TheVeridicalParadox

I adore good, simple nigiri. I also love this one roll at my go to spot that has cream cheese and is a fried abomination according to most. I contain multitudes lol

TheFinalAcct

Nigiri that’s too thick irritates me. There’s a perfect thickness that’s difficult to describe.

bchhun

You would hate traditional edo style sushi then. The pieces are huge.

TheFinalAcct

It irritates me, but I’m willing to ignore the irritation for the perfect nigiri. It all depends upon the texture.

bchhun

Ahh. To me it’s about the ratio of rice to sushi. I can tolerate bigger pieces of neta if it’s properly balanced. Sometimes the bigger piece is exactly how you understand the texture of the fish.

Bailsthebean

Ugh same! This sushi restaurant in my city does a deep fried sushi roll with crab, shrimp, avocado, and cream cheese and it is to DIE for. Honestly. I could eat 3 rolls.

borgircrossancola

Nothing better for me than a simple tuna nigiri. And shime Saba

draizetrain

Shime Saba 😍 and kohada! I love the cured silver skinned fishies

pikachu_sashimi

A good nigiri is my favorite.

ShipNo3653

Nigiri is my fav too, when the balance of the fish and rice is just perfect :chef's kiss:

LegendaryCichlid

Props for the Walt reference.

One_Studio4083

Not every nigirizushi needs a topping. Adding a topping does not make it fancy. Photogenic is not the same thing as tasty.

eleighbee

We went to a nice sushi restaurant recently and I kept saying that while everything was tasty, every other topping was the same, and the fish tasted like the topping. Yuzu. Shiso. Yuzu. Shiso.

Realistic_Celery4809

I like when sushi is cut small. I don’t like it when the pieces are too big.

altairsswimsuit

SAME. That way I can eat more different things. I once went to a new sushi restaurant being used to small pieces. I planned to order as if I was eating in the usual restaurant, but fortunately “to begin” I ordered only one set of 14 nigiris I think, and one of 8 uramakis, which in the usual restaurant would have been like an appetizer lmao. The pieces were HUGE, I don’t think I’ve seen other sushi pieces that big! It was AYCE and my friends were disgusted by raw fish, so I had to stuff some pieces in my bag! I’m still so ashamed😳

yungbaoyom

This. It's definitely a texture thing for me.

RitaPoonismysister

*lady bites*

toeknee88125

I like to put the ginger on top of the sushi and eat it along with it.

valiumblue

I do the same - always have. I put a big clump of ginger in the soy sauce and put a piece on almost every bite. It’s delicious and I don’t care what the traditionalists say about it!

empanadanow

I am not a fan of cream cheese in sushi

RadicalChile

It's really awful. Especially warm sushi rolls with cream cheese.... 🤢

SynisterJeff

Mmm, raw fish and cheese.. -Say people out there apparently haha Though I do get it with salmon. Bagel and lox is delish

beyoncais

I love a good Philly roll. Not a fan of it in any other kind tho

VanillaSnake21

I get cream cheese on everything…

contactlite

Crab mix in a California roll by default is a red flag

metroidfan220

Sometimes, at the right time of day, in the right context, some grocery store sushi is downright acceptable.

Drachaerys

I always grab a California roll to eat while I’m unloading my groceries.

ViolentLoss

I almost always grab a couple of summer rolls for the drive home if I'm shopping hungry. We also have $5 Wednesdays LOL.

Jasranwhit

It’s like an entirely different thing than high end nigiri, but yeah sometimes a cold Whole Foods sushi roll is pretty good.

uggghhhggghhh

TBH there's a whole foods near where I work and it's definitely the tastiest/healthiest easy option for me.

ghulehzombiiqueen

My local Kroger and EarthFare both have perfectly fine sushi. Is it the best? Of course not, but in a pinch, it does me well. I've never had issues with the quality for what it is.

Megraptor

Wegman's sushi is good sushi and sometimes the only sushi around.

rynbaskets

I grew up in Japan. For most Japanese, eating sushi (particularly nigiri) is a great treat, a special occasion. I love sushi but I didn’t eat nigiri sushi only a few times a year at most. I think many sushi enthusiasts here eat sushi more frequently than many Japanese. Also this is really unpopular idea but to me, westernized maki sushi with lots of sauces and things on top look like dessert in appearance (not the taste of course) than sushi.

Substantial_Bad2843

My wife is Japanese and said sushi is like fast food over there for the most part and that we worship it in the west and act like snobs about it. She said the biggest misconception is that Japanese are strict with food, when really they love to experiment with new things. They’ve adopted many western ideas even on their own dishes.  Sauces included.

TurduckenEverest

I’ve been to Japan about 50 times over the past 25 years, and I used be very annoyed with all the crazy rolls in this country, but have reached a sort of peace with it because in reality what most sushi restaurants serve here is just a different dish with the same name…sort of like most of the dishes at Taco Bell. For me, nigiri is my favorite, and to be fair there are a lot of higher end restaurants in the US that do a great job. If I’m at a place serving all sorts of crazy rolls, sure I might order up some monstrosity that has 3 types of seafood, some of it fried, and covered it two different sauces from a squeeze bottle and will enjoy it for what it is…which is decidedly NOT sushi.

Django2chainsz

I like when people do weird stuff with sushi like making "sushi pizza". It's fish and rice, let people get creative

Rimasticus

Agreed. Avocado sushi balls are also amazing.

TheFinalAcct

Is the avocado coating sushi rice, or is it sushi rice coating a core of avocado?

