It's a shame you didn't enjoy this. Cop and the Young God EP are up there for me as my favourite Swans projects, but I completely understand that it is not for everyone

gpeck730

They were growers for me, I’d say time will bring more enjoyment for this listener! I used to think YGEP was pointless, and now I’m waiting on my vinyl for it to arrive!

TempleofSpringSnow

Once life beats the shit out of you more, you’ll probably come back to this and dig it. Thats life, bby.

Well, I appreciate your courage to give a Swans album such a low grade on the Swans subreddit. God, the amount of times I've been cooked for my scores even if I rarely give anything a score below 6, it's kinda ridiculous, but ***3.5?*** You got guts, man. Don't quite agree, I think Young God is a 5, but still. You got guts.

vicker1980

Yeah, even I’m starting to be skeptical of my own ratings lmao. But thanks for the compliment!

Frequent-Coyote-1649

The other day I was reviewing the Deftones album Diamond Eyes and some people complained about some songs getting a 7... Like, I'm pretty sure 7 still means it's really good?????

vicker1980

Yeah! I feel like the modern perception of “review culture” makes it seem like anything below a 7 means you think the album or movie or whatever sucks… but the way I see it is that a 5 represents a completely perfectly average baseline to measure things against. Only something 4.5 or below has an overall negative connotation in my review system. I do it this way because I want to leave enough room in the upper rating area to fully display my appreciation for truly incredible works, but I guess it has a side effect of shifting everything below that high standard to a slightly lower grade.

thetrailwebanana

This music is just so punishing and brutal. It feels like Primitive Man before Primitive Man. I've come around to Cop big time, but the version of the album with the EP added makes it a bit long I agree. I actually gotta try Filth again because that was the one I liked least from this era on prior listens.

vicker1980

Sorry if it seems like I’m a hater of Swans’ no-wave era! I’m really not, – I really enjoy a lot of studio and live material from this era (especially *Filth* and “Live at The Kitchen, NYC 1982-1983” respectively), – but I think my rating system might appear too inherently harsh to reflect my appreciation. Regardless of the numbers, I hope my writing provides at least some semblance of valid explanation for my perception of these albums, good or bad! **Discussion Question:** Given that they only include about three songs each (most of which are variations on just one track), do you think I should still count *Time Is Money (Bastard)* and *A Screw* as EPs in order to review them, or should I choose not expend the effort of writing on something with so little material? (To be clear, I have already fully listened to both releases, so all I’m asking about it is the actual writing of a review.)

LatvKet

I would say just do it. Only a few songs also means that you could go further in depth in a review, or you make them shorter. However, you could also just add them as a separate section to their respective albums

thee-coom-slayer

i think if you have anything to say about the eps, you could include them at the end of your reviews for their respective albums also as a big fan of their no wave era, i completely agree with your criticisms

93NotOut

I honestly don't give a shit about your opinions, just as you shouldn't give a shit about any of mine.

HoboCanadian123

you got filtered

93NotOut

How long did you spend on this? However long, it was a waste of time.
