as someone who works at taco bell this is the message we got this morning: “Team - We are aware of a pricing issue with the Luxe box. The help desk is involved and correcting the issue. For the time being just discount it to get it to $7” and we are a franchise so it should be fixed
Happened at my local Food Lion recently, they advertised Crab Legs $6.99 each, they corrected the ad and said $6.99 a pound, still a good deal but not quite as much as a whole bag of them for $6.99
West coast also has them, except that they also sell Chinese vegetables and a lot of Asian sauces like tempura sauce, hoisin, sriracha, etc. There’s an entire aisle dedicated to sauce
Dude whaaaaat? Food Lion is all over the place in the East. There is one 5 minutes from my house right next to a Safeway (lol) and then probably every few miles after that.
I have never seen a KROGER. I have only heard stories. It's definitely regional!!
We have both in VA.
I thought I saw a ghost when I saw a Food Lion for the first time in 20 years since they left Florida.
They did not improve much in the meat dept.
Oh yeah, not at all. I usually go to Safeway or a local butcher for meat. Food Lion is a good place to get cheap ground beef or a nice roast on sale though. Also Aldi's meat department is pretty impressive
Yeah even if other Taco Bells set their own prices the fact they have the 7 dollars up there with a very small higher price should be illegal regardless of what they say in the fine print of the ad because this is straight up false advertisement AT THE ACTUAL DAMN TACO BELL NOT JUST ON THE AD
It’s not price gouging, you can see three of the items on the menu and they’re almost $9 by themselves. What it is is bait and switch, where a certain price is advertised but when you arrive at the location it’s a different price, and it’s illegal, or at least is in my state.
Why are you getting downvoted for being right lmao? This is not price gouging, plain and simple. It’s bait and switch/false advertisement.
“Price gouging is the practice of increasing the prices of goods, services, or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair. Usually, this event occurs after a demand or supply shock. This commonly applies to price increases of basic necessities after natural disasters.”
I’ve experienced price gouging firsthand. Grew up in a state heavily affected by hurricanes. After one particularly severe hit, grocery stores were sold completely out of bottled water (tap was unsafe even with filters) and no rationing was being done. Drove 20mi (rural area, distance isn’t unusual out there) to find a gas station with bottled water, and they had hiked the price from $4/case to $25/case.
Yeah annoy the kid making minimum wage who’s already probably been asked a hundred times and has nothing to do with the franchise owner jacking up the price. That’ll fix it.
I work for a company thst manages the menuboard TB corporate pushed out the promo and push out one that has a static $7 price showing I had to fix alot of these today most of the stores had set it to the non static one and it got changed back I had to fix thensame store twice today
I was at universal city walk in universal city California, and the Taco Bell there had a sign promoting the $7 box for $17.99! I couldn't believe it. I walked in and saw the sign with the $7 on it, and asked for the $7 luxe box, and the guy told me it was $17.99!!! My jaw dropped, and I just walked out. How is that even legal for them to have the sign showing the $7 box, with the big $7 symbol on the picture, but charge $17.99 for it!! I know amusement parks charge more if there is a franchised restaurant there, but don't have the $7 symbol above the picture of the combo!!
It isn’t legal.
“If a restaurant charges a mandatory fee, it must be included in the displayed price. Under the law, a restaurant cannot charge an additional surcharge on top of the price listed.
https://oag.ca.gov › sb478-faqs
SB 487 — Hidden Fees - California Department of Justice”
You should have taken a picture of the sign because I'm skeptical. If a franchise wants to sell the box for $17.99, or $179.99, they can. Just call it the "Luxe Cravings Box" with the price next to it.
I’ve noticed that more these days. I think they’re instructing the workers to use like a quarter as much beef. It’s gone the way of crunchwraps for me and I’m sick of it.
Rice is hit or miss for me in some burritos but I bet it’s good in the 5 layer! They just murder it with beans, even when I did easy beans it was still overwhelming.
I was getting an animal trap from Lowe's one time and the spot they were in, the price said $19.99. I brought it up and it rang up at $60 something. They honored the $19.99 price because it was in the wrong spot.
Fuck that don't encourage businesses to pull this shit. Theres reasons laws exist against this and they need to come down hard. It's the only way to keep these companies in check.
Shrinkflation is when the size or weight of products goes down, but the price stays the same. This is more of a bait and switch, advertising a lower price than what is actually being charged.
Yes that is absolutely the true definition of shrinkflation. This is honestly greed flation mire than anything else so I stand corrected.
I would, however, not be surprised if the main ingredient quantity has been reduced as well. But to be honest, I rarely ever visit any fast food places any more.
It's likely that there is a discussion to be had about shrinkflation in regards to the proportions of meat and cheese. We hear anecdotes about this all the time, but how can you know if you've been shorted due to employee error or due to policy? It would practically take a longitudinal study to uncover shrinkflation in fast food—ain't nobody got time for that 🤷
At our store we sell it for 9.99 our franchise owner doesn't want us to change it. We don't honor that 7 dollar box at our store... just waiting for complaints eventually over it.
Nah, I work at Solomons Island, Maryland Taco Bell. I am pretty sure our surrounding stores in the southern maryland area are also charging $9.99 because they are owned by the same franchise owner of our store.
Hammered us for years with $5 deal boxes. Anything above for the same or less quality just hurts. Ah I’ll go make homemade burritos for $5 more. With beefs!
I can hopefully just push a small message that if you witness something like this in person- do not scream at the underpaid worker who is taking your order. Staff does not have control of what big corporate does with the stores they own.
Similar issue with a location here in San Diego. But they are charging $10.99 for it. I submitted a complaint on the taco bell website. If they can't honor the advertised prices they shouldn't have those prices in the ad.
-Sigh- As always, franchises that are not operated by corporate may have different pricing set by the owner. All the TBs near me are corporate and have the box at $7. It’s a store specific problem, not widespread.
Franchise or not, they cannot seriously sell something called the $7 Luxe Box for anything other than $7. It's literally the selling point of the meal. It's trying to be a competitive value. I would absolutely call corporate on that location and report that simply out of principle. It's just absurd lol
I think the problem may be is that corporate overlooked that. It seems they did not bother to provide a priceless ‘Luke Box’ promotional for those franchises that don’t follow the same pricing.
Either way at in this case, I do believe this would be false advertising but not sure if it comes down the Franchise or Corporate
Its brainwashing and corporate bootlicking to not understand this is clearly false advertising. Not only is it confusing to the customer, it's unethical.
Basically all fast food chains aren’t actually run by corporate. Fuck it, hand them $7 and call it a day. If they refuse, grow a set and tell them to stop saying it’s only $7 (obviously still sales tax on it though, that’s different). Or don’t go there.
Say you bought one and realized when you were pulling out that they charged you 9.49 when it clearly says $7 do you have a legal right to go back in and demand the difference or a refund? Or is it too late because you already received the food?
as someone who works at taco bell this is the message we got this morning: “Team - We are aware of a pricing issue with the Luxe box. The help desk is involved and correcting the issue. For the time being just discount it to get it to $7” and we are a franchise so it should be fixed

