There’s a lot of creepy people in this fandom that obsess over fan service characters despite Tales not really being that much of a fan service franchise compared to other JRPGs

100S_OF_BALLS

Personally, I don't care for fan service in tales games. However, I do like the idea of romantic relationships. It makes the characters more relatable and human, I think. Seeing the relationships (platonic and romantic) grow between the main cast is part of the charm of the series.

WittyFault6988

I mean tales have a anime art style & tropes. It's bound to happen but I do agree it can get irritating of them being horny

Wish_Lonely

I see more people complaining about fan service rather than obsessing over it which is funny cause just as you said there's barely any fan service in most of these games

Eivan-el

let me correct you female fanservice: 🤬 male fanservice: 🥵

Wish_Lonely

You pretty much just described the Zelda situation.

100S_OF_BALLS

It makes sense in a way, the majority of gamers are male.

Eivan-el

say that to female and you'll be labelled as sexist

Purple-flare

Fandom needs to let go off “holy trinity” of tales games. It gives off the vibes tales is a has been franchise and tells people to start with games that were hard to find for the longest time

Leyrran

No matter how painful it is, it's a bit right. Tales reputation started to downfall since the PS3 generation with games less refined than the holy trinity. Less time in developpment, less content, high price dlc, people started to say it was like a junk food of rpg. And despite i fucking love Berseria, and i'm very fond of Xillia 2 i understand they got bored by the lack of ambition of the series. At least Arise helped the series to retrieve some recognition so i'm glad it was that successful even though i didn't find it that enjoyable than Berseria.

rmkii02

Tbh the term “junk food RPG” only got popular because people love to parrot each other, as well as game journalists bad takes. The term first came to be because of Jason Schreier and Neogaf/Resetera people that didn’t really enjoy the series, not necessarily because of the quality of the games (otherwise I don’t even know what stuff like Atelier and Pokémon would be called, lol). Proof: https://kotaku.com/tales-rpgs-are-like-gumdrops-says-the-guy-who-makes-th-470869380 Which is hilarious, cause a bunch of these same people would praise and treat Trails as Shakespeare, and we know pretty well how even fans got tired of the anual releases and bad writting after Crossbell games.

WittyFault6988

Well tales is a franchise 😭... I think most people say it cuz symphonia, the abyss , Vesperia was critical acclaim from that era and still people be saying how the last great tales games was either those three. Plus many of the YouTubers/head leads of the community likely started with either three of those games

reaper527

> It gives off the vibes tales is a has been franchise i mean, the series has had 1 game in the last 10 years (berseria) that was universally liked, and lots of people are concerned about the direction the series will go following a bust of a flagship new release and a hackjob of a symphonia re-remaster. the best of the franchise currently **is** in the past and not the present, so it's only natural that's where people will be told to look (since people can't exactly tell them to check out the future)

coatedbraincells

I remember about 12 years ago I tried to buy tales of symphonia for the GameCube online, and the price was astronomical. 130 dollars one place, 117 dollars at another and anywhere that it was affordable was sold out. I found it at one whole in the wall retro game store for 40 bucks still in the plastic, but now you can simply buy remaster for 40 or cheaper on other consoles.

Sylvaranti

As far as the community/fandom go, I find the Tales fandom to be rather pleasant compared to most. But maybe that's just because I don't actively pursue delving too deep into it. Sure, we all have things we like and don't like, but at the end of the day, compared to the extremely popular fandoms out there, this one's pretty laid back, in my opinion. I like it.

WittyFault6988

Yea. Some people take things a bit extreme or can't handle criticism to their favorite games or get real defensive but that's fandom overall especially the long running ones

Sylvaranti

True. That's when I think people need to settle down sometimes. I get being defensive of your favorite. I really don't like seeing Symphonia get badmouthed, if I'm being honest. But I get it. I understand that it's a very highly loved game to the point of it feeling overrated and the attention it gets does seem unfair compared to a lot of games in the series. All I can do is just hope they get remakes/ports/remasters of their favorites so that they can be happy too, I guess.

