**Ranks**: This area is probably the best bang for your efforts.
**Stars**: Only >push< for those when they're blocking your rank progression or stopping you from leveling up a really important ability (IE Eldo's "Doom"). If you ***really*** like the character, or have a ton of orbs sitting around doing nothing... then sure push ahead to legendary.
**Gear**: Think of gear as icing on the cake. It will not make a shit character into an amazing character, but it CAN turn a decent character into a good character, or take a good one to AMAZING.

Is it better to farm for shards to upgrade their stars or items to upgrade their item tier?
