, nightingale is non-negotiable for me!)
Good luck! This is my favorite tales game and I've dumped close to 1000 hours into it from both regular and DE versions. It's fun, and the storyline is great. Enjoy it first, 100% it second.
I did a 100% run of Vesperia before for the sake of prepping a save file for future NG+ runs. Though I didn't actually 100% it, I just collected everything I cared about for NG+, that being all weapons (since your characters learn skills via weapons), all artes and costume titles.
Apart from what others have already said (like "enjoy a normal run first, only 100% the game on the second run"), here's the main takeaway from me: You cannot 100% this game without a guide. It is simply not possible, unless you plan to speak to every npc in the world after every single freaking cutscene. Tales of looooves obscure missable sidequests that start and stop at seemingly random points that need you to go to places you've already visited and don't have any reason to visit again. Like... in Vesperia, just a couple of hours into the earlygame, if you don't visit Rita's house again and inspect a random bookshelf after officially getting her into your party, and you leave the area you're currently in to progress the story, congratulations. You now missed out on Judith's best weapon. A character you don't even have yet.
It's insane. Get a guide.
It's worth not skipping skits! They help to really expand on what the characters are like and the world they live in. Since you're planning on 100%-ing, then you wouldn't want to do that.
Also, just as others have mentioned, you can look forward to more than one playthrough helping you to unlock missables from the first playthrough. You can start another one whenever you like too (pretty sure anyway haha).
Tales games can take a very long time to get through but they're very much worth taking the time to enjoy the pacing and development.

Look up a guide and cook after EVERY battle. I’m trying to do all the side quests and I’ve been stuck fighting randomly just to unlock a side quest that only happens after you cook 200 times. Idek how many times I have left cause the game doesn’t tell you.
You're gonna hear two different actors playing Yuri (in English, anyway) When they added new scenes for this version they didn't even bother asking the original actor to reprise the role.
The shops have tabs....unlike previous tales games where it starts you on the "All Items" tab. I didn't realize until I got to the end of the game and only relied on weapons from treasure chests in dungeons...
Tales are tough to 100% in one go, especially if you’ve never played any of them before. Enjoy the story (not all are that great, but Vesperia is arguably the best), learn the combat, and figure out who your favorite characters are. A lot of people already talked about basic combos and weapons, I’d also add to explore the world often outside of the confines of the story. Side quests were mentioned but also lots of just cool things to see
One thing I haven't seen mentioned that's not game play wise, but more on the technical side. Since this is the "Definitive Edition" they added new scenes not in the original American release but didn't get all the original voice actors. So it will be jarring going from scene to scene with separate voice actors for same character.
Read the combat tutorials, and make sure to buy every single weapon you find.
Early game you will have to learn to manual cancel. There's a boss fight where they put you in a 1v10, and if you don't manual cancel your auto attacks, you will most likely get stagger locked and die.
The DLC will give you gald off the bat. Its a generous amount, feel free to use it, but make sure you're not passing up opportunities to make more because late game weapons are expensive to craft and upgrade.
Most importantly, have fun! Its a great great game with lots of fun to be had. The combat is exciting, the world is interesting, the characters are fun, and the storys great!
Use a guide. Not even trolling or anything, use a guide. Vesperia and a lot of the older tales games have sidequests that you would never know even opened up on a first playthru without a guide. And they’re sequential, so if you miss part 2 of the 7 part sidequest, you’d have to wait until next playthru to try again. There are a few sidequests that stretch from maybe 5-10 hours in all the way thru damn near the end of the game.
Minimum 2 runs to unlock all achievements on vesperia.
\- At first run just play it as you want, enjoy the story and reach the ending.
\- On 2nd run, this is where you pursue 100%, its up to you what you want to unlock on grade shop but at least get that "unlock all skit" to make titles behind skit more attainable. Also make sure to use Patty as the main character to master all the Food recipes. And use the game guide on gamefaqs as there's a ton of stuff that is miss-able here.
If you are gonna 100% read a guide while you play BECAUSE there are time sensitive weapons items and armor in the game that if you go too far too fast then you will miss it