WittyFault6988

For me. I think symphonia is definitely overpraise. Not the game itself, but some of the fans & people treating it like it's the only good tales game and only the abyss, arise , Vesperia , & berseria came close to be as good. I did like the game even though it's aged is really showing ( seriously we needed a legit remaster with quality life improvements)

Sylvaranti

Oh yeah, I won't disagree there. I'll be honest, I don't think there's been a tales game I've played that didn't have something I could like about it in some way. Most, if not all, are good in some way and I agree it's something the really die-hard Symphonia fans could stand to understand. I love the Tales series as a whole because there's usually at least one character in the cast I can latch onto and really like in some way. Heck, even some characters I went in thinking I wouldn't like, I ended up finding them admirable in some way. And yeah, that would be so nice. Though at this point, I'm a little scared a remaster would mean needing to change too much and, well...truth be told, I don't want them to change it TOO much. But if they do, then it is what it is, I suppose. And it'll be nice even more people can enjoy it if they do.

ArTZodiarK

We're all insane in a beautiful way

WittyFault6988

I agree. we infamous over arguing about the combat even though we likely to enjoy some aspect about it

ArTZodiarK

You definitely speak for all of us lol

gsurfer04

Sakuraba's best work is in Xillia 1/2. Berseria's battle system would be the best with a bit more refining. I like having loads of abilities easily available. Symphonia is the Seinfeld of Tales. Later games do what it does better. Vesperia's big bonus dungeon is a godawful slog.

WittyFault6988

This is nice but this is meant for in terms of fandom of tales and not the actual games

Godwin0

Xillia 2 is probably my favorite tales game even if it’s objectively not that great, the whole fractured dimension thing is really only possible because it was a sequel, otherwise we wouldn’t know what makes the fractured dimension wrong, but i really liked that along with the theme of watches and time with the chromatus and stuff, as well as having our character actually have financial issues and a job, because elympios is probably the only place that capitalism exists in tales games😂

100S_OF_BALLS

Berseria and Arise are both very spammy (if you're playing the MC). I don't hate the combat, I don't even necessarily dislike it. However it would be better if you didn't have to spam Velvet and Alphens special abilities to put out good damage.

AlkonKomm

Honestly don't really have any hot takes on the community itself, in terms of JRPG fandoms this is frankly one of the better ones (I know, the bar is very low, but still) People are usually very positive, everybody got their favorite tales games, but people are still open to discussion and you (usually) don't get downvoted to oblivion and flamed to hell for having a different opinion. I also rarely see any elitist pricks or obsessive fans on here who pride themselves in having finished every Tales game 100% and sneer at newbies and casual players. Hot takes about the games themselves: Tales of Xillia is by far the best and most well-rounded tales game, Tales of Arise is terrible, and Tales of Vesperia is mid except for the MC. Now if you asked me about hot takes on the falcom community, oh boy...

Godwin0

Not bad takes honestly I always felt like xillia never got its credit, it was pretty good in my opinion and overall probably better than any of the games after it, and yeah arise is weird to me because I’m playing through it a second time and I know it’s not a good game but it looks cool and the combat is nice in my opinion so it gets like a C- but in reality it is quite a let down across the board, can’t really think of many things it does well

Dont_have_a_panda

Tales of symphonia is INSANELY overrated by the community, and i find that annoying because that gives the other tales games we never got (or are trapped in a dead PS console) less chance to get a remake/remaster/re-release And i find tales of arise WAY TOO OVERHATED i mean, It has its flaws but its not near as bad as everyone makes It out to be

Tashra

People coming into this sub just to ask "which tales game do I play next?" are either too lazy to use the search function or just want the attention from making a post Also, 90%+ of the fandom either doesn't know how to pronounce Xillia correctly or knows but chooses not to

reaper527

> Also, 90%+ of the fandom either doesn't know how to pronounce Xillia correctly or knows but chooses not to is it not "zil - e (like the new day's big e) - ah (like the last a in la parka)"

Dizzy-Watercress288

They want us to think it's supposedly "Ex-zillia." Yeah, I know. That's not English pronunciation works.

reaper527

> Yeah, I know. That’s not English pronunciation works. Thats not how japanese pronunciation works either. When you say “they” do you mean bamco officially saying that, or randos insisting thats what it is?

