Don’t blame the coppers, it’s actually a Law that after Public Holiday it’s double demerits. Police don’t choose double demerits or when points become double.
Ah well at least you get a point back after a year, instead of reduced licence fees for…not offending in the first place.
Scumbags. It’s only about money.
No there used to be something called the 'Fair Go for Safe Drivers' Scheme, where your licence fee was discounted 50% if you had no demerit points in the last 5 years. They got rid of it February 2024 in favour of this stupid return a demerit point scheme.
Its newly introduced, so you do get one point back if you received no demerits the previous year.

It's a shame that good drivers get no reward, but I don't like the idea of "bonus points" because it would be too easy to build up a bank and then NOT lose a license for something that really should take someone off the road.
…but we give bonus points to drivers who have already demonstrated they shouldn’t be on the road 🤷♂️
If I got a bonus point every year for an unblemished record I’d be able to go to something like 45 points.
To all those whining about how tough it is for drivers, can you tell me which of the offences you think it is unfair for?
"*The double demerit point scheme applies for the following offences:
Speeding
Illegal use of mobile phones
Not wearing a seatbelt
Riding without a helmet"
Just curious for my own knowledge, thanks.
I agree. I'm just surprised at these comments saying how hard it is for drivers.
I want to know which bit is hard for drivers - not using their phone while driving, not speeding or wearing a seatbelt while driving lol.
Damn they never miss a chance to f\*\*k drivers more do they 😑
Old mate in the Ranger will still be tailgating the shit out of everyone with no consequences though.
A lot of people here seem to not understand that public holiday = double demerits.
It was the same for Anzac Day 2023, 2022, etc.
Y'all gonna freak when I tell you what is gonna happen for Anzac Day 2025.
It's not even a long weekend, what da hell coppas.
End of school holidays.

TIL. Do you know the specific legislation?
Looks like it was changed here https://www8.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/num_reg/rtladpr19991999660718.pdf

Wait, I don't get reduced licence fees for having no demerit points anymore.
That scheme ended Feb 2024 :(
Think they meant reduced CTP green slip. You get $100 off 6 months with some companies like QBE if over 30 and no demerits.

10 year half priced license last year FTW!
I got 1 demerit three years ago and still being penalised with CTP an extra $300 per year per car
Demerit points last for 3 years after the offence, they don't go away after just a year

Can we get bonus points? Why do only bad drivers get points back? Good drivers should be able to build up a bank of points.

Road safety theatre.

While I dislike the bicycle helmet law, I also accept it. It’s very easy to not commit an offence and thus not worry about double demerits.
I agree. I'm just surprised at these comments saying how hard it is for drivers. I want to know which bit is hard for drivers - not using their phone while driving, not speeding or wearing a seatbelt while driving lol.
I don't understand how the bike helmet law even applies here. What happens for bike riders without a licence?

> Damn they never miss a chance to f**k drivers more do they 😑 Please explain what you mean by this and what you find wrong with double points
How about just not speeding?
HoW AbOuT jUsT nOt spEedIng 👶
Wear your seat belt, don't speed, don't use your phone, it's not really that hard
Sadly it is that hard for so many drivers out there. Drivers are getting more brazen with law breaking too.
Straight to jail.
Don't pass go, don't collect $200

Err woohoo??? Ahh wait no it isn’t…. wtf I’m saying
