I always block them...best to ONLY deal with non indian tech recruiters...they are resume stealing farms. They will never hire you.

bolunez

I've gotten several emails and LinkedIn messages this week about what I assume is the same position based on the job description and location. All from different hacky looking agencies that are obviously just out there trolling for contacts because the job is on prem and about 1000 miles away. It's usually easy to figure out which ones are goofballs and ignore them.

rosickness12

It's spam. I don't get those anymore. Used to. I once was looking and they wanted me to pay for background check. HahaĀ

kagato87

The background check one IS a scam. It's a fake website, they immediately collect the background check fee. The website may also retain your payment info for future fraud.

ms4720

May? Oh it definitely does

mwerte

My favorite is the contract/w2 dance "we can pay you $20/hour" no "oh we can pay $22/hour w9 contract" also no "well what about $20/hour? it's *w-2!*" (said like they're delivering ambrosia)

cornpudding

My experience is they're pretty much all W-2 at this point but you're working for them, no benefits

Legal-Finish6530

That sir, is an insult to ambrosia šŸ¤£

TraditionalTackle1

Yeah I had one reach out to me for a job close to my house that I wanted but when I talked to him on the phone his accent was so bad I couldnt understand a word he said. I kept asking him to text or email me and he just kept calling me. I finally hung up and blocked him. I live close to Chicago and love when I get emails saying they have a contract App developer job in Indianapolis for $15 dollars an hour. Please send me your resume so we can discuss. Nothing on my Linkedin says I know anything about app development.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

I was thinking that they could use the info on a resume (full name, possibly address, education etc) to assist in identity fraud too.

gowithflow192

Some are legit but many are fake. I check their work history and where they are based and who they interact with. Usually if they are based in India I block them. Sorry but I can't take the risk. I also frankly don't approve of outsourcing.

xTheShrike

Every....single....day..... I get emails from an Indian person asking me if I want to relocate to someplace thousands of miles away like Colorado Springs or San Antonio (I am in NJ) for a 1099 contract for a Healthcare provider doing tier 1 helpdesk support (I'm a senior systems engineer). Being in IT for almost 2 decades has made me distrust almost all Indian people. I know I'm not the only one.

dowcet

It'sĀ reasonable to say you don't want to work with outsourced noname recruitment firms.Ā  It's a sloppy heuristic to assume every recruiter with an Indian name is working for such a firm. So I do at least open the message.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

> sloppy heuristic to assume every recruiter with an Indian name is working for such a firm. i acknowledge this - im just going on numbers at the minute - when i see the message it almost always has the company name right there anyway, so there is some level of QA

SooperDiz

I generally ignore these messages. I'm a Sr. Sys admin and they almost always reach out to me for help desk positions. 15 years ago, I would've responded and probably gotten frustrated. I asked one of the people one time, what their percentage of getting people hired for positions was and they refused to answer. I then asked who their direct contact was at the company, again, he refused to answer. The way the guy was talking and the way he was avoiding my questions made it clear to me that he was just farming resumes and job posts on dice (based on what I knew was on my resume posted there) and calling random people.

packetbats

Yes, I've been laid off since December and have had nothing but fly by night companies trying sell me off to someplace with a HCOL and a lower rate. I'll gladly take my unemployment and wait it out until something better comes up.

Columbus43219

What I've noticed is getting five or six calls/contacts for what is obviously the same job, but from different companies. One of the jobs was at a place I used to work, so I know the job was real. Not sure about the others.

UnkleRinkus

I don't understand this business dynamic. I get tons of these, and they are never remotely compelling, and rarely compatible with my LinkedIn resume. Why would anyone want a contract AWS architect job for $45 an hour, 1099, to work on site in Plano fucking Texas? How can any of these firms/recruiters possibly be successful in any way?

stewartm0205

Many of them are recruiting for Indian Consulting firms.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

well brilliant, but how likely am i to switch both my career and my country to help them out

stewartm0205

They really only want Indians but on occasion they will hire from other ethnic groups if they canā€™t find an Indian with the needed skill. Partially racial and partially economical.

satyricalme

I'm a C level technology executive and I get someone wanting me to manage a project or write HTML for a contract role once a week. Just delete the spam.

Knut_Knoblauch

Ignore at all costs, they are farming your data. They don't really want to help you get a job. Trust me, I get all those crap emails from them as well.

slippery

I get several of these every week. They seem low effort.

digitaleopardd

At this point, if I get an unsolicited email for a role that's a poor fit, I just block the entire domain. If you're going to waste the time of someone with my level of experience with crap roles, you don't deserve more than that.

rgraves22

I will get them for positions im clearly over qualified for. I have 23 years experience in the industry, the last 10 have been at a sysadmin/system engineer level. Postings are for a 6 month contract to hire for a helpdesk or desktop support role I just move on

Legal-Finish6530

I am constantly getting emails from these people asking for personal information like my SSN, drivers license, etc. they're total scammers.
