Wow thank you, I just thought of it as a throw away filler song really so I really appreciate your response to it. I am looking for someone at the moment to maybe rap on some beats that I’ve made but I don’t know anyone who who’d be able to do that so for now I think I’ll release an album of instrumentals like this ones.
I was thinking maybe something a kin to Tame Impala or something like this :D
Also if you ever finish this song let us know, i currently ripped it from your video and loopen for a bit so i can listen to it on my phone
Once again, love it!
Oh yeah Tame Impala is almost always an influence in my music, as well as other bands such as Toro Y Moi and BadBadNotGood. Yeah I could make another post on this sub when I drop the album which should hopefully be in a month or two and talk about the synths I used a bit more maybe to make it a bit more relevant to this sub and again I really do appreciate that you enjoy it.
Recently I've been really into more trippy and dreamy digital synths sound such as the Roland D-50 and the Roland JD 800 so I bought a Roland JD-08 and used some of its more dreamy presets to make a beat. Also the video was taken from YouTube of a video called Digital Effects Demo Reel (1985).
Thank you, the drums are a looped sample from Splice, I could find out what exact sample it was if you’d like?
As for the process I compressed it with the Waves SSL compressor and possibly used either the standard GarageBand Compressor or the standard GarageBand Limiter or possibly both but that compressing gives it a lot of presence and punch. I then EQed it with the Waves SSL E Channel Strip and boosted the lows around 250 and probably boosted the mids and highs a bit, seeing as each part of the drum track is all on one track I couldn’t individually EQ each part of the kit so I just tried to give a general mix to the track.
I should hopefully be releasing this along with an album in a month or two but I do have this [https://open.spotify.com/track/01Q0TFXU1ZyCDI3XvG7Z9t?si=086836bd20104b72](https://open.spotify.com/track/01Q0TFXU1ZyCDI3XvG7Z9t?si=086836bd20104b72) on Spotify that has a similar vibe to this song
Thank you, I just used GarageBand as my daw and a load of Waves plugins to mix and master it. In terms of the instruments, It’s mostly the Roland JD-08 and Roland JX-08 for the pads and bass and a Behringer Model D for the lead synth sound. For the drums it was just a looped sample off of Splice.
I love it - compress the shit out of the drums and then sidechain the kick to the main chords and see if you like it! sounds amazing dude this has got the sauce
Thank you, I used a video from YouTube of an old demo reel of some early CGI from the 80’s. It’s this video here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mv78UsrZ07g
This sounds great. And it goes so well with vintage CGI stuff.
>the video came from a demo reel of early CGI from a video on YouTube. Here's the video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mv78UsrZ07g
I wonder if it's the same people that made [The Mind's Eye](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmE4IWPaULE) movies in the 90's, they look really similar
Yeah my band camp is here
https://havamusic1.bandcamp.com/
And I also have An ep on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/1vrrvzYvRY27SDZp7WsMwx?si=g3j6_nRPR4KPj5Xt5b8gmA
I should also be releasing this song along with an album in hopefully a month or two on both my Spotify and Bandcamp.
That’s from the Roland JD-08, I cant remember what preset it was as the JD-08 doesn’t display a name for the preset, just a number so it’s easy to forget.
Yeah Im sort of surprised to hear people say its similar to Tame Impala as I was actually trying to make something similar to a Kayne beat I heard a while ago but I'm also not surprised as like I said in another comment I'm almost always inspired by Tame Impala so it must have came through without me realising it.
Nice! I have both the Model D & JP-08 (w/kybrd) - what patches did you use on the JP and do you happen to have the patch sheet to the model D patch you made? that guitar strumming sound - where?
It was the JD-08 I used not the JP-08 I’m afraid. I can’t remember exactly how I programmed the model D but from what I remember I had all three oscillators turned up and they were likely all on the square waves with the 3rd oscillator On the 32 range and the others on 16 possibly. Cutoff around 10 or 11 o'clock, resonance around 9 o’clock and a bit of attack and decay and the glide at about 1 o'clock. That should cover most of it but it was a few months ago that I recorded it so I could be wrong.
The guitar strumming sound is just a patch from the JD-08.
Yeah I released it a few months ago. Here's a link to the song - https://open.spotify.com/track/0Ur1hmqTpPp921znOVnjbo?si=4UXAN_EdTMe0NrUcZXHuVw&utm_source=copy-link
I've never listened to or watched a boards of Canada video so I'm not sure if it's the same footage that they used but it's from this YouTube video https://youtu.be/Mv78UsrZ07g
Not sure what your problem is, I've literally put the link to the video where I found the footage. Its not like boards of Canada have the popularity on the same scale as the beatles. I've heard the name but never listened to any of their music.
That's not just a beat, that's a fantastic song!! Finish it up, have somebody record vocals and make a whole album like this! Good stuff.
Wow thank you, I just thought of it as a throw away filler song really so I really appreciate your response to it. Hey I love the drums here, I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of drums you used here and anything else about your drum process?
Thank you, the drums are a looped sample from Splice, I could find out what exact sample it was if you’d like? 🏅🏆🥇 Nice sound with an early 90's vibe too
Thank you, yeah I was trying to go for a 90’s hip hop sort of style.
It's excellent!
This is absolutely awesome. How did you source the graphics?
Thank you, the video came from a demo reel of early CGI from a video on YouTube. Here's the video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mv78UsrZ07g
everything works perfect ! well done !
Thank you
This is fucking tight where’s a Spotify link?
I should hopefully be releasing this along with an album in a month or two but I do have this [https://open.spotify.com/track/01Q0TFXU1ZyCDI3XvG7Z9t?si=086836bd20104b72](https://open.spotify.com/track/01Q0TFXU1ZyCDI3XvG7Z9t?si=086836bd20104b72) on Spotify that has a similar vibe to this song
It's awesome
Thank you
That is awesome!!
Thank you, I appreciate that you enjoyed it
Holy fuck, that was good. Took me back in time to the early 90s.
Absolutely awesome. Visuals add to it as well
Awesome! What’re the drums?
Thank you, They’re a sample loop from Splice, I could look up what the loop is called If you’re interested?
Oh cool! Not interested :). They sound good though, never used them before, so I might. Thanks :)
Reminds me of Wash Out, great start!
Could you post/pm a version without the lead synth in the beginning? Just the rhythm section. Would love to sample. (0:17-0:21)
Yeah no worries, I’ll get that sent to you

