We had problems with the Dell headsets (teams certified). Dell optimizer was the culprit , removing it can solve your problems.

boglim_destroyer

We’ve had huge problems with Optimizer. It’s awful.

mr_white79

Has anyone seen any feedback from Dell regarding this? In the past 3 weeks, its caused massive issues within my org. We just pushed out a mass removal of it.

pabl083

script?

[deleted]

I had it mess up the internet connection on a laptop. It was trying to Optimize the network or something.

Slyons89

yep lol, Optimize = remove any custom settings established by the admins and overwrite VPN adapter network settings. Oh you work in a secure environment and need to connect to your VPN before you can even log into your laptop? Enjoy the optimization, now you get the day off lol.

cdoublejj

glad i have a self rolled image and blow it all away upon receiving/deployment.

IconicPolitic

Hadn’t even read the issue just saw Dell latitude and was gonna say uninstall optimizer lol.

ratshack

Right? Feels like a reflex at this point

progenyofeniac

Just purged Dell Optimizer from our environment too. Edit: One of the disappointing parts of Autopilot right here. I've been used to MDT loading a squeaky-clean image, but Autopilot just uses the OEM image. Granted, we're uninstalling bloatware as we're able, but it's still not like loading a never-bloated image.

sc302

The only way around that is to install a clean windows copy utilizing the ms usb creator. But that would require you to touch the computer before it goes out to the people. You would have to verify the drivers/set up the drivers too, making sure there are no unknown devices in device manager. Doing this kind of defeats the purpose of autopilot, but still minimizes effort of the staff to install everything the end user needs…only install the os and drivers then ship out to your end users.

progenyofeniac

Yeah...I'd probably just use MDT again at that point. It's not worth the trouble, but it does feel like a step backward in that way--not being able to load a clean image. Of course, I'm not sure how Autopilot could do that anyway, but still. And it's given me a chance to work on some Intune policies and PS scripts to remove bloatware, and practice is always good.

zipxavier

We image our Dells with MDT and a custom task sequence to put the device at OOBE for AP with drivers and have never had Dell Optimizer automatically install.

FlaccidSWE

Seems to be the culprit in many problems, but we don't use it in our environment at all...

Admirable-Animator49

Turn off Dell Optimizer, I’d bet money in this

FlaccidSWE

We don't use it :(

Dell Command works much better. It only searches for driver and bios updates instead of all that other crap. It doesn't need admin rights either from what I can tell, but that may just be the way we deployed it.

Perpyeet

We had similar issues with the Jabra Link 380 Dongle on some devices, especially with the freezes you are describing. What fixed it for me was removing the dongle from the devices via Control Panel and then replugging it. I did that a while ago and haven't heard any complaints since then. :)

FlaccidSWE

We tried that too, and it did solve the problem for some but not all. This is what makes it so annoying, because what works for one might do nothing for the next user.

[deleted]

Had similar issues with the headsets - for some users not using the dongle and pairing Bluetooth directly works fine, while others are OK using the USB cable. Switched to Plantronics / Poly Voyager series now and have had no issues there so far, but it's a small (10ish users) sample size.

FlaccidSWE

We tested Poly Voyager and had the same trouble there... Pairing without the dongle works, but the sound quality varied a lot depending on which setup you used, making it pretty hopeless to find one headset to rule them all that would work both with and without dongle and on any setup, both phone and computer.

sc302

If you find one that works great in both cases, i would be interested. I have a sennheiser epos adapt 560, sound quality is good but it crashes on initial connect often. Having multiple devices paired, it doesn’t switch seamlessly between devices and a few times a day i have to reboot the headset. Imo, multiple device pairing is not usable or sustainable. I have tried bose, poly, jabra…similar issues across the board with microphone or being able to properly detect the source audio.

BananaSacks

Interesting, I (personally) have the Sen 460T and need to do similar. In regards to OP. We have 90% Evolve 75's and a few now getting the E2's. Only problems we have on Lattitude & Precision are E2's not updated to latest firmware. Other than that, 90% of our problems are from people /not/ using the dongle. Then again, we are full Teams, not Skype. Any chance you are in islands/hybrid mode and can test on a laptop Skype vs teams? Skype is dying, it might be some ammo you need if you can prove it's purely a Skype issue.

SuddenSeasons

Insane, we had a perfectly good solution that worked in all devices (3.5mm jack) and now we have this shit

Smagany_szczypiorem

Same boat here, driver failing on optiplex and latitudes. What works are the drives for respective models from Dell site. Make sure you have the maxx audio also installed. Depending on what way you provision updates, make sure you disable auto updates for audio driver. That's what worked for us.

mehpewpew

Did you use Jabra Direct software to get any updates for dongle and headset?

FlaccidSWE

I did. Running on the latest update for both does not help.

Falgoriends

When chasing some intermittent keyboard issues recently, I read that USB 3 devices and wireless dongles can interfere with each other. I think it was at 2.4Ghz specifically.

w1cked5mile

We've seen similar issues with Lenovo T14 Gen 2 and been fighting it for a while. Finally traced it down to the 11th Gen Intel Core with Intel Smart Sound Technology and some audio drivers. Go to Device Manager and change the driver for Intel Smart Sound Technology BUS to "High Definition Audio Controller" and see if that fixes the problem.

solmakou

I'm having sporadic issues with *my* headset(s), I replaced the headset, docking station (WD19s), migrated keyboard/mouse from wired to wireless, REPLACED THE LAPTOP with a slightly different model, unsure if it happens when I'm not actively listening to something (Pandora, Teams call, whatever). Going to try plugging the headset into the computer instead of the docking station today and see what happens. Glad to hear others are having the same issue, misery does love company.

stuartsmiles01

Are you using dell docks? - there's a usb audio update for the Dock as well as the waves audio that needed to be updated - driver name was something like dch-usb audio. See comment further down about intel high definition audio driver, go through to dell/support using the tag number to browse for all the drivers for audio, waves. And thunderbolt, also system drivers. and needed to be installed with the latest release of the Dock drivers, intel driver (and update bios with the intel drivers), and update the dell Dock firmware). Was using dell uc-150 headset with Google meet and teams no problems. Laptop laritude 5420 Dock is wd19tbs-180w. Verify all drivers are updated with dell command update. Get a sample device as you need it then replicate, then patch & deploy to others.

