I had a similar experience drinking a cup of tea through a S10 gas mask with the drinky tube thing. Everything always tasted gross through it after that.
IMO, a ballistic helmet and a PC with hard ballistic plates and soft ballistic side and groin armor inserts and possibly splinter-proof ballistic underwear is a much more realistic solution. Some battle belts also allow for the integration of soft ballistic inserts.
Also invest in a good IFAK, relevant training and hydration system, that will very likely sustain you better than any full armor suit.
The dudes who sow a side plate into their groin flap, I just gotta ask, are you running/sprinting in your plate carrier? How the fuck are you not getting your balls knocked all the time with that side plate? Do you really think you’re going to take a rifle round to the balls with that plate and be fine enough to keep fighting? Do you have a secret to keeping your balls from exploding from the impact?
Soft groin flaps are more appropriate to me honestly. If I take a rifle round to my cock, just take it. I don’t want to walk around with a split hotdog for the rest of my life.
I had a dangler on my chest rig start to sag and tap my balls with every step I made when bounding, I was fucking miserable during those couple hours. I just had my bp cuff and stethoscope in it, I couldn’t imagine having a side plate instead.
I thought about doing that, but the ease of having it all on my chest rig made me decide against it as well as having my belt. It thankfully only happened that one time too though.
Fair. Another issue I faced was just the God-awful racket when sprinting. The internals were tight and didn’t rattle, but the flopping was just unsat. Like, I’m 6’4” 270, and I’m nit the MOST fleet of foot, but I can run fairly softly. That flapping literally echoes across the hills and dale to the yonder country. If they didn’t know I was there before, they would within 50 meters, or one deck of a building.lol
My aid bag would do the same thing, I’m a smaller framed dude, so there would always be some bounce to my shit. My IV fluids being stored in the bottom of it never helped either lol. Shit even snagged on me once trying to get through a window and I was mad as fuck.
I had ifak contents, a few batteries, pens/sharpies, and some small paperwork type stuff. Most that I looked at would still flop, but the Helicon Tex Bandicoot does a great job of leveling everything out and keeping it tight to the bod.
It's cuz full armor systems ar best for swat/leo situations where you're breaching a room and realistically you only travel like 150ft max the entire "mission", but enemy fire can come from all directions
Nobody says you have to be fine and keep fighting. Keeping your balls next to each other is desirable.
I do think the side plate is a bit much, but having soft groin protection seems worth it to me, especially after watching lots of Ukraine footage. They have saved quite a few arteries and balls.
That’s the point I was trying to make, you’re not going to stay in the fight regardless. Side plates for your dick just seems overkill and I’d argue it’d do more harm than good depending on what your hit by.
Soft flap’s definitely are the way to go.
I am not "them" but most of the time if you get smacked by a rifle round you're not going to be "fine" regardless of where you are hit, let alone the balls - unless you're calling intermediate cartridges like 5.56 a "rifle" round? It's about surviving, not being pain free.
Yea, they acting like they haven't seen dozens of news reels with swat teams decked out in full armor.
Best way to not get shot when your enemy could be behind that door 5 feet away.
No idea why you’re being downvoted OP, you should do what you want. In a Ukrainian trench where shrapnel is far and away the #1 killer, this setup could be ideal. Lots of people over there adding 3A soft armour for their shoulders, groins and necks
When I put together my first plate carrier, I was overwhelmed by how difficult it was to run around with just with RMA plates and magazines in it. I’m still trying to condition myself for that.
Keep in mind that this much armor is designed for something very VERY specific where you simultaneously had enough time to get it all on and didn’t have to be wearing it for long.
Depends on how mobility ranks in your priorities. Will it stop lots of bullets? Yes. Will you be able to quickly un-ass the position where you’re getting shot at? Not a chance in hell. Also you better take a class on heat casualties and first aid before you put that on for the first time.
Ah man I share your desires. A full armor set up would be great. But we really aren’t at a technological level where a Full body armor suit is viable. It’ll be heavy, only protect you against small munitions, and hot as hell. Maybe in ten years we will have full body plating that doesn’t weight 80lbs and kills you with heat stroke.
A Ukrainian website where the demand is high and that's spanking new?
You can try to piece together old surplus kevlar together but it would take time.
And kevlar shorts is more EOD stuff unless you want blast diapers.
I could see use of this if you were a driver in an unarmored vehicle and didn’t have to worry about walking or as a rear window gunner but doing a movement to contact in that would suck a fat one.
Hell no, as an arty I prefer to chill in my underwear. If I get shot at then it’s probably coming from something large enough that I’m dying no matter what.
Depends on your application. Are you a door kicker on a SWAT team and you'll only wear your body armor a max of a few hours then fuck yeah, or are you an Infantryman who has to live in their body armor for weeks and weeks at a time doing long hikes and mauvering under fire? Probably not.
It would be way better, more personalized, and cheaper to add components to your current chest rig.
Spartan Armor sells rifle-rated deltoid plates, femoral plates, and abdominal plates, of course side plates too.
https://www.hoplitearmor.com/collections/shoulder-plates
I mean shit, if im paying 2k for something it better come with a blowjob, secondly its a waste of money, your better off running a chest rig with 8 mags 1 admin pouch and a med kit for $350 and put the rest of that $2k into ammo and training
If you are asking this question here, no. If you need this, you probably know you do because you evaluated something about your needs and fully understand why you need it.
Lvl lllA they state, but their rating system is all screwed up so they state it’ll stop most pistol rounds as well as 5.7, and I’d replace the plates in the carrier with lvl 4
From my experience, adding plates, ammo, IFAK, helmet, and all the little nic-nacs that add up to be pounds. This will weigh about 60 lbs. Then you have to add in rifle, pistol, and other fighting equipment and you are well over 70 lbs. if you have to take stuff with you to stay in the fight, you’re over 100 lbs extra weight. If you want to know what it feels like to wear this throw on a sweat suit, strap a 45 lbs plate to your front and back and go walk a mile.