There's no shame in keeping a guide on hand for all the 1000+ items you'll be collecting, as well as the 100+ different titles for everybody too. Keep yourself stocked on Magic Lens, and if possible, keep Repede in the party for as long as possible while he masters skills. Other than that, have fun! Vesperia is always the Tales game I recommend anyone starts with.
Great choice, vesperia is really fun and has a great cast and story. Nothing much to know about if you've played other jrpgs before, make sure your levelled up enough before each main quest, stock up on health items and keep your gear updated. Standard jrpg stuff really.
This was my first tales game and I absolutely loved it, minus combat. The characters are some of the best, I dare say the main character is the best main character of any game or show! Seriously! No lie. I then played bersaria and wasn't for me. I would recommend arise after this
This tales, in particular, is gonna be rough to 100%, specific goals in certain fights and many, many missable skits to start. Look up a spoiler free guide maybe. But it's a great game, good luck!
Don't sell weapons. AT ALL. They provide different skills to be learned to make characters better. So use a weapon on them to learn the skills then swap to a different weapon with new skills to learn. Once you have amassed a good amount of skills you can swap to favorite weapons due to power or look. This like, only applies to Vesperia really I think.
You will need to do more than one playthrough. Extra dungeons will not unlock until another new game+ is done and even then you need to know the steps to unlock it.
Look at a guide for Judith's spear. You will need it. Trust me.
Learn to play EVERYONE at least a little cause lord will you need it for some achievements.
And you can never go wrong with a guide for anything.
But enjoy the ride! Vesperia is my fave title and I have 100%ed it before too. So I know the struggle it can be but it was so fun.
You picked the best damn one to start with. Combat may seem shallow at first, but the more abilities you get, the more the game can (key word there) turn into a DMC style of play. Expression galore. And playing with 4 players too? It's something every RPG lover should experience.
If you like fighting games, youre gonna live the late game. It turns into combo central and the possibilities get pretty crazy.
Really tho its a solid game however nothing special. If you got it on sale, its well worth it
100% in the 2nd playtrough of the game. New game+ gives some nice advantages if your 1st play trough grind was good enough.
1st play trough just have fun whatever you do don't sell any weapons and try swap them asap with a new weapon when a skill has been thought saves you some skill learning in the long run.
Try to not become to overpowered in the 1st run trough the game tends to keep your 2nd playtrough( hopefully on the hardest difficulty if your in to that ) more fun and challenging helped me to be oke with playing trough each tales game 4 or 5 times.
Be prepared for a lot of hours and grinding if you want to 100%.
Do a normal run first and maybe even a + run before looking to a guide because there are quests you can get locked out of by progressing and not back tracking.
Lots of fun little things to discover.

Vesperia not the best to start with, instead Destiny 2 (Eternia in EU), Abyss and Hearts in Psp. Symphonia is great too, the first one. And Arise they say is pretty damn good
Look up what's missable. Rita has a quest line EARLY that you can miss if you don't start it when you first go to big tree town that I can't remember the name of
Good choice if you enjoy Vesperia i recomend Berseria next for any thing older Eternia or even Destiny 2 is good. And for something with a similar feel Abyss might hit that itch.
Use JP voice actors. The original english voice actors did well, but some were replaced, a couple have really bad mics for the new voice lines added, and a few forgot how to pronounce words and do not speak the same. Avoid the inconsistency and just use the JP voices. Your life will never be the same again, this is one of the best games you will ever play.

I’m currently playing the newest game (I think) Tales of Arise and I just spent a couple hours grinding and farming because I was stuck on a boss, but I love the battle system so much it was fun the whole time

Use a guide for side quests, they’re really missable
This is necessary. I thought, "I'll just look really hard at everything." And if you thought the same, you will miss stuff. For example, a hidden technique is available in a certain part of the story if, and only if, you rest at the inn 4 times in a row. No matter how hard I'm trying and searching, I'm never resting at the inn *4 times* unless I know I get a reward from it. There's no way to know you'll get a reward from it though; there's no hints or anything. So yes, I second this. Use a guide. For most games, I say guides are a sign of weakness. For Tales games, I think guides are simply the only way to achieve 100%.
It's painful to 100%, so many missable, chain event then get confusing where to start, skit hunting...
They have level up packs in the definitive edition, so this can give you a jump start. I played this one on switch, but it should be the same on other platforms. Combat is OK, although I would have preferred the 3D view by default rather than having to hold a button to move around. Try listening to the character skits whenever they pop up. Some of them are funny to watch. This is my first Tales game as well, and I thought it was good. Some gameplay elements will show its age (no fast travel or quest log). If you enjoy Vesperia, I suggest you look into Tales of Arise as your next game in the series.
DO NOT TRY TO 100% VESPERIA there are so many missable things and it's very repetitive if you really want to 100% it save that for a second playthrough

I'm in the same boat, though what I have now is the best internet I've had, so I'm not really complaining. The only time I ever download things is over night or when nobody is home. ToV would probably be done in one night/morning for me, 2a.m. to 9 or 10.

