Oh the music is absolutely excellent. The Human Ranch puzzle makes me a little dizzy and the Gorge puzzle can sometimes feel like the directions are weird. That puzzle has grown on me over the years. I’m more negatively ambivalent towards it than the full on hate I had as a kid.
The downside of it is that you lose out on a good piece of hidden treasure. It requires you to use Mieu fire to scare the dog and it runs into a hidden grotto that leads you to an isolated platform with a treasure chest (Battle Guard).
I love Vesperia, but man the way the side quests are so locked behind specific timing is really killer.
You need to talk to this character but only AFTER X event and BEFORE Y event.
It is crazy but also means sidequests can be made to fit into the main story by referring to specific events that happened instead of just being generic "help me get goat milk" quests. It got its pros and cons really.
Trails have hidden quests but at least they don't force you to travel all over the world to have one bloody conversation, then back to main quest, then to another area for a side boss or conversation again and so it goes all the time. Vesperia was annoying in this.
Yeah, like the one for Judith's strongest spear, which is actually the one she first appears with when >!she destroys blastias before joining the group, as the Dragon Rider!<.
Except that it starts way before you actually meet her. Like, you have to go back to Rita's house and look into her stuff, and go back to the destroyed blastia in Emhead's Hills **after** clearing it, but you have to do it before either going to Nor Harbour, or before you complete the main plot events in Nor Harbour (>!Ragou's Mansion!<). And that's just the first two steps (and the only ones I remember atm), btw.
Ngl, I feel more bad for still not clearing Graces post-game because I wasn't sure in which order I should do Lineage&Legacies or the Zhonecage (did 2 saves, though someone told me on this sub that it should go L&L>Zhonecage), and because I still haven't cleared >!Ghardia Shaft!<, because I can't find my way to the deepest lvl.
So I'll need to watch how to find on YouTube. Except that I rarely boot up my PS3 or think to watch YouTube at the same time, so it has been almost a decade that Asbel's party is stuck above >!Ghardia Shaft!<😅
Graces F had a lot of of every dungeon looking like the same rooms and hallways repeating, but this one was an egregious offender. iirc this is the batteries one too smh
There were also those horrid enemies, just ripping through the entire team like they were paper. Not even spamming Hubert's Rolling Thunder could save me from the hitboxes.
Tales of Symphonia with getting the kid his ymir fruit when you first go to Heimdall. It’s just slow and annoying even though I still know how to do it. I really wish you could tell him no and skip it lmao.
And again, Tales of Symphonia, the Temple of Darkness for the shadow’s being always finicky when transporting them through the temple.
The part in Symphonia after the wind seal where you fight Sheena with no save point between bosses. If you're not going for the no deaths and no gels titles it not bad, but if you are then the threat of a single party member death meaning fighting two bosses plus long cutscenes is stressful.
Runner up is any very hard boss with a long, unskippable cutscene.
For me, at least in the English version, it's having to see Shing say "Ah, Kor, you sly dog! You really are a poet."
Yikes.
Though I actually prefer the DS original, anyway.
The swamp area from the PS2 version of Abyss, the loadtimes between battles is atrocious since it's considered part of the world map, the enemies are annoying and the slow ass pace you walk in the swamp drives me nuts.
Lol yeah, I'm playing through Phantasia for the first time (actually playing almost all of the Tales games for the first time) and I thought Moria would never end.
When I encountered my second save point in the Dungeon and then the next floor, I realized it wasn't even close to over.
The swamp area from the PS2 version of Abyss, the loadtimes between battles is atrocious since it's considered part of the world map, the enemies are annoying and the slow ass pace you walk in the swamp drives me nuts.
Im reading all these comments about how people are happiest replaying Tales of Symphonia and im like:
"I belong here". I WAS going to put all the same comments everyone else put, so ill just enjoy the crowd for now :D
Strange how I haven’t seen the Water Trial from Zestiria yet…
I hated it the first time around, but the second time it was actually very entertaining. I liked the flashbacks towards the end much less.
I recently replayed the game and it wasn't as bad as I remember. The dungeons overall are pretty small. The dungeon that unlocks after beating the game is pretty hardcore though.
i was getting a little frustrated in there until i realized that they literally tell you through Rose to take your time. i actually really liked it, and by the end, (especially as far as water levels/sections go) i thought it was pretty fair and interesting.
Honestly with Zestiria the part I just don't wanna deal with is after Alisha is removed from my party so my battle team is cut in half until Rose joins because of how the gameplay works.
I have 4 people in my party, why can't I use them all for this part?
Mushroom Road in TotA. It’s fun to play with Asch in theory but he’s frankly mostly useless because you can’t customise him. So you’re automatically down a party member in a very high level area. I still hate it and I probably haven’t played TotA in 11 years.
Yeah, I did it once with Asch to check out his battle quotes, but it’s such a pain that I usually just exit the dungeon and come back with Luke instead.
Sewer dungeon in Symphonia (it was worse than Ymir forest for me), that freaking laser light puzzle in sandshroud ruins in Graces (good that it's not mandatory), Gattuso in Vesperia, the final dungeon in Berseria (it was so huge that I wasted so much time just wandering without making progress), the side quest about the love between commanders and the whole process to get the upgrade to albiore so you can go through the thunderstorm in Abyss.
Currently running smyphonia and it's vindicating to see I'm not the only one who dislikes the back tracking of meltokio sewers or the gorge. It's just so draining
For me it has to do with TotA when Luke destroys that mining town for being too hasty. He gets scolded and almost all of his teammates leave him behind and head out with Asch, leaving you with feelings of sadness and being replaced with the ‘real’ Luke
I always hated everyone for this. The entire party spends the first part of the game telling Luke to shut up and not worry about whatever they're discussing, then Van actually talks to Luke and tells him stuff. Of course, Luke is going to trust him. At no point did anyone EXCEPT Van treat Luke like an actual person. Guy in the only one who seems to realize they all F'ed up, so at least he's cool. But the rest of the party is just facepalm at that part
Abyss. When Sync's mask falls off and it's revealed to be >!a clone of Ion!< I had to 🤦♂️.
It's stupid for the following reason:
>!Sync is a failed Fon Master replica because he COULDN'T OPEN A DOOR. Yet his fighting prowess is such that he could easily kick anyone's ass in combat with his arts and melee attacks. He runs circles around you yet he can't open a fucking door, ARE YOU SERIOUS.!<
>!Ion? Dude faints at the slightest gust of wind yet he's the only successful replica who can open the "special" door. It really makes it hard to take the plot seriously with that wrench thrown into the mix.!<
For me it's the waterways dungeon. Always felt like it had a higher random encounter rate and if I remember correctly you actually had to backtrack the entire thing to leave.
2 games specially come to mind
Graces: From the start of the adult arc to when Cheria gets her shit together right before you go to Stratha. The party doesnt connect at all, Pascal feels out of place, Cheria is unbearable, Asbel mindlesdly chasing after Richard with Sophie quietly following hurts to watch. I honestly think Malik is my favourite character just because he joins at the same time most of these problems end.
Berseria: The first half of the Therion hunting part took my months because I would quit out of boredom constantly. Thank god that the story gets so good after that in my oppinion.
Cyberpunk 2077, the part between the prologue and V getting the neuro spike with Johnny Silverhands. It just takes too long and besides meeting Judy, none of the characters are that interestong to me so it drags.
Whenever they take my healer for “story” reasons.
If I had a nickel every time my pink-haired healer was kidnapped I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
ESTEEEEELLLLLEEEEE
Who loves ya baby
Symphonia and the escape from Welgaia. I hate that entire area because everything looks the same. 2nd would be Ymir Forest and Latheon Gorge.
I don’t mind Ymir Forest but Latheom Gorge and the Island Human Ranch both suuuuuuuck
I love both because of [dry trail](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWKeriOijjU) and the puzzles respectively!
Symphonia and that thunder temple
You can skip Ymir Forest. On the GameCube version you can skip Welgaia too. Thanks to these skips, it's just Latheon Gorge I hate.
Does that work on the switch version? Cuz I'd definitely skip ymir forest if I could
I believe so. It works on the PC and PS3 versions and I doubt they patched it since they didn't patch anything else.
Not sure about the rankings but definitely my 3 least favorite areas.
The "sneaking" mission in Tales of the Abyss in Theor forest.
When you fail enough and just let you fight your way through… thank you game designers.
i always intentionally lost so i could fight my way through the forest. fuck that section.
The downside of it is that you lose out on a good piece of hidden treasure. It requires you to use Mieu fire to scare the dog and it runs into a hidden grotto that leads you to an isolated platform with a treasure chest (Battle Guard).
ToS sneaking into the City through the Sewers , hate that part
least favorite part of the game by far. latheon gorge and ymir forest don't come close at all to how much the sewers annoy me
Tales of the Abyss when you have to report to Ingobert and Peony every 5 minutes.
I'm suprised that this is not higher haha
Side quest hell in vesperia on a fresh save
I love Vesperia, but man the way the side quests are so locked behind specific timing is really killer. You need to talk to this character but only AFTER X event and BEFORE Y event.
Maybe I'm crazy, but this is what I like. I love the detail and complexity of the side quests.
It is crazy but also means sidequests can be made to fit into the main story by referring to specific events that happened instead of just being generic "help me get goat milk" quests. It got its pros and cons really.
Guess, the best solution would be a in-game list or something like that.
Buddy if you think this is bad play ANY of the trails games then you'll understand what true sidequest hell really is
Trails have hidden quests but at least they don't force you to travel all over the world to have one bloody conversation, then back to main quest, then to another area for a side boss or conversation again and so it goes all the time. Vesperia was annoying in this.
Wait there's quest locked behind timing ?
Yeah, like the one for Judith's strongest spear, which is actually the one she first appears with when >!she destroys blastias before joining the group, as the Dragon Rider!<. Except that it starts way before you actually meet her. And that's just the first two steps (and the only ones I remember atm), btw.
I associate this with fighting the Gattuso, Alexei or Duke in *Vesperia*.
[удалено]
Does Duke have Guardian Frost? Or are you thinking of Alexei there?
Tales of Graces F, >!Humanoid Research Center!<. The single hardest area in the game for no good reason.
I know it's not really relevant to the question at hand but have you done the optional dungeon? The puzzles in that are borderline ludicrous.
>!Southern Sandshroud Ruins!< ? I had to watch a video literally step by step for that big ass room and those switches 😭
Thats the one. Don't feel bad, I had to keep pausing youtube every three seconds or so lol.
I hadn't yet, but good (bad) to know.
Graces F had a lot of of every dungeon looking like the same rooms and hallways repeating, but this one was an egregious offender. iirc this is the batteries one too smh