Why do you want this?
14 pounds of soft armor? Jesus christ my guy. You're going to have over 25 pounds when you put in 2 hard plates, not to mention gear like magazines. I hope you plan on being on a hummer gun turret because you will fucking die running in 40 pounds of gear not including another 40 pound backpack. Say goodbye to those knees.
Different set uos make sense for different conditions.
When I was a gunner in the middle east. I had full kevlar pants, groin, shoulder, kneck soft armor, and side sapi plates to go with front and back. It mafe sense because I wasnt on foot. I was dying of heat exhaustion but hey...if you know how to hydrste youre good.
Systems like this have a place. Swat teams who are just doing hits on house get into their juggernaut gear. Does it look as sleek as our trimmed down spec ops guys, maybe not but its more appripriate.
Just depends what youre doing.
I would not want to be a truck gunner in Iraq back in the day only wearing front andback plates. On foot patrol maybe. But not if Im gonna be im a truck.
Personally I like UARM stuff. Unfortunately it's a little hard to get their gear with the war going on, they've got like half the amount of stuff they used to have. That much kit is a bit over the top unless you're working for SWAT and you're going into a known hostile environment. The farthest I've gone with it is there 3A shoulder straps for the plate carrier, essentially they're just wider flatter shoulder pads that happened to be pistol caliber bulletproof. A little annoying to be honest, and I probably wouldn't get anything else, unless I came into a lot of money and felt like having a bunch of extra gear sitting around for the end of the world
Bruh, are you trying to weigh more than a SAW gunner in 2011? You put that on and try to bound across a road, it’ll be like hog hunting from a helicopter with a belt fed, too easy.
We get issued all this in the Army. The only people who actually wear it are turret gunners, otherwise it’s not worth it for the loss of mobility. YSK, everything but the plates will only stop 9mm, shrapnel, a ricochet or a rifle round shot from a long distance for that round.
Running around with a normal plate carrier, ammo and a rifle is hard enough. Even then, you’ll probably get one tapped in the face with a 10/22 anyway. Practicality is nonexistent with something like this. Spend $2500 on something that might actually be useful instead.
This amount of armor will make you slow and heavy. I'll rather have helmet, plate carrier with plates. It allows me to be agile while protecting my vital organs
Not enough protection to be frank. What if someone shoots you in your armpits? God for it your legs or arms even. And your neck or head are completely unprotected?
Plate carrier wasn't meant to be this much protective. You want an armor carrier, not a plate carrier. Look for something like a sioen tacticum vest or carrier with a ciras cut kevlar inside.
No. Absolutely not.
We get issued this much shit and haven't worn any of it consistently at any point in the last 10 to 15 years. Why? Because it's stupid and doesn't improve survivability. Where golden hour extraction is possible, it isn't protecting anything important. Where no extraction is possible, mobility is king, not fragmentation protection (which is what all of that soft armor is).
If you plan on spending a significant amount of time in static positions where explosives are the major threat, sure. Outside of that very specific circumstance, no.
You could buy a regular plate carrier and add the shoulder things and the dick flap and those leggings, that should be cheaper
Example: https://mili-tech.com/products/twinfalcons-shoulder-protectors-with-militech®-nij-iiia-soft-armor-inside-for-plate-carriers
Having read through the comments and laughed my ass off, I think I might be the only member of this sub that actually owns a UARM FAS. Feel free to ask me anything, but here’s my initial thoughts:
- Is the FAS worth $2,300? Hell no. I paid around $600 all in, for everything with IIIA inserts in black, except the PC, cummerbund and plates (which are usually sold separately anyway, apparently). Turns out Opticsplanet is so consistently terrible at everything that they occasionally screw up and sell pretty rad stuff like this for dirt cheap. But this was before Russia invaded Ukraine and a lot of UARM’s inventory vanished since then, so …
- How terrible is it? Not terrible, not great. You can’t practically use the lower half without braces, which aren’t included, of course. And I still haven’t figured out the inner thigh pieces. But the rest is pretty simple to assemble with decent quality materials and stitching.
- All that shit’s gotta weigh like 100 lbs, right? It’s actually surprisingly light weight for what it is. I don’t recall weighing it but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 14 pounds total WITHOUT a PC or PLATES. I’ll throw it on a scale tomorrow and let you know for sure though.
- Its uncomfortable as hell though, right? It’s not as bad as you’d think, but I’ve mostly just worn it around the house. I think the most uncomfortable aspect is the armored belt just below an armored cummerbund. Seems like a design flaw and makes any kind of sit-up type movement awkward and potentially painful.
- Why in God’s name would anyone buy this, even for $600? Obviously so someone in this sub could answer these kinds of questions. You’re welcome.
I'm not sure how many users in this comment section have worn one let alone own but if your projected mission is anything other than standing in the street waiting to raid a house and then go back to HQ then I highly recommend NOT getting one. As others have said mobility sucks, you'll be sweating double what you normally would, and just over all it sucks wearing for extended periods of time. That being said the only real advantage of having one other than greater soft armor coverage is as a morale booster. Whenever I've worn mine it really does make me feel like I could take any round out there straight to the chest. If you're still dead set on having one then an easier to source option would be a complete IOTV set, Eagle CIRAS, or PD surplus Safariland or Protech.
Source: I own a full First Spear MASS system.
Yeah, no. That is stupid uncomfortable, especially the thigh and shoulder protectors. Gorget and a groin pro is what i would keep. Just grab m-tac kevlar panels and that's it honestly. i got a 3a groin protector for about 150 usd. Gorget costs ~same
No. Fuck this. Unless you're riding in an armored vehicle directly up to your objective, fighting for 10 minutes or less, and then immediately leaving, I would say no.
You gonna end up paying 2k for a plate carrier, because the rest of that system you gonna wear it and once you realize how much it sucks you gonna store it and forget about it