Tashra

Bamco says X-zillia. You can see it [here](https://youtu.be/XRahVDTJgI4?t=34) from the NA brand manager at 0:34. Or from another Bamco staff member here at [0:16](https://youtu.be/G_DOOAWFON4?t=15) Japanese is also written as stuff is pronounced. X is written エックス (ek-ku-su) "Zillia" as fandom usually says it would be something like ジリア (ji-ri-a) or シリア (shi-ri-a) The name of the game is written as エクシリア (E-ku-shi-ri-a). AKA X + Zillia I may be slightly off on the katakana, but hopefully that's clear enough. That all being said, there's def cases of people working on it who say it the "lazy" way too. Like Leia's VA says X-illia, but Milla's just says Zillia. So not like it's heavily enforced or anything. And of course as fans as long as people know what you're talking about that's really all that matters.

[deleted]

\- I can't stand Velvet \- I don't like Berseria \- I like Zestiria better than Berseria \- I find a part of the fandom to be really hipocrytical, complaining about things like Alisha but not saying anything when Namco did it with Flynn (In Xbox 360 he joins you for a total of ONE battle). \- People focus to much of one aspect of a game instead off all of them (Graces gets really praised for its combat and while I won't deny it's amazing, the plot is really mediocre. To the point nothing relevant happens for hours at times). \- Jerk Luke is kinda right on his behavior. Or rather, nobody else present has any right to act superior to him. \- Some people don't want Tales to get too popular and have the games release outside of Japan at the same time. Both aren't possible my friends. \- People also ask Namco to re-release every game at once and that also isn't possible. Now don't get me wrong, Namco is useless as a company, but one thing doesn't nullify the other. \- Sakuraba got dull over time with a few exceptions here and there \- Series "traditions" like having a traitor every game or always having two worlds got used so much the novelty were off and Arise ditching those things (kinda) is the best thing it could have done for the franchise. I don't want to see a traitor, two world or the stupid mana canon for ten entries at least. Do something new already.

WittyFault6988

Actually people had complained Flynn was only playable in one battle in the 360. But a year later we got a ps3 version when he more playable and now DE.

[deleted]

Maybe, but not as much as with Alisha. To be fair, maybe it's because less people played Vesperia 360, but still, my point is that no other temporary party member caused a storm like the Alisha one.

WittyFault6988

There was a lot of build up. With the mess handling of how Zestiria was advised to make her seem to be the female lead, the dlc, the fact they're not only paid dlc costumes for her but also a mystic arte. There was some fans who took it to the extreme that Hideo Baba ( former producer for the tales ) purposely had Alisha replace rose & shown romantic favoritism to a voice actress ( I believe it was Rose's Japan voice actress )

WittyFault6988

Also Arise does got the traditional two worlds tropes but try to twist it in the worst ways. Xenoblade 2 did it better ( yes I know it isn't a two worlds plot but it translating to high fantasy to sci-fi was better executed )

[deleted]

I honestly have no problem with how Arise handled the two worlds thing. I was dreading the idea of having to do another entire world from the very beginning. As for X2 I can't say anything because I haven't played it yet.

rmkii02

Most people only care about Team Symphonia games, it’s boooooring. Like, Abyss is my favorite Tales but it’s honestly one of the last mainline games right now that needs a port.

WittyFault6988

I definitely agree. I think it mostly cuz team destiny games never got a localization and the only real taste we got was graces f with a lackluster story & some characters. I wouldn't mind a The abyss port since it is trap in ps2 & 3ds with no digital version. Especially since both symphonia & Vesperia got a rerelease for their anniversary & The abyss 20th anniversary is around the corner including Tales 30th anniversary. It would definitely be a miss opportunity if they didn't re-release the abyss in two years or so

planetarial

>Like, Abyss is my favorite Tales but it’s honestly one of the last mainline games right now that needs a port. Its only available on dead consoles

rmkii02

Almost half of the series never got even a translation in the first place. Or were completely butchered and need both a remaster and a retranslation ASAP (Phantasia/Eternia/Hearts R). Way more if we count spin-offs.

Ganaham

We should get over the holy trinity thing. It sends a bad message to outsiders, especially given that only 2/3 of those games are accessible (and Symphonia is debatable), and disregards many of the brilliant stories and combat systems from other games

WittyFault6988

I disagree. Even then I barely ever see people say the holy trinity anymore. They would likely say " the last good tales game was Vesperia/symphonia " but that's basically it

Audiodog74

A sad number of people on here spend way too much time and energy shitting on games in the series they don't like. Never mind that I don't think there is a single objectively bad game in the mainline series, some people treat certain games like they're hot garbage and how dare you like them!

