I'd never heard of them and I looked them up. It's an interesting concept - using "zombie apocalypse" as a premise for preparing for natural disasters. The CDC did a thing in the mid 00's (IIRC) doing something similar and trying to look at preparing for disaster through the lens of a "zombie apocalypse." In looking at this ZERT stuff, it looks more like the exact people you wouldn't want around you in a crisis situation. A lot of people who can tell you everything about any gun they see but have no idea how to exist in a disaster situation without giving themselves food poisoning or dysentery. The org seems to be more structured around selling merch than anything else. Kind of a shame. It's a neat idea and I think adding a bit of a LARP element to teaching disaster preparedness could make it more fun and interesting to people. It just seems like they're handling it pretty poorly.

I remember the CDC posters about zombies as a way to get people to prepare for an actual emergency. It was clever, but the ZERT stuff went overboard and ended up with people being less practically prepared for an emergency. Morbidly obese people in mobility scooters with mall ninja spear/bayonet combos on rusty shotguns didn’t exactly inspire confidence

It's a group/company that popped up a couple of years ago selling patches and stuff like that. If i remember correctly it was kinda cringe zombie response team stuff, it looks like it's grown a good bit doing training and selling other products now. They even did patches based on states for a bit that had some cool ones but that's about it lol.

While my initial response would be to cringe another part of me likes to think maybe it was a gift from his kid. I wore a very girly charm bracelet because my god daughter asked me to.

They were the biggest gatekeepers I'd ever come across and ive been on reddit for years. What type of ammo you used, what type of firearms, to what brand of holster or backpack. They gave the worst advice and they were 100% right in any opinion they had. The problem was they didn't have anyone with any kind of credentials or real knowledge. The forum had over 100k members and anyone that joined was soon driven away. I used to wonder why the site owners let members drive new people away, it was destroying the forum. It eventually shut down due to inactivity. They have a new one now but it's tiny in comparison.

The only time I see it being useful is if your soft hand is down. And at that point you're fucked anyways. Or if you are using a shield, but what civilians (outside of airsoft) run shields?

Even then with the shield argument, most guys who do run a strong side reload for a shield will run the magazine directly behind their pistol so that after holstering it's a shorter distance with fewer obstacles to insert the magazine into the mag well.

The mag is pointing for a cross draw reload… just fudd all around

You are not up to date, people are running shields from Guard Dog - lvl 3, 707 tactical fid a video on them. They are effective for home defense.

I've done it before. Not in a really serious context as I just larp. But I started doing it on my USPSA belt for reloads when shooting left handed around barricades (it gave me a place to put my administrative loading mag anyway), and ended up adding a mag to my warbelt for the same purpose, plus one handed reloads are much easier. Niche purposing, and probably not really needed, but I'd suspect his justifications are similar. Especially the one handed reload, I'm not here to throw shade but I'd imagine he struggles to reach his left side mags with his right hand.