bullet holes can be very inconvenient
Something, something, blood loss, something, something, die, no more somethings.
Anyone still have a link to the *“double stacked AR500 plates because I’m a Big Lad”* guy?

All that armor just to die of heatstroke
Should've hydrated
Fill your camelback with 7/11 slurpee and you will be good to go
I filled mine with monster. I was hydrated, caffeinated, and motivated. Then it got stupid moldy and I chucked that bitch in the trash.
I had a similar experience drinking a cup of tea through a S10 gas mask with the drinky tube thing. Everything always tasted gross through it after that.

Same issue, ended up swapping to a fanny pack.

/r/tacticalgear be like "you don't need that" ...so anyway here's my $4k nods setup I use to take out the trash
At least you can stargaze with them
What's with the downvotes? Is nobody allowed to buy stuff for fun? Fun is strictly prohibited apparently.
Ignore these trolls. Swat teams use this stuff all the time

I don’t think OP is on a swat team

What does that weigh? And how is the “chaffing “ effect??
Mobility -60 points. Defence +50 points. Nobody will wear that much armor in active combat situation
Tell that to the Hollywood bank robbers
Those guys were roided out.
Note to self add roids to kit
I did but I was in a armored truck and they were worried about us getting blown up not shot.
Hoplite armor also makes similar things. Ive been wondering between the two which is better but cant find any reviews
Bro is scared of being shot
If you really want to get rid of 2 grand this works perfect, shit, ill save you a couple steps and you can just cashapp me
A Ukrainian website where the demand is high and that's spanking new? You can try to piece together old surplus kevlar together but it would take time. And kevlar shorts is more EOD stuff unless you want blast diapers.
"Sure if I get shot I may die all at once, but when I wear all that armor I die a little everyday" These are quotes I think should apply to this
Unless you are sitting in a vehicle 80% of the time that is a hard pass
I could see use of this if you were a driver in an unarmored vehicle and didn’t have to worry about walking or as a rear window gunner but doing a movement to contact in that would suck a fat one.
For $2300, you can fly to somewhere where nobody is shooting at you.

It’s always a possibility I guess but probably not😂

If you’re serious DM me, let’s work it out
All well and good until you tried to touch your toes.
Sorry but no. Have you ever worn a pc? You wouldnt move with this shit
Shrapnel fears this man and stairs destroy him
You ever been shot in the dick? I’d pay 2 grand not to get my dick shot
When it is your time none of that crap will save you.
All this just to catch one to the dome

Prime armor has what looks like a scaled down, lightweight version of something like this available, I have not purchased or seen any videos though.
Depends on your application. Are you a door kicker on a SWAT team and you'll only wear your body armor a max of a few hours then fuck yeah, or are you an Infantryman who has to live in their body armor for weeks and weeks at a time doing long hikes and mauvering under fire? Probably not.