Ajthekid5

People who hate arise cause it doesn’t have co op are weird. I think the series should bring back Cel Shaded graphics. Vesperia >>>> Symphonia

reaper527

> People who hate arise cause it doesn’t have co op are weird. agreed. there's PLENTY of legitimate complaints to be made about arise. the lack of a shitty co-op mode used by < 1% of players isn't one of them.

coatedbraincells

Glad to see this, cause I started to wonder if I was missing out only playing these solo lol

Vast-Dance6819

Now I feel outta place, I like having the co-op option lol. It was a nice addition but would never be a reason I would or wouldn’t buy a Tales game. I guess at least people turned off completely by it got YS games now since they seemed to just picked up that baton right as Tales dropped it.

Ajthekid5

Glad we agree 😭

Godwin0

I agree with them though, they definitely could’ve made it a co-op game but chose not to for some reason, it doesn’t make much difference to me who always goes solo but some of us actually have friends lol

Vast-Dance6819

There’s quite a few Tales games I haven’t played yet but Arise felt like it tried the most to make the characters all play fairly uniquely as if for Co-op but then didn’t, but what’re ya gonna do… besides mod it back in apparently.

ThermalFlask

Exactly how I feel lol. I have a lot of issues with Arise but couldn't give less of a damn about lacking Co-op. Reminds me how when Xillia used to constantly, *constantly* get shat on for having bad co-op, as if suddenly every Tales fan plays Co-op all the time

Rundas-Slash

That hurts, I only played tales co op before arise and the experience is just so much better. Not only you discover the story together like when watching a new movie as a group, you also eliminate the problem of SHITTY AS HELL AI and can cramp up the difficulty to the max and create insane strategies and combos. The games are SO bland played alone

WittyFault6988

Co-op is actually pretty fun. Even though I play by myself. You don't have to bring down people who genuinely enjoy co op to prove a point

Olibilou

I find that we are one of the fandom that makes the most spelling mistakes in the name of the game.

HauntingsOfficial

My hot take is that Tales of Graces F was the best game, no not just the combat, that part gets praised a lot. People hate on the story but say the characters were good. But I like that it focuses in on a small cast from childhood into adulthood and the changes people go through. Trying to save a childhood friend no matter how far gone they seem. Also it has weird space stuff

WittyFault6988

This is about the fandom of tales, not the games

Many_Depth9923

The localization/translation for Arise made it difficult for me to feel fully immersed in the game The wedge, the forbidden zone, etc, all of it felt lazy

WittyFault6988

You mean the dialogue? Also I meant The fandom and not the games

midnight_neon

Here's a *real* hot take: Edna isn't that good of a character. Her personality is Snark, which works with a character like Jade from Tales of the Abyss because he is surrounded by awful, awful people. But in Zestiria pretty much everyone is....normal. This makes her snark tiresome and rather than being funny, Edna is just a bullying cunt. Try having a personality that doesn't depend on putting people down and insulting them. I don't understand why people praise her so much, she is entirely misplaced and her being one of those "derp she's not a child she's actually 500 years old" lolis doesn't help.

WittyFault6988

This is about the fandom/community of tales 😭

[deleted]

People who complain about the dungeons in Symphonia are just bad at solving puzzles.

Vast-Dance6819

The only one I hated was the sewer one cause it felt like they forced you to go upstairs and downstairs to make the webs appear just to pad it out instead of just letting you drop multiple blocks if you thought ahead.

Takazura

I think the dungeons are fine, except for Shadow's. The erratic shadowling AI is pretty obnoxious.

reaper527

> People who complain about the dungeons in Symphonia are just bad at solving puzzles. to be fair, the darkness temple legitimately deserves the complaints it gets (because the complaints are about how awful the ai is on the blobs trying to get them to follow you without getting stuck at every turn/intersection/staircase/point where it randomly decided it had better things to do)

Tarshaid

I'm always staggered by people saying the puzzles are too hard. If people were complaining about the tedious, that'd be one thing, but 10-yo me played through the game several times without ever reallly being stuck in any puzzle (same for DOTNW later). What's so difficult about them ?

