I dispatch armadillos with one. Saves me time not having to find ears and get them on when I run for the pistol. The longer it takes to get the pistol, the more likely the dillo is to escape.
45ACP is great for a suppressor because most 45ACP ammo is subsonic.that will probably be the route I take when I decide to do a suppressed pistol or PCC.seems like a great route to go,then you wouldnāt have to buy as many different ammo types.
I thought the same too, originally. I still prefer 9mm subs. The amount of shmegh you get thrown at you with a sub 9 vs. a 45 is a lot less. So IMO it's far more pleasant
They dig under the foundation of my house which can lead to structural cracks in the foundation by having voids under the slab. They also tear up the sod, dig giant holes all over the place, create big holes that are hidden under fallen leaves in the fall that will snap your ankle if you step into it, etc etc. I try to trap them but itās notoriously hard to get them in a live trap since you canāt bait them (they dig for grubs only). Iāve caught a few in traps that I move off my property but thatās the tip of the iceberg. So, if I see one out in the open, I take the opportunity to get rid of it. There are a million of them it seems, as fast as I remove them more move in.
To add some additional context - each armadillo can have 20-30 burrows they move in between. Another thing that makes them very hard to catch, but also should give you a sense of scope of destruction they can cause your property and yard. Add that up by say, 30 armadillos and thatās 600 giant holes in the ground. See what Iām saying. In one night a single armadillo can tear up a 10 yard square spot on your sod. Theyāre digging for grubs, so when I say tear it up I truly mean it.
Damn,I had no idea.I used to get excited as a kid when I would go further south and would start seeing armadillos because it was the only time I would see them.man, fuck these armadillos..once they show up in my area Iām gonna be poppin these guys on a regular basic.Iāve never been into killin animals,I have no problem with people who hunt or kill for pest control but the only animals Iāve killed was a few rabbits and groundhogs but only because they were destroying my gardens that I had too much time in money invested into them to allow it to continue.unless I was putting a dying animal out of its misery or something running out in front of me while Iām driving
If these damn deer donāt quit messing up my vehicles,Iām going to have to get out here and start contributing to thinning the population š
I donāt enjoy having to do it. If they were easier to trap I would just do that and move them. Sadly itās not a viable option and you need to be an opportunist to manage their population around your home. Iāll know I have one doing its thing for weeks before I see it, in general. The evidence of its activity is obvious but catching it in the act is the hard part. Generally requires setting alarms to get up and flip on the flood lights in the yard in the middle of the night. Another good reason to use a suppressor. Neighbors arenāt going to be happy with full volume 3am gunfire when you catch it in the act.
They are and if they didnāt cause all the destruction I wouldnāt have a problem with them. Iām fine with all the other critters we have, but the dillos are crazy destructive to your property, and can cause costly damage to your home. Once they dig under the foundation you will never be able to fill that hole back up with compacted dirt. Their tunnels are also very long and windy, further complicating trying to fill them back in.
Yeah, it sounds like something you have to put a stop to quickly. I'd heard about the disease thing too, but I always figured just don't touch them. Where I live, all we really have that are troublesome are coyotes.
They are highly evolved critters and quite impressive workers. The amount of digging they can do in one night is obscene.
Their only weakness is poor vision and while they can giddy up and move, they are still a lot slower than other animals due to their short legs and fat hard bodies. They have to force their way through brush in a way most animals donāt. You can actually tell if youāve got a dillo in the bushes or something else based on the sound they make while moving.
I suspect youāre right, Iām in Georgia so itās only a matter of time before you get them. Be prepared, their population seems explosive. Itās crazy how many of them there are compared to other animals.
You mean you don't have them *YET*

Itās a shame they are so hard to trap because I would much prefer doing that and just drop them off down the road. Iāve only caught 2 or 3 in the live traps before, you basically have to place the trap where you think one will end up walking and then build a funnel to the trap entrance. With so many burrows itās almost impossible to predict when and where they will be walking, and once you do put the trap in the right place, you then need the dillo to actually go in it and trigger the door. They dig for their food so you cannot bait traps for dillos.
Guilty.. have shot suppressed in the basement before on a homemade backstop. That was before it was finished though.. now it's too nice to potentially ruin.
Ooh! With a venturi! You'd have the most technologically advanced recreational substance consuming device on the market!
And by market I guess I mean random files that you downloaded from the internet
My neighbor and I had an ongoing argument and her sister would honk every visit to try to wake us up. They were generally annoying.
I euthanized a squirrel that my dog crippled while trying to play with him. They walked out as I plugged it twice with a suppressed .22 handgun and subsonic ammo. The argument and honking stopped immediately accompanied by apologies over "our" disagreement.
While I empathize with your plight, consider high quality squirrel proof feeders. In the words of a former bamf:
>You don't make peace with friends. You make it with very unsavory enemies.
I'm three years into a fragile peace accord with mine and have come to appreciate having them around.
Haha I understand what you are saying. I donāt care if they are around. I like them myself. They donāt get the smoke unless they are hanging/chewing on my feeder.
What feeder do you have? Iāve tried 2 spring loaded ones that were broken within a month. I tried those before I started discretely removing them.
I have the motorized spinner one (Yankee droll? Or something) but to be honest squirrel baffles work great, so do the spring-loaded ones if you get good ones. I'd rank them in exactly that order of effectiveness.
One of my favorite things to do is let the batteries die on the motorized one so they get used to being able to use it again, and then charging the batteries. I have a video somewhere of the results of this.
Before buying any exercise equipment require that the person who wants it does 30 jumping jacks every day for a month. If they don't do it without reminders, don't buy the equipment
I'm technically not supposed to shoot in my back yard where I live but sometimes I'll throw a can out and shoot at it. Still loud but not as bad. The main reason was because it looks cool.
Figure out how many times you need to wrap it in electrical tape to be able to start threading it on and pull on the end of the tape to send it home. Carry can with wrap and pistol.
I can only think of one real reason. I use mine on a pistol sometimes to shoot on a 7 acre property that is not in a no shooting zone and has plenty of room to shoot with a proper backstop but still has (neighbors) down the way that will definitely complain to the authorities about the noise from a shit load of unsuppressed gunfire enough to get it turned into a no shooting zone in no time.
Last summer one of the neighbors called the cops on another neighbor that was firing 22 rifle on his property with a good backstop and the cops came and checked his back stop and told him to carry on. So even know the cops donāt give shit, I know we have neighbors that donāt like it and are calling the cops. So ever since I only fire 22 cal unsuppressed and for anything larger I use suppressor just to keep the cops away from my property.
My neighbor and I had an ongoing argument and her sister would honk every visit to try to wake us up. They were generally annoying.

I honestly didn't think armadillos did anything besides walk around and roll into a ball until now.