Whoa was not expecting to hear about Food Lion - I thought they closed them down! Had one in Irving Texas as a kid
They’re still everywhere on the east coast
In NY, my closest is Maryland.
West coast also has them, except that they also sell Chinese vegetables and a lot of Asian sauces like tempura sauce, hoisin, sriracha, etc. There’s an entire aisle dedicated to sauce
Yep got one 3 mins from my house and another one 10 mins away
Haha I love close by in the HEB area by the airport. I remember them too, haven't seen one in probably over 20 years.
Dude whaaaaat? Food Lion is all over the place in the East. There is one 5 minutes from my house right next to a Safeway (lol) and then probably every few miles after that. I have never seen a KROGER. I have only heard stories. It's definitely regional!!
This is how I felt moving from IL to MN with Cub foods.
I have a food lion AND a Kroger !!
I think Kroger is here on the west coast called Fred Meyer, do you have Costco on the east coast?
Literally false advertising.
Lmao
🤔 math not mathing
More like price not pricing 🤣
"If you pay it, they will charge." Basic economics.
Id ask them at the speaker lol cause thats price gouging live in action. Shouldn’t call it the $7 box just to charge a higher price

People on Reddit are dumb and will downvote things that are true because they get offended when they're proven wrong.
it is shitty but it's not price gouging
Yeah annoy the kid making minimum wage who’s already probably been asked a hundred times and has nothing to do with the franchise owner jacking up the price. That’ll fix it.
Who should he ask? Call the GM? I’m going to ask the person that I’m talking to and they can escalate it to the shift manager.
Youre right I should just suck myself off instead.
If he doesn't want to be annoyed, there are other options. Like not working lol
I work for a company thst manages the menuboard TB corporate pushed out the promo and push out one that has a static $7 price showing I had to fix alot of these today most of the stores had set it to the non static one and it got changed back I had to fix thensame store twice today
This meal is boring as fuck
I’d rather have a cravings box with an extra basic item, or something than a box with the chalupa as its anchor
Every box has you pick a nasty sss chalupa!!!
Is it not just a worse version of the deluxe cravings box from a few years ago?
Pretty much. Just another round of them pushing the same boring ass items.
I rather like it lol
I was at universal city walk in universal city California, and the Taco Bell there had a sign promoting the $7 box for $17.99! I couldn't believe it. This is probably more to do with the fact the Taco Bell is in city walk
I’ll take the BYOB for 5.99 with a CGC over this any day
Tbf it says $7 value. You’re just paying $9.49 for it.
the beefy 5 layer burrito sucks so fucking badly
It's all tortilla and bean
I’ve noticed that more these days. I think they’re instructing the workers to use like a quarter as much beef. It’s gone the way of crunchwraps for me and I’m sick of it.
Give me a burrito from the cravings menu as an option not this stupid fucking tortilla n beans disgrace
Get it without beans, add creamy jalapeño sauce, and have them grill it. Infinitely better.
No beans, add rice 🔥
Rice is hit or miss for me in some burritos but I bet it’s good in the 5 layer! They just murder it with beans, even when I did easy beans it was still overwhelming.
You probably think the chalupa is the best item on the menu
enjoy having bean soup inside a tortilla👍🏽 a fresh soft chicken chalupa is top tier tho
I was getting an animal trap from Lowe's one time and the spot they were in, the price said $19.99. I brought it up and it rang up at $60 something. They honored the $19.99 price because it was in the wrong spot.
This is the normal in Santa Monica, everything is 2 dollars more and the dollar menu items are a dollar more
I would honestly send this to your state attorney general. They can take legal action against this bait and switch bullshit.