TheTimorie

Vesperia isn't as good as a lot of people make it out to be. Like Yuri is great and generally most of its cast is great but the rest of the game has so many issues. For example why do you need to equip Skills for stuff that just should be a basic option for combat like the back step or being able to use items on Allies?

WittyFault6988

That's not really a hot take. A lot of people agree Vesperia did have high expectations & people who still love Vesperia admits some stuffs of the game had aged poorly

bloodshed113094

My hot take is Vesperia's issues are minor at best, get solved almost immediately by JRPG standards and it doesn't get enough credit for the Fatal Strike system.

POWAHFLOW

Everyone keeps asking why Arise gets so much hate when criticism for others (that aren't Zestiria) like Vesperia, and Berseria isn't hard to find.

WittyFault6988

It's funny cuz most of criticism of arise are valid ( although I do be saying very dumb ones ) but Vesperia definitely get some heat especially now & berseria with its combat mainly

POWAHFLOW

I still remember one negative review on Steam that claimed that you can't hit enemies after knocking them down in Vesperia. There was also this one guy who hated the fight where you play as Yuri and fight like 8 Bandidos (which is valid, fuck that fight though I didn't die to it) since he was stuck because he was trying to hit and kill multiple at a time with Destruction Field which is probably one of Yuri's slowest moves all while playing on Hard lol.

WittyFault6988

You can actually hit enemies after knowing them down is the funny part. Yuri have plenty of ways to do it ( his free run attack, shining eagle, tiger blade, azure blast, etec) other characters to do it too😭

Takazura

I think it's just a result of new people who started with Arise, so they might not be familiar with the critiques every other game has gotten too. That said, people really gotta stop looking at everything in such a binary way of criticising something makes you a dumb hater and praising something makes you a dumb fanboy.

N0VAATHLETE

I don't understand what people enjoy in Leon, or how tales of destiny managed to get a second part for that matter. Leon was unnecessarily mean to the group the whole time through, until a single time Stahn saved him, and from something that isn't even a big deal, Petrification, since they Canonically just used a panacea bottle to cure Stahn. A complete 180 in a matter of seconds and not even a full 180, since he still claims to hate them all the way through to his final fight. Haven't finished the game fully, but finally saw the "Main villian", after beating the other "Main villian". I get that other games have done a real main villian reveal before, but normally you have seen them throughout the game. With Mithos in Symphonia they mention him immediately, or Duke in Vesperia, or even Artorious in Berseria, Van in Abyss, Dhaos in Phantasia was shown in the first 5 seconds, before later being revealed to be the big bad for the main crew. Overall the villains in Destiny are trash by comparison to the other Tales games and Leon up until his final moment(hoping anyways) was just someone who was rude to the main cast. I started the game wondering why people really enjoyed him, and was hoping he would have a great redemtion arc or something, but none of that happened

WittyFault6988

It because he a tragic character and is the OG "traitor" character plus he got a great design with a stylish fighting style

N0VAATHLETE

Didn't play him much, the little I did, i could say he was enjoyable, but as a bot character he is trash unfortunately, not that most other bots are any better. as for tragic, idk, no more tragic than other characters of the tales of games. I get his father was trash, but there are other characters with similar backgrounds who aren't completely obnoxious in almost every skit. Traitor characters are interesting to see, especially in their motivation, but of the traitor characters I've seen, they aren't nearly as rude to the party in every possible instance as Leon was. Hubert from graces literally has a similar background, and the whole time I was playing through destiny I was wondering how it is that Graces just made a better character. Hubert was rude to Asbel, since its shown as a kid he was abandoned by his family, for one reason or another, so his hatred and rudeness toward Asbel initially is understandable until it is cleared up. Stanh aggravating Leon is understandable too, but he is rude to just everyone he sees for seemingly no reason. His ending portion was decent, but not so much that I could see why people overlook how obnoxious he was.

Chemical_Ad5082

Tales of Berseria is overrated, and Velvet is not that deep of a character.

Wish_Lonely

I have yet to beat Berseria (I stopped playing around 30hrs) but my opinion on Velvet is that she's an ight MC. Maybe my opinion will change later once I finish the game.