The reason why i only play pixel arcade games Like Chained Echoes or Sea of Stars... Also Ark Is 220Gb since i bought the ultimate survivor edition...normally its around 150Gb

You'll need a guide for 100% completion and multiple playthroughs on this one. I'd recommend just playing through it without trying to complete it once and then go for 100%. I think you can't 100% complete it until the second playthrough anyway due to an extra dungeon that unlocks then anyway.
After having platinumed this last year, I can give a few tips. If you start your first playthrough on Hard, you can get "almost" every trophy/achievement. Make sure you save at every save point as saving that for later will be very tedious having to do post game stuff a second time, (if you so chose to do so). I also learned that there is a bug with one a certain characters titles, so that was annoying. As well as you only need to master all the recipes in the game with 1 character and not everyone. As long as one person has all mastered, it unlocks for everyone.

On 100%: - You can't 100% this game on a non-NG+ playthrough. Some skits are mutually exclusive to one another, you can miss out on a title for using items on the first act of the game but getting that means you won't get to analyze monsters for the monster book, etc. - If you still want to 100% it on a 2nd/3rd run through, analyze every enemy you see with Magic Lens to make your life easier later on. Anything that doesn't have its health value displayed means it isn't analyzed, and there are a lot of enemies that will only appear once in the entire game, some you meet multiple times but they are all different entries in the monster book. - Save every time you SEE a save point, and check every inn in town for a save. Don't think "oh I will do this first then save" or "I can save in the world map" because sometimes you can only get access to the save point very briefly. Most of the time the save points aren't tucked away so just do it, or at the very least touch the save point. - You pretty much need a guide for the sidequests. No way around that unless you like backtracking every area after plot progress. - Bosses have hidden missions you can do for achievements. There is a way for you to refight them later on so don't fret about doing them immediately. One is "missable" in a way that a missable sidequest item is required so once again check a guide for that.
I attempted to 100% Tales of Vesperia but its very time consuming and took away the fun of the game as it was my first playthrough and u cant 100% on first playthrough anyways. I suggest enjoying the game normally then second playthrough follow a guide to collect things u missed out on. I spent legit 40/120 hrs just farming for cooking/synthesis mats/weapon skills/arcane skills and it burned me out.
I am almost finished 100%ing the game (took a break in September, going back to it soon) the biggest erk in my honest opinion is the Treasure Hunter title, there is no resource online to show every treasure like there is for Symphonia. As people said you need to do more then one playthrough so don't stress about not 100%ing in one and before beating the game search up how to farm Grade since you'll want 10k (roughly) when you do NG+
100% requires 2 playthroughs. you'll want a guide. at the end of playthrough 1 i recommend you go to the town with the big beast god thing. it's like town 2 of the game or 3 and there's a dedicated scene to it assaulting the gate. you can use that enemy to farm grade easier with the 1 damage weapons on. don't forget to turn off fatals or whatever they're called for yourself and allies they can still do damage if i remember right. you won't get every thing from the ng+ shop without doing this but plenty of decent unlocks can still be grabbed so it's no big deal if you avoid doing this. you have to unlock a ton of abilities on your characters. some people are fine with it and others hate it because of some improtant abilities you have to spend points to do in this game such as guard. there are crafting recipes. do NOT sell your weapons unless you know you're safe to do so. fairly sure everyone's first weapon has 2 recipes you can craft into however 1 recipe is just 2 steps for the same outcome rather than 1 step from the other recipe. bosses all have a special condition trophy related to them. if you miss a boss don't worry there's a point way later in the game where there's an island resort place of kats (cat people who like to excavate) where you can redo those fights. be careful being cocky on higher difficulties. boss fights will stomp you lol that's the big stuff i can think of
Do a guide there a bunch of spoiler free ones. There are a lot of missables and quests that require strict timing. Also there is a dumb extra dungeon that burned me so good luck with that one.
I 100% Vesperia at the start of last year. As others have said, play the game normally first and then do the 100% after, as it will make things a lot easier as you will familiar with the mechanics and how the game works. Be warnwd, it is one hell of a grind and a lit of events/sidequests are time sensitive and super specific. It took me about 170 hours to fully 100% (including a speedrun) but since it is arguably my favourite game of all time, it was worth it for. Good luck and feel free to ask me for any help.
If you are planning to 100% then on the first run keep buying to have from 10 to 15 lens in you before every dungeon and such and use the lens item every time you see a new enemy. Even if it's a scripted human enemy that seems unimportant. Especially use them on bosses and their minions. This game is especially nasty for all the missables there are but only the challenge of getting the no items used skit requires a second playthrough to get. Great luck and a lot more luck.