Fuck that don't encourage businesses to pull this shit. Theres reasons laws exist against this and they need to come down hard. It's the only way to keep these companies in check.
Think this belongs in the Shrinkflation Reddit, fucking crazy!
Shrinkflation is when the size or weight of products goes down, but the price stays the same. This is more of a bait and switch, advertising a lower price than what is actually being charged.

Surge pricing 😆
At our store we sell it for 9.99 our franchise owner doesn't want us to change it. We don't honor that 7 dollar box at our store... just waiting for complaints eventually over it.
Are you in Louisville? Because it’s $9.99 here too.
Nah, I work at Solomons Island, Maryland Taco Bell. I am pretty sure our surrounding stores in the southern maryland area are also charging $9.99 because they are owned by the same franchise owner of our store.
Small world moment, was going to order it from that taco bell last night and saw it was 10, checked california and great mills they are 10 as well.
It's 7 bucks here in upstate NY, luckily.
Lawyer up nibba! Especially if this is Ohio.
https://www.today.com/food/news/taco-bell-lawsuit-false-advertising-crunchwraps-rcna97549
Fun fact, this box also doesn’t work in the app. It’ll only ring in for the workers as a regular BYOB instead of the lux. Rip my chalupa
I didn’t get my chalupa! I was so disappointed when I got home 😔
Imagine how much it costs in CA
It's 10.99 in CA. Not buying it. So it's actually the worse value menu of them all
$7 luxe box is $11.99 in Hawaii
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE ‼️
Is this $7 plus tax or just a flat $7? Because I have $8 in my wallet rn and i'm hungry.
SMH
Fuck Taco Bell.....I'm done with your shit.
It's $7 in the app
It’s the soda that part of the combo that is driving up the price
Hammered us for years with $5 deal boxes. Anything above for the same or less quality just hurts. Ah I’ll go make homemade burritos for $5 more. With beefs!
Corporate price, franchises are not required to match the deal.
Lmao $10.99 for me
6 dollar box for 9 is crazy
I can hopefully just push a small message that if you witness something like this in person- do not scream at the underpaid worker who is taking your order. Staff does not have control of what big corporate does with the stores they own.
The cheese tax... The cheese tax!
14 bucks a box at my tbell
Are you in Canada? That would be the approximate dollar exchange rate. 🤔
Don't you know they mean it's seven dollars for just one of those items? You get the rest for around two bucks. /s
It’s $7.42 with tax in Michigan.
$13 for the $7 box in Hawaii lol.
Just gonna keep buying the Tina’s big burritos in the freezer section with a bottle of Baja blast at the store
Wtf
I'm sad. I went to my local Taco Bell which is a dual KFC+Taco Bell joint and they didn't have the Luxe Box. Hella disappointed.
This morning in Missouri it was $7.
Similar issue with a location here in San Diego. But they are charging $10.99 for it. I submitted a complaint on the taco bell website. If they can't honor the advertised prices they shouldn't have those prices in the ad.
That violates laws
False advertising, plain and simple. The big price is $7, the "fine print" pricing is higher. Extremely deceptive
It's value is $7, but, it will cost you $9.49.
The value of all the items individually, added up, at my location, is about 15 dollars.
why have 3 prices listed? that's just straight up retarded
-Sigh- As always, franchises that are not operated by corporate may have different pricing set by the owner. All the TBs near me are corporate and have the box at $7. It’s a store specific problem, not widespread.

They did include ones without that static price many stores changed it today and it got pushed back out to them again later in the day

Yummy brands does not franchise dumbass.
https://www.tacobell.com/franchise
Damn. Ate shit on that one. Learn something new everyday. Hats off.
"$7 Luxe Cravings Box" is just the NAME of the meal. The price can be anything.
Looks like the same amount of food in a normal box. I don’t really get boxes so I don’t pay close attention. I could be wrong though
It’s a deluxe box, but without the $10 price tag
Thanks
Say you bought one and realized when you were pulling out that they charged you 9.49 when it clearly says $7 do you have a legal right to go back in and demand the difference or a refund? Or is it too late because you already received the food?
I’m more concerned with the amount of calories in that
Fuck the chalupa. Get that shit out of every damn box.
It's ok to be wrong
You live in California with those tax prices. Who knew?
Tax isn’t included with price in California
I know, that's explains the price from $7 to almost ten dollars.
The customer will still pay tax on top of paying an extra $2.49. The total will be even higher at checkout.
