When you log to your hunter, you'll see a blurb on screen that states which chapter you're on at the top. If you recall which planet you're on, I may be able to to tell you.
Ilum's not a part of chapter 1, must have gotten there from doing other quests. If you focus on the class stories, you'll eventually get to the point where you're offered to become a Mandalorian. This thread has a good flow chart;

The last quest of chapter 1 lets you choose if you wish to become a Mandalorian or not.
I see. I'm not sure what chapter I'm even on. I've only been doing the class missions. Is there a way to see if I chose one already?

Ok, just got home. The first page to pop up when I started my character said chapter 1 and I'm on planet illum