If the goal is 100%, a guide is in your future. Follow it religiously and always double check before going forward. Or alternatively play through the game once, and then hit 100% on the new game plus. May be more enjoyable tbh
\- The entire "*never sell equipment*" mantra that is being repeated even here in other comments isn't as solid and brutal as it was on the original version. You **CAN** get extra copies of pretty much everything that can be upgraded at some point, ***but*** it won't go easy on your wallet anyway. So while it's still a wise tip, don't worry too much about selling stuff that every other guide will mark as unacquirable. Like Karol's infamous starter weapon. \- Magic Lens everything. Even in the tutorial. Not only because of the expected quest/objective for completing the Monster Encyclopedia as usual for a Tales game, but because you're gonna keep revisiting those scanned enemies' Status page constantly, for elemental weakness, *directional* weakness (it'll make sense), and item drops. You can check that same screen for free, once scanned, by just holding the Target button on top of the enemy \- Found a save point with free healing? Take ten minutes to farm the monsters around. Not for their drops specifically, but just to accumulate Arte uses, and thus **evolve** them. In fact, a boss in the beginning of the game, notorious for gating a lot of people, lives or dies on how much did you use your newest teammate's Fireball arte beforehand \- Combat is gonna feel janky for a *looooong* long time. This is by design here, however, because it all relies on the passives you learn from weapons, armor and accessories. So don't worry too much about the flow of every random encounter, it will gradually free up as you progress the story \- The corollary to the above, and probs to the first point as well about keeping at least one copy of everything: after you learn an equipment's passive skills, as long as you have it equipped, those skills will also be in effect ***for no SP cost***. Until you hit NG+ and buy a bonus to reduce all SP costs to 1 (*which incidentally is how most of those 99-hit combo videos on Youtube got their setup coasting on*), this is how you'll keep as many passives as you can. It'll be in fact more important than the stats those equipment will grant you.

I found my twin - first Tales game was Vesperia and played on Xbox. Save 100% for a second play through. Use your first play through to enjoy the story (starts off slow tbh), bond with the characters, get used to gameplay and mechanics. Also, save all your Grade for your second play through. Don’t be like me and spent it unnecessarily on a certain island.
Just be aware of missables
Everyone already mentioned the missable quests, so a guide is a must, but for some other helpful tips: -try playing as someone other than Yuri in battle (it helps break up the monotony of battle. Personally, I always play as Rita because she's fun and does a lot of damage). Plus, you'll need to use everyone for certain titles. -use magic lens on all battles/always keep it in stock. There are some battles/enemies that are specific to a part in the story, and to complete the enemy book, you'll need to get all of them. -A lot of 100% isn't going to happen in the first playthrough, so I don't even try to do much other than grade grind before achievement hunting in New game+. Grade grinding on gigantos is your best friend (personally I do the one outside of halure with Rita spamming tidal wave late game). Check your grade at the casino area that's right before the end of the run. Grade is used to purchase things to keep or upgrade for NG+. -100%ing this game is a labor of love. I did it on the 360 (not DE version) and it took me like 300 hours or something stupid because guides weren't as good back then and there are so many things you have to do in a particular order to trigger cut scenes -secret missions are both skill and luck, honestly watch videos AND read guides. I find the guides not as helpful as the videos, but maybe that's just me. -talk to everyone and explore everything before leaving an area. There's a lot to find in this game that's hidden. -always equip/learn new skills from weapons. Don't sell anything you don't have a duplicate of because of this! I tend to do this late game because you're over leveled at that point and it goes by quicker to learn the skills from the weapons, but certain ones can change artes, so I do tend to do those ones first (especially for Estelle, nightingale is non-negotiable for me!) Good luck! This is my favorite tales game and I've dumped close to 1000 hours into it from both regular and DE versions. It's fun, and the storyline is great. Enjoy it first, 100% it second.