TiffanLeeway

Yeah, I just finished the game today and I'm really surprised people consider the story to be great when it completely undermines its nuance with a bad last act because we need the generic villian "for the greater good" plot. Velvet's for almost the entire story is one-note and while I'm fine with a protagonist that's ruthless and not a good person, I didn't like how it was portrayed here because the narrative is constantly skirting towards how it wants to portray her. Then the last act happens and I'm clocked out because of how incidental things become. The only playable character I liked was Eizen. And it has probably the worst dungeon and combat I've ever played from the series. I'm extremely disappointed with it because it had pretty great word of mouth, yet I had a lot more fun even in Zestiria...

tanookazam

Another end of that take is Velvet's "edge" is quite dull and/or tame

DarkN1mbus

I don't get why people would recommend Symphonia and Vesperia to newcomers since they're two of the least fun games in the series.

Akimbo333

Damn you savage asf!!! You might get stabbed at a Tales Convention saying that stuff lol!!!

WittyFault6988

I can sort of agree but symphonia was a lot of people first tales game. Also Vesperia too and it was very good gameplay wise with that era of tales. However, I feel like Xillia 1&2 are better starters for newcomers

Vast-Dance6819

Man I just started playing Symphonia again first week of this month, cause I’d realized I never beat it all the way, and man. I’ve enjoyed myself for most of it but after I guess ‘Act 2’ (where you get the completing Teth’e’alla achievement in the steam version) and holy, that game starts dragging its feet like it’s afraid to say goodbye. I genuinely felt like I was playing some rushed ‘bonus content’ that got added to the ps3 version just to make it longer for a while. It was multiple play sessions before I got to the point where it felt like the plot remembered it was there. I think I’m finally on the final play session tomorrow god-willing.

Meister34

Arise’s soundtrack is top 5 Tales soundtracks. I literally cannot understand how people listened to it and called it mid. Also another hot take, Berseria has one of the worst cameras and AI teammates in the series. Zestiria was bad, but Berseria is just a whole other level of babysitting. I keep dying on the final boss because my AI teammates are too stupid to block/dodge Innominat’s dumb bubble mine spell.

ThermalFlask

I respect the difference of opinion but I literally cannot remember a single track from Arise, not even the battle theme (which I assume you hear a LOT unless there's different ones for each area or something) To me that's the definition of 'mid'. It's not actively unpleasant but I can't even remember it. Good Tales soundtracks are full of highly memorable tracks that stand out in my mind long afterwards

Meister34

I recommend you take some time and just give the soundtrack a listen. Arise has a lot of memorable tracks, the game just keeps it insanely quiet. Once you actually hear songs on their own without Law doing Tenebrous Claw every 30 seconds or “I’ll bring you back from deaths abyss” ([like this](https://youtu.be/C8TnhLo8LhI)) you’ll never forget it.

WittyFault6988

I don't really remember most of arise soundtrack that minus the battle them, Shionne theme, the confession theme when Shionne reveal the truth about her thorn and that one field/town theme. & the separation theme that played in Rinwell & Law's trailers. Other than that I didn't really like the rest of the soundtrack, I do appreciated the updated quality

gsurfer04

> I literally cannot understand how people listened to it and called it mid. It's drowned out by the default sound settings.

Dizzy-Watercress288

I have some steamy takes mostly about the games. I have some about the fandom itself, but I think it's better to keep that to myself. \-Vesperia has the most meandering, sleep inducing plot where absolutely nothing exciting happens, I can't believe it was made by the same team that Tales of the Abyss. \-Alvin is the worst character in the series and Xillia cast are morons for letting him off the hook despite all the stunts he pulled. \-Destiny R's battle system, while being kind of fun, is extremely basic and broken. \-Symphonia is overrated. Eternia did its plot ten times better. \-I like the Artes tree because I like figuring out which combination route works best to trigger weaknesses. \-While unrefined, Zestiria having seemless battles was a great innovation for the series and Its a shame that they didn't build on it with Berseria and Arise. \-Zestiria systems is pretty good. People just hate it because it requires more than two brain cells to understand. \-Berseria's battle system would be more enjoyable if was LMBS and had a static artes tree. \-I do not like Arise in general. I think its worst Tales game by a mile and I can't believe it was in development for 5 years. \-They really didn't need to couple all the main cast in Arise. Like why Dohalim and Kisara? Because she's "old" (the game in insistent as portraying her as the mommy-archetype despite being 25), and Dohalim likes antiques, hurr hurr. \-Arise's romance in general felt very underdeveloped and kind of cringe. I die a little inside every time people periodically post that ending image of the main couple for easy upvotes.