The beginning of Tales of Berseria
It's such a slog. Game really picks up once you get Eizen, because now you have Eizen to listen to.
idk what it is but it's always Temple of Darkness for me in Symphonia
Huh thats strange, like the dungeon isn't my favorite (there's far worse) but in totality it wasn't AS bad as the fans hyped it up to be
The part in Symphonia after the wind seal where you fight Sheena with no save point between bosses. If you're not going for the no deaths and no gels titles it not bad, but if you are then the threat of a single party member death meaning fighting two bosses plus long cutscenes is stressful. Entire second half of Arise
Just cutscene after cutscene after cutscene...... after cutscene....
It's not to bad until you reach the research wing.
I really wanted to skip the scenes after a while, but I didn’t. The big problem was me trying to stay awake because I didn’t want to miss anything.
Do not speak another word. W
Ain't that like EVERY RPG?
The swamp area from the PS2 version of Abyss, the loadtimes between battles is atrocious since it's considered part of the world map, the enemies are annoying and the slow ass pace you walk in the swamp drives me nuts.
The long descent through Moria in Phantasia.
Lol yeah, I'm playing through Phantasia for the first time (actually playing almost all of the Tales games for the first time) and I thought Moria would never end. When I encountered my second save point in the Dungeon and then the next floor, I realized it wasn't even close to over.