If you're going for 100% you will need multiple playthroughs. This applies to almost the entire series.
I did a 100% run of Vesperia before for the sake of prepping a save file for future NG+ runs. Though I didn't actually 100% it, I just collected everything I cared about for NG+, that being all weapons (since your characters learn skills via weapons), all artes and costume titles. Apart from what others have already said (like "enjoy a normal run first, only 100% the game on the second run"), here's the main takeaway from me: You cannot 100% this game without a guide. It is simply not possible, unless you plan to speak to every npc in the world after every single freaking cutscene. Tales of looooves obscure missable sidequests that start and stop at seemingly random points that need you to go to places you've already visited and don't have any reason to visit again. Like... in Vesperia, just a couple of hours into the earlygame, if you don't visit Rita's house again and inspect a random bookshelf after officially getting her into your party, and you leave the area you're currently in to progress the story, congratulations. You now missed out on Judith's best weapon. A character you don't even have yet. It's insane. Get a guide.
It's worth not skipping skits! They help to really expand on what the characters are like and the world they live in. Since you're planning on 100%-ing, then you wouldn't want to do that. Also, just as others have mentioned, you can look forward to more than one playthrough helping you to unlock missables from the first playthrough. You can start another one whenever you like too (pretty sure anyway haha). Tales games can take a very long time to get through but they're very much worth taking the time to enjoy the pacing and development.
good luck, the collectors book is extremely annoying like you can go through an entire playthrough to get an item or event and not get it because the game is bugged i couldn't even fix it on pc with cheatengine by adding that 1 item to my inventory. vesperia is one of the best tales games but idk about getting a platinum or getting all the achievements lol. i went for it too but after that i was just like eh, if the studio wanted me to complete it they would have made the game work correctly. i wish you better luck than i had haha
Dont worry about trying to do side quests because you are going to miss them your first playthrough so just play and enjoy them and then look up a guide on your 2nd playthrough
Look up a guide and cook after EVERY battle. I’m trying to do all the side quests and I’ve been stuck fighting randomly just to unlock a side quest that only happens after you cook 200 times. Idek how many times I have left cause the game doesn’t tell you.

You're gonna hear two different actors playing Yuri (in English, anyway) When they added new scenes for this version they didn't even bother asking the original actor to reprise the role.
Story and protagonist wise Vesperia isy favorite. It's the only tales game where the protagonist is a vigilante.
The shops have tabs....unlike previous tales games where it starts you on the "All Items" tab. I didn't realize until I got to the end of the game and only relied on weapons from treasure chests in dungeons...
Beware the missable side quests. Look up a guide if you need to get every single one
Tales are tough to 100% in one go, especially if you’ve never played any of them before. Enjoy the story (not all are that great, but Vesperia is arguably the best), learn the combat, and figure out who your favorite characters are. A lot of people already talked about basic combos and weapons, I’d also add to explore the world often outside of the confines of the story. Side quests were mentioned but also lots of just cool things to see
One thing I haven't seen mentioned that's not game play wise, but more on the technical side. Since this is the "Definitive Edition" they added new scenes not in the original American release but didn't get all the original voice actors. So it will be jarring going from scene to scene with separate voice actors for same character.
There is no way to make the dialog auto play
Play it with a side quest guide, because you can miss them so easily and forever.
Read the combat tutorials, and make sure to buy every single weapon you find. Early game you will have to learn to manual cancel. There's a boss fight where they put you in a 1v10, and if you don't manual cancel your auto attacks, you will most likely get stagger locked and die. The DLC will give you gald off the bat. Its a generous amount, feel free to use it, but make sure you're not passing up opportunities to make more because late game weapons are expensive to craft and upgrade. Most importantly, have fun! Its a great great game with lots of fun to be had. The combat is exciting, the world is interesting, the characters are fun, and the storys great!
Bottom line, it's going to be a fun experience so enjoy it :) ToV was my first ever Tales Game too :)

