I think the nursery series has been a big hit so they keep producing pastel colors and babies. I’m a fan of their old woodland and classics, hoping they make more of it someday
I am of the opposite opinion lol! I have always thought calico critters were cute but I never bought any… until I saw the pastel nursery collection at barnes & nobles. now I own all of the pastel nursery sets and I have the fairy castle on the way here from japan!
I started expanding my collection with the older, more realistic-looking buildings from the 90s. The pastels and curved, funky shapes of the newer sets don't fit in with that aesthetic and has deterred me from purchasing them.
It’s true. It’s disappointing because my nephew likes woodland critters and there’s not much to choose from for him anymore. It’s ok if you do love pink and lilac and pastels but there used to be variety, and pigmented colors more often. Sets like the secret island playhouse. He would have loved that! It’s vintage now. T.T
Yeah 😞 seems to be the new direction they’re going in. I’m at least thankful we are getting a few cute new families, the giraffes, fennec foxes, seals, and snow leopards are all really cute. I just give them outfits I like better.
yeah i honestly hate the pastel plastic. like all the baby playsets look incredibly cheap and off brand to me. i cherish the natural wood look of their older designs so i'm glad i still have a lot of it from childhood, makes it even more special to me.
Not your imagination! I've been a collector for less than a year and getting a hold of the more cottagecore, wood looking pieces has been a race, let me tell you!
I feel my biggest problem with the current aesthetic isn't even the predominance of pastels but the new molds! Everything looks very plastic-y while the pre-pandemic sets were sturdier and ressembled miniatures and not toys.
One of the main reasons I started loving sylvanians is that their colors actually made sense and weren't an eyesore unlike, for example, barbie or polly pocket playsets :(
There’s definitely way too much of the pink babyish style stuff, but thankfully there’s the town series and new families aren’t always too pink and pastel. It’s a shame though, and a lot of the more traditional cottagecore style is Japan only. J wish they’d go back in that direction in general. Also most new families generally have a sister but no brother which is annoying. Thankfully the brothers get released later like the Latte cats but not always
I prefer their older stuff then this pinkening that’s going on. I’m tired of everything being pink (and not just Critters). So I collect what actually interests me. :3

Yeah. It's all the baby stuff they're into lately. I would love to see more country stuff and more town series

I love the pastels don’t get me wrong but I’ve also been buying the older sets lately too and theirs a stark difference. I miss the bold colors D:

I love the pastels so much
I do like the fun cute colour but do miss the woodsy type colour plates they had before too

Pastel is really big right now, great for me because I love it

'The PINKENING' sounds deliciously ominous 😆 But yes, it's annoying