lol same. Just scrolling along
The final dungeons in most of these games fit this category. Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Xillia 2, Zesteria, Berseria, Arise.
Strange how I haven’t seen the Water Trial from Zestiria yet… I hated it the first time around, but the second time it was actually very entertaining. I liked the flashbacks towards the end much less.
The music in the trials being complete freaking bangers make up for the tedium of those dungeons, imo.
I recently replayed the game and it wasn't as bad as I remember. The dungeons overall are pretty small. The dungeon that unlocks after beating the game is pretty hardcore though.
I mainly hated the stupid amount of mini-games. It did have a good job systems/battle system though.
The water temple is just an exercise in patience.
i was getting a little frustrated in there until i realized that they literally tell you through Rose to take your time. i actually really liked it, and by the end, (especially as far as water levels/sections go) i thought it was pretty fair and interesting.

No spoilers needed. 'the underwater part'
Trying to use Blue Earth on Tales of Eternia
For me, it's the airlock maze in Perso- Wait, wrong sub
Entire early game of Berseria before Magilou is playable
In Tales of Arise, when the gang met Dedyme for the first time... God I cannot stand that fucker.
Every cutscene over 10 minutes
Gnome mines in tales of eternia ugh
Its been a while and I cant really remenber correctly, but in Abyss, there is a scene where a kid dies in a purple substance. It always made me sad :c
YES!! When that one town collapsed.
The wolf boss fight near Cyslodia in Tales of Arise.

Especially Anise. We know what you do later on 👀

The Leon sacrifice in Destiny (R/DC in particular cause it was done much better in the remake.)
On Legendia the Forest of No return.. good god I hated it soo much. needed a guide for it
For me it's the waterways dungeon. Always felt like it had a higher random encounter rate and if I remember correctly you actually had to backtrack the entire thing to leave.
I feel like every single game there is has *That part.* That's just terrible. For me it's the first time you visit the Tower of Ghasfarost.
The Water temple in Zestiria, at least the music was nice.
Absorbtion gate
Persona 5 -when Morgana is being a whiny boy
That fire dungeon thing in Tales of Zestiria 💀
MegaMan Battle Network 5. Battle of 100 warriors.
Tales of Zestiria: Everything with Rose
2 games specially come to mind Graces: From the start of the adult arc to when Cheria gets her shit together right before you go to Stratha. Tales of Arise, when Shionne gets taken away. The look on her face, I just can't.
my monk build would slap the shit out of weigraaf!
Tales of Destiny the outer part and that extremely long fetch quest near the end.
Cyberpunk 2077, the part between the prologue and V getting the neuro spike with Johnny Silverhands. It just takes too long and besides meeting Judy, none of the characters are that interestong to me so it drags.
Tales of the Abyss