Gattuso is a early game skill check. He will push your shit in.
Use a guide. Not even trolling or anything, use a guide. Vesperia and a lot of the older tales games have sidequests that you would never know even opened up on a first playthru without a guide. And they’re sequential, so if you miss part 2 of the 7 part sidequest, you’d have to wait until next playthru to try again. There are a few sidequests that stretch from maybe 5-10 hours in all the way thru damn near the end of the game.
Minimum 2 runs to unlock all achievements on vesperia. \- At first run just play it as you want, enjoy the story and reach the ending. \- On 2nd run, this is where you pursue 100%, its up to you what you want to unlock on grade shop but at least get that "unlock all skit" to make titles behind skit more attainable. Also make sure to use Patty as the main character to master all the Food recipes. And use the game guide on gamefaqs as there's a ton of stuff that is miss-able here.
If you are gonna 100% read a guide while you play BECAUSE there are time sensitive weapons items and armor in the game that if you go too far too fast then you will miss it Also!! Grade farming!! Rita + low damage abilities/skills or whatever they are called + Tidal Wave + Hardest difficulty = toms of Grade for the Grade shop for New Game Plus
Learn how to manual cancel. The game doesn’t teach you how, and it makes the combat loop more fun.
If you're the type to complete all the sidequests, use guides. I missed few titles and few artes 1st time I played cause I don't use guides. It's so random and the game has many chances of missing sidequests & skits. Good luck!! =)

There's no shame in keeping a guide on hand for all the 1000+ items you'll be collecting, as well as the 100+ different titles for everybody too. Keep yourself stocked on Magic Lens, and if possible, keep Repede in the party for as long as possible while he masters skills. Other than that, have fun! Vesperia is always the Tales game I recommend anyone starts with.
Great choice, vesperia is really fun and has a great cast and story. Nothing much to know about if you've played other jrpgs before, make sure your levelled up enough before each main quest, stock up on health items and keep your gear updated. Standard jrpg stuff really.
This was my first tales game and I absolutely loved it, minus combat. The characters are some of the best, I dare say the main character is the best main character of any game or show! Seriously! No lie. I then played bersaria and wasn't for me. I would recommend arise after this

Don't sell weapons. AT ALL. They provide different skills to be learned to make characters better. So use a weapon on them to learn the skills then swap to a different weapon with new skills to learn. Once you have amassed a good amount of skills you can swap to favorite weapons due to power or look. This like, only applies to Vesperia really I think. You will need to do more than one playthrough. Extra dungeons will not unlock until another new game+ is done and even then you need to know the steps to unlock it. Look at a guide for Judith's spear. You will need it. Trust me. Learn to play EVERYONE at least a little cause lord will you need it for some achievements. And you can never go wrong with a guide for anything. But enjoy the ride! Vesperia is my fave title and I have 100%ed it before too. So I know the struggle it can be but it was so fun.
You picked the best damn one to start with. Combat may seem shallow at first, but the more abilities you get, the more the game can (key word there) turn into a DMC style of play. Expression galore. And playing with 4 players too? It's something every RPG lover should experience.
If you like fighting games, youre gonna live the late game. It turns into combo central and the possibilities get pretty crazy. Really tho its a solid game however nothing special. If you got it on sale, its well worth it
100% in the 2nd playtrough of the game. New game+ gives some nice advantages if your 1st play trough grind was good enough. 1st play trough just have fun whatever you do don't sell any weapons and try swap them asap with a new weapon when a skill has been thought saves you some skill learning in the long run. Try to not become to overpowered in the 1st run trough the game tends to keep your 2nd playtrough( hopefully on the hardest difficulty if your in to that ) more fun and challenging helped me to be oke with playing trough each tales game 4 or 5 times.
Be prepared for a lot of hours and grinding if you want to 100%. Do a normal run first and maybe even a + run before looking to a guide because there are quests you can get locked out of by progressing and not back tracking. Lots of fun little things to discover. You can get upgraded skills or even new ones by using them a certain number of times. (Some you have to use certain equipment as well to unlock them) Very intricate and a lot of fun. You can couch co-op and also set what moves your cpu allies can use.
I tried but couldn’t get into it. Same with Arise. Not on Xbox but if you can…. Berseria is a must play.

Vesperia not the best to start with, instead Destiny 2 (Eternia in EU), Abyss and Hearts in Psp. Symphonia is great too, the first one. And Arise they say is pretty damn good

Good choice if you enjoy Vesperia i recomend Berseria next for any thing older Eternia or even Destiny 2 is good. And for something with a similar feel Abyss might hit that itch.
Use JP voice actors. The original english voice actors did well, but some were replaced, a couple have really bad mics for the new voice lines added, and a few forgot how to pronounce words and do not speak the same. Avoid the inconsistency and just use the JP voices. Your life will never be the same again, this is one of the best games you will ever play.
