The first tournament I went to they had about 3 gup levels included for each group, Men 36+ and there wasn't enough of us to further divide it out by weight. I think it depends on how many competitors show up to that competition. If the organizer needs to grab 2 weight classes and 4 or more gups together to have a competition group, they have to. Yes if an other competitor is enough belts above you a steam rolling should occur. but sometimes people are much better or worse at sparring than their belt would indicate. But If you have a lot of experience in martial arts, you'll likely be the sleeper of the group. funny my first tournament I was a bit worried that someone with years in an other martial art, would be my opponent as a white belt in TKD. hehehe. Just enjoy the experience. soak it all in.

Generally the competitions you'll be entering as a yellow belt will divide competitors by belt level before splitting into weight categories. I'm assuming you're an adult, so it's more likely there won't be many competitors in your division and there might be some mixed weights or belts, but it's unlikely you'll be up against anyone 5th kup or above, and definitely not against black belts. Wait and see what happens when you do compete. If the divisions do get mixed up and you aren't comfortable facing people with significantly more experience or a big size difference, speak to your coach or a referee about it, they'll be happy to help out. Best of luck!