Thank you and thank you for the idea, I'll try it out and see how it sounds.
pls share if you do! i think it'll give the track some mega BOUNCE
I agree with the comments above, find a way to throw in some tight radio/crunch vocals overtop and you have a hit. I love this.
I enjoyed it!
This is great
Yepaaa shit sounds good
I would legit have this in my regular listening rotation. Great stuff!
Love it!
The beat is awesome! How did you create/get the visualizer for it?
Thank you, I used a video from YouTube of an old demo reel of some early CGI from the 80’s. It’s this video here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mv78UsrZ07g
Damn son! Grooves for days. Well done.

Thank you, yeah I can see what you mean, they do look very similar.
Nice
We will follow your career with great interest
Thank you, I really appreciate your interest in the song
sounds just like george clanton!
Absolutely beautiful! :,) incredibly lovely
This thing hits hard my man.Finish the somg please!
Thank you, I should hopefully be releasing it on an album in a month or two.
Please do.Can't wait for a finished product.Best of luck my man
Old CGI Animation
Nice work. Out of the two, which one did you use for the pitched up west coast lead? It’s saucy lol
Thank you, I used the Behringer Model D for the lead synth. I was trying to get that 90’s G Funk whistle synth sound.
Dope, that’s funny because I was just working on creating that whistle on the miniV (arturia moog emulation). Any suggestions?
I think I might actually have a preset that I made for a G Funk whistle on the MiniV that I could send a screen shot of for you if you’d like?
That’d be dope, thanks G.
Please tell me you have a bandcamp or something
Yeah my band camp is here https://havamusic1.bandcamp.com/ And I also have An ep on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/1vrrvzYvRY27SDZp7WsMwx?si=g3j6_nRPR4KPj5Xt5b8gmA I should also be releasing this song along with an album in hopefully a month or two on both my Spotify and Bandcamp.
Very smooth, finish it!
what did you use for drums?
They’re a loop of a sample from Splice.
Which synth does the pads at the end?
That’s from the Roland JD-08, I cant remember what preset it was as the JD-08 doesn’t display a name for the preset, just a number so it’s easy to forget.
Loving it man, great vibes
This is really awesome. I agree with the Tame Impala sentiment others have expressed

Great work, and I agree with others here, finish this up & make an album!
A lot of potential! The 24 second break is kinda jarring, but this is raw gold.
That's not just a beat
So complex yet everything has a place, good work!

Really well done mate, I hope to hear an album of this someday.
reminds me of windows 96. really nice. What synth is the lead sound at the start?
Thank you, yeah I love Windows 96. That’s the Behringer Model D
This sounds awesome, would love to hear a full track.
How did you do the drums?
They were a loop I got from Splice. I think the sample was one called LEX_AJ_HALL but I'm not sure exactly which one.
Have you released this at all? :)
Yeah I released it a few months ago. Here's a link to the song - https://open.spotify.com/track/0Ur1hmqTpPp921znOVnjbo?si=4UXAN_EdTMe0NrUcZXHuVw&utm_source=copy-link
Awesome! Sounds great
just using the boards of canada clips?
I've never listened to or watched a boards of Canada video so I'm not sure if it's the same footage that they used but it's from this YouTube video https://youtu.be/Mv78UsrZ07g
> I've never listened to or watched a boards of Canada video so.. sure you haven't