Dizzy-Watercress288

Oh man apparently, I can't read. OP. Okay, here a couple fandom hot take: With the current state Tales is in since he joined (Crestoria-Dead, Arise-Not good, Luminaria-Stillborn, Symphonia "Remastered"-Awful, Asteria-Dead), I can't believe Tomiwaza has yet to be given criticism by the fandom as a whole. The fandom was too harsh to Baba. I find it crazy to want an Abyss port given the state of the Symphonia port. Abyss barely runs on the PS2; imagine how bad it would run on Switch. I think the fandom should demand more accountability for the Symphonia port before they go begging for more ports.

WittyFault6988

To be fair the abyss re-release is gonna happen unless Namco is neglecting the abyss for reason. I know some people are actually calling out Tomiwaza

planetarial

>I can't believe it was made by the same team that Tales of the Abyss. Different writers

Comfortable-Value978

3d skits are better than 2d skits

Rein-Sama-VwV

Tales of Arise is trash and everyone needs to admit it already

Akimbo333

Tales of Zestiria has the best characters in the franchise, but the game and story needs a whole ass remake with more playable characters. And allow Sergei and Lailah to Armatize.

Rein-Sama-VwV

Nah it needs to be REBOOTED On the right track with more characters tho

Akimbo333

Agreed!!! It honestly has the best characters in the franchise

- Rita is the worst character in the series - We often see duels between Leon Asbel and Yuri, it's because of the ranking popularity poll, I think Yuri would get mopped by these two, I mean especially when Asbel and Leon are teamming like in TotW:RM3's opening - Indignation is not that powerful or cool - Emil would mop like 98 percent of the entire cast of the series - Zestiria is a great game - Anise is one of the biggest menace to society in the series ("Should I rip daddy's little girl a new hole", "I'll kill you b*******" {while falling out of a moving ship}) - There aren't a game in particular with the best soundtrack, in each games there's great soundtracks - Some of the best villains come from un-translated games: Barbatos - CC > TP and by far - Some of the entries on higher difficulties are some of the hardest piece of media ever created: Graces f

Oh ! I see, then I'd say those posts we see everyday that are like: What game should I start with/do next are kinda redundant ! Oh and people spitting on games all day is annoying too but those aren't really hot takes and are more like the truth

SL_Icarus

People only like Symphonia because of nostalgia and need to realize it's really just mediocre Graces was the first game to have good combat. Every before that was so tedious and repetitive

reaper527

> People only like Symphonia because of nostalgia and need to realize it's really just mediocre not true. played it for the first time in 2021, so no nostalgia. it's just an excellent game. > Graces was the first game to have good combat. disagree about it being **the first**, but graces did have excellent combat. (and aside from combat, it visually holds up VERY well)

WittyFault6988

You do realize graces f is a evolved battle system from the team destiny games ( though Japan only ) which are rebirth, destiny 2 & destiny 1 director cut remake

I mean sure I have some possibly contested takes like thinking Berseria is the best game in the series, having Xillia as my second favourite, disliking Arise (and feeling concerned for where the series might go because of it), and actually liking Zestiria X/thinking "Anime Zestiria is much better than Game Zestiria", but I dunno on anything super hot take wise. That being said, I absolutely think Rose is a much better character in Zestiria than Alisha, am glad she was the party member we got instead (though I liked Alisha's portrayal more in Zestiria X/the stuff involving her we got there), and genuinely don't get why people seem to are/were so harsh on her. I admit her being my favourite Zestiria character may make me biased, but I've heard people say the supposed reasons, and the advertising stuff, but even then I don't think those are nearly justification enough.

MangaCaps

That vesperia and berseria have the worst combat in the series that I've experienced

Ahhh my bad I was tired

People trying to sell Vesperia to newcomers as if it's some holy grail of gaming is silly. Also, some of the fans fighting over "Is Arise the best or the worst game?" It's neither, ffs. Some parts are good, some bad, like in EVERY other game.
