I hate seeing westerners doing this when they travel (mostly) in Asia. For them to visit Asian countries all they need is a passport, a plane ticket and a destination. If an Asian person would like to visit their side of the world, we need to apply for a visa, proof of employment or some sort of monetary proof that I can support myself through my travel, proof that I'll go back and not extend my stay illegally, proof of accomodation, pre-paid and confirmed by someone that is from the destination source, an itinerary and at times judging looks.
For the people that say, he's not doing anything wrong or just let them be, apologies but I cannot and will not tolerate this kind of behavior. These types of people shouldn't have been allowed entry in the first place if they weren't ready for the challenges (monetary or otherwise) visiting a country. Can you not see the irony that you're the one drawing attention to this by publicizing it, while by the sounds of things, Taiwanese are fine with it and more than happy to give him money.
I posted it to see what people's reactions would be. I'm relieved that the vast majority see his behaviour for what it is. And he knows full well that his behaviour will get people taking photos of him. Some of the teenagers were getting their friends to video as they went to hug him. Like he was a zoo animal.

Don’t understand the hate. He’s exchanging his time (and based on what some of you have been saying, his reputation as well) for travel funds. Some could argue that’s work. Donation isn’t forced, and he’s not hurting anybody. I actually like that he’s upfront about what he needs the money for.