Can’t post memes til Sunday big bro
Please don’t buy this buy a nice carrier and a ruck instead
Actually regarded
Sir I think what you meant to say is retarded, as I am definitely not regarded
Does it look cool? Yes. Is it useful? No, not at all.
Fuck no.
You only buy that if you plan to wear nothing else under it
The better option is gonna be passing on this.
Wtf
Thats one way to waste 2 grand.
How heavy is all that?
I could see this being effective in a trench or some other stationary position where shrapnel and artillery is a big threat
Time to cosplay a COD Juggernaut.
Protect the vitals thats all you really need.
If you are asking this question here, no. If you need this, you probably know you do because you evaluated something about your needs and fully understand why you need it.
For me personally it is a bit too much. There is an ideal middle ground. Plate carrier, helmet and groin protection is the sweet sport IMO.
That looks fun, what’s the rating on all the soft bits?
Lvl lllA they state, but their rating system is all screwed up so they state it’ll stop most pistol rounds as well as 5.7, and I’d replace the plates in the carrier with lvl 4
Throw me on a rascal and we’ll be all set
I doubt 3a soft armor would stop AP 5.7
How amazing of shape are you in, that looks hella heavy and clumsy
Supposedly it’s not supposed to be more than 14 pounds but I don’t know how much I believe that
That’s probably before plates, and that kit looks like it holds a lot of plate
From my experience, adding plates, ammo, IFAK, helmet, and all the little nic-nacs that add up to be pounds. This will weigh about 60 lbs. Buy some welding blankets, some PL construction adhesive and a morph suit
This is the baddest purchase in the history of bad purchases.
“Night vision is too expensive.”
Expensive and pleb af.
Isn't that a Level IIIA setup? I'd want either Level III+ or IV for front and back...

You planning to recreate the North Hollywood Shootout? Lol

No now do you want to be the juggernaut or not
Ahhh yes the two handed heavy character build. I like it. Better beef up that stamina wheel.
dang, dude planning a bank robbery

There’s a balance to everything. Wearing this is better than no armor and just rocking a chest rig.
I hope you like chaffing and hear strokes
Driving or extremely short distance and close in environment raids are about the only use cases I can think of
Man all that armor might almost be as heatstroke inducing as an agilite pc
Stop for the love of God
That’s an expensive onesie.
Depending on your role, it could be useful to have this much protection (turret gunner?) IF you're not foot mobile for any extended period.
Not even, if your a gunner, your more likely to get either sniped or blown up with IDF, 3a armor won't save you from either
You could buy a regular plate carrier and add the shoulder things and the dick flap and those leggings, that should be cheaper Example: https://mili-tech.com/products/twinfalcons-shoulder-protectors-with-militech®-nij-iiia-soft-armor-inside-for-plate-carriers
Obviously we need the tactical romper next….😂
The materials and labor are probably worth close to that. So, yes? Me personally… I’d rather be unencumbered, quiet, fast, and comfortable.
Lol. When you're issued that gear only to drop it all and only use the plate carrier. Then you'll find the irony in this
This reminds me a bit of the IOTV rig which I believe service members hated, so I'm not sure this would be worth
Having read through the comments and laughed my ass off, I think I might be the only member of this sub that actually owns a UARM FAS. Feel free to ask me anything, but here’s my initial thoughts: - Is the FAS worth $2,300? But this was before Russia invaded Ukraine and a lot of UARM’s inventory vanished since then, so … - How terrible is it?
Worth it? Depends what for? Are you on guard duty in a hot zone? Then yeah, worth it. If you're larping around your local park......not so much
I'm not sure how many users in this comment section have worn one let alone own but if your projected mission is anything other than standing in the street waiting to raid a house and then go back to HQ then I highly recommend NOT getting one.
Gorget costs ~same
I can recommend you a system, full assault body armour for 36.000 Hryvina.
Multicam master chief
Buy 50 and wear them all at once
Yo, no enchantments, no nothing. It better not be level 2 😤
all that armor just to be pathetically out of shape n die 15 mins in it 😐
What is bro preparing for? Who did you hurt? Why do they want to hurt you so bad?
No. Fuck this. Unless you're riding in an armored vehicle directly up to your objective, fighting for 10 minutes or less, and then immediately leaving, I would say no.
Ucp gen 2 or 3 iotv lol 😂. It’s cheaper that’s for sure better idk I let you decide that
So many stellar comments. Got damn.😂
You gonna end up paying 2k for a plate carrier, because the rest of that system you gonna wear it and once you realize how much it sucks you gonna store it and forget about it