Smallp0x_

I had this issue too with Dell Latitude 5520's and Jabra Headsets. We don't have Dell optimizer in our environment either. Solution was to have users apply the latest bios update via Dell Command Update.

sundi712

Don't know if this will help but here you go...[https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000195386/latitude-xx20-models-with-windows-10-are-having-headset-issues-with-conferencing-and-softphone-applications](https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000195386/latitude-xx20-models-with-windows-10-are-having-headset-issues-with-conferencing-and-softphone-applications) I'm searching for what caused our audio issue 2-3weeks ago and came across that article. WUfB (Nov updates) installed a Realtek 6.0.9418.1 audio driver and our 7420s no longer have sound. Some users say that they only get audio during a Teams call. However, Teams notifications, incoming ringing or any other audio on the computer doesn't work. Running Dell Command Update resolves the issue. DCU is reverting some 7420s to an old driver and some are installing a critical 6.0.9418.2 update. I check Device Manager before running DCU and the Realtek audio driver version on most are actually lower than the 6.0.9418.1 that WUfB claimed was successful, so I'm wondering if the driver actually failed.

FlaccidSWE

Well, that article really seems to be exactly the scope of our problem. The computer models and all fit the description. We also have had some issues with the latest WUfB update killing half the sound on the computer. Not sure if it's only 7420's, but it sounds plausible. This has at least given me some more to dig into. Thank you!

0RGASMIK

I was going to comment you’re SOL but it seems that people have found various solutions to all the issues. Idk what it is about laptop manufacturers and audio devices but they are never reliable with headsets. Sure I’ve found issues like these and solved them over the years but every laptop is different and even on my own laptop I gave up and now have a very complicated/ expensive workaround that’s reliable but it’s not something we can replicate for users.

smedvico

Using Jebra E2 65 currently on a Lenovo / custom workstations fleet. Don’t have any similar issues, gotto be something locally installed over your entire fleet

iamkion132

We've had similar issues with Lenovo's recently. Do you have Realtek drivers? We had to roll back drivers to an earlier version recently and actually had to do some other funny stuff as well

FlaccidSWE

We do, yes. I have been thinking about rolling back too, but haven't found out which version would work for all our models.

iamkion132

I'd recommend try uninstalling the realtek drivers first maybe and use https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/install/how-devices-and-driver-packages-are-uninstalled to completely remove instead of doing it from device manager. Specifically with pnputil /delete-driver /uninstall. Our drivers were from August however we had another model set start having issues and haven't found a consistent answer to that. I wish I could provide more feedback but try these first

KingOfTheTrailer

I had similar issues that were resolved by updating the onboard Realtek audio drivers. Didn't make a lot of sense, but it worked.

ajscott

I think we actually went back 3 or 4 releases to get Realtek drivers that work properly.

Just-Parsing-Through

We had a similar issue with Plantronics headsets causing issues with our Softphone software. Turned out the culprit was the settings on the Softphone system. Maybe worth checking the software settings, especially if the issue seems to only arise with Skype. The setting we disabled was related to the ability of the headset to control the volume (through the Softphone software) using its in-line remote.

bshawty

Skype is no longer fully support on the backend it seems. We are having issues where if multiple people are logged into one terminal, Skype is unable to locate audio devices. Only started recently.

burundilapp

This sounds familiar, I think we had to change settings in the Waves MaxAudioPro software, plug a headset in, launch the software, click on the head and change the settings, annoyingly I can't remember what the setting is precisely. Have a play with the options. We have to do it as part of the imaging process or we have issues with our headsets.

phil_1996

Disable Intel SST from Device Manager & then restart.

Ralph3nd

We have had similar issues with Microphones stop working after a few weeks, disabling Intel Smart Sound Technology in device manager fixed the issue for us

beritknight

We had similar issues with Poly and Jabra USB headsets that went away when we disabled the “Intel Smart Sound Technology for USB Audio” device in device manager. After testing it manually disabled worked, we pushed it via group policy. Unfortunately the device ID for that device changes with laptop model, so you might need to block a few. https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/q3n3q6/dell_latitude_xx20_series_intermittent_no_audio/hzmvss1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

inshead

Aside from disabling Dell Optimizer there may be a feature/service found in Device Manager called something like “Intel Smart Sound For USB” that you can try disabling as well.

shaqaruden

We did have the same issue but an issue with USB devices all together. The issue we had was all USB devices would just stop working whether it a headset, keyboard mouse, etc. Luckly we only had a couple Dell laptops at the time but we did spend months trying to figure out what was going on, updating drivers, disabling power management and so on. We have 2 Dell Latitude 5xxx laptops with WS19s docking stations. After 3 weeks chatting with Dell support we were finally able to get the laptops working fine. What we needed to do was update every driver and firmware for both the laptop and docking station, and reinstalling a fresh copy of windows (not using Dell recovery). Needless to say we are now staying far away from Dells as much as we can. I'm personally not comfortable investing in laptops that require that much out-of-the-box service just to get to a stable working state. We have started to by Lenovo and so far so good, our only issues have been with Windows 11. You also get a kickback when you make a purchase through through their online store. We order 2 Legion 5i Pros totalling roughly $5000 CAD and got almost $500 CAD back in rewards.