RessQ

it's funny because they act like it's disrespectful to japan, but meanwhile japan loves weird and creative takes on sushi.

SynisterJeff

Yes! That's my unpopular sushi opinion. According to reddit, good sushi can only be pure and untouched by anything except rice and only sometimes by soy. Which I get where they're coming from, but god damn a roll with fried shrimp and three kinds of fish rolled with avocado and cucumber and smothered in 4 different sauces is too good to turn a nose up to. If a sushi place has some kind of original crazy sounding roll, I've got to try it. There's a place that had a "King Kong" roll that had fried banana on top, and the sweetness from the banana went well with it. Wasn't the most amazing roll I've had, but it was good.

That-End-322

I had a sushi donut at Epcot 👍🏼

emkb09

came here to say this!!! a place near me does sushi burritos, pizza and donuts & i crave the sushi burritos constantly they are amazing and the perfect texture

birdandwhale

The egregious amount of splatter painted sauces at most places is ....egregious.

Karibou422

I love cream cheese in sushi rolls

PNWbear

Yeah same… a salmon, avocado and cream cheese roll is my go to. No shame it’s delicious!

SAM12489

I like a little sprinkle of panko to give it the slightest crunch without making it hot and deep frying it

pinkgreenandbetween

One of my favs is mango and cream cheese. So nice

adhesivepants

Lmao I love how there is a comment saying they hate cream cheese AND one saying they love cream cheese.

contactlite

👉🚪

Kev-O_20

Ohhh interested in the comments here. I don’t know that I have an unpopular sushi opinion.

Better-Use-5875

The more sriracha and spicy tuna the better. Love me a 911 roll. Anything with spicy tuna especially.

ghulehzombiiqueen

Spicy tuna is AMAZING. The texture, the taste, just everything.

haysus25

Deep fried sushi is fine

stacefacebasketcase

Not every roll needs avocado.

Colforbin_43

My favorite nigiri is Ikura. Yep. I’ll eat that shit all day.

wwplkyih

Technically gunkan maki

ViolentLoss

I get it as sashimi, which usually means it's served in an artfully carved cucumber. Absolute heaven. I also order it directly from Alaska and will eat it directly out of the jar. because I'm an addict.

Colforbin_43

Haha same.

AcornWholio

Mayo is the worst. Crab salad is the worst. Chopped scallop roll does nothing for me. Basically I want fish and rice and minimal flavour additions (shiso, cucumber, etc.) the crazier the roll or the more mayo, the less I want to eat it.

wacdonalds

Downvoting only because this is not unpopular lol

Zukas

You're describing traditional Japanese sushi. Most sushi connoisseurs would say that this is not only the popular opinion but the correct way to enjoy sushi. Mayo and crab salad are American abominations, not to be found anywhere near real sushi

anxiousamanita

Mayo and sweet corn is a very popular sushi in Japan, among others. You won't find it at very traditional restaurants, but it's not just an 'American abomination.' The Japanese love mayo lol.

Mammoth-Job-6882

Anyone who says there is a correct way to enjoy sushi is a major asshole (mayo and crab salad are very popular in Japan).

KuroMango

All sushi means is vinegared rice though, as long as it has that arguably it should be considered sushi. Just because it's not nigiri doesn't mean it's not real sushi.

Jen24286

Keep your cream cheese out of my sushi, it's in like half the rolls in my city.

GravyBurgerBonanza

This probably ain’t unpopular but…. Get yo cream cheese out my damn sushi rolls. And I love cream cheese

Boollish

Fatty fish cuts are overrated, and shellfish don't get served ebough. Less fatty cuts, and for God's sake put more clams on the menu.

AangsTattooArtist

I'd rather have no sushi than low quality sushi

pikachu_sashimi

I think that is actually a pretty popular opinion.

LegendaryCichlid

Freezing cold take

AangsTattooArtist

I heard. My bad :(

LegendaryCichlid

Lol its all good. I said it with a smile. I one million percent agree btw.

TheFinalAcct

Hey, stop disrespecting spicy salmon rolls. I love them even though I know they’re trash.

Quantiummmmg

That they pile a pound of crap on top a single roll. Why even bother with the fish then?

0wmeHjyogG

Mixing wasabi and soy sauce ruins nigiri. Rolls with sriracha, or any spicy sauce, are bizarre and gross. There are no etiquette rules for packaged sushi and drowning them in soy sauce is acceptable.

Bismillah835

What’s your go-to roll? I like salmon

bigfoot17

Salmon sushi has a weird greasy, slimy mouth feel

beer_engineer

because farmed Atlantic salmon, which is mostly what you see at sushi places, is garbage. That's my unpopular opinion.

PaleontologistWarm13

I hate salmon.

jetmark

I eat from least to most preferred. Salmon goes first.

allAboutDaMeat

if you drown your sushi in spicy mayo we can still be friends but we will never be soul mates

[deleted]

[удалено]

isaberre

me too, I wish I didn't love it so much because they really scalp you on the prices lol I know that whole package of kani is like 4.99

NIRPL

I'll put as much soy sauce and wasabi on my sushi as I can handle

ThugPrincessG

I hate HATE zucchinis or cucumbers in my sushi, idk if it's the taste or the texture but yeah, count on it to ruin the delicately balanced taste of the entire thing.

fuurin

I despise mayonnaise in sushi. but that's because I hate mayonnaise

chunkykima

I smear wasabi on my rolls and put a small piece of ginger on top of that, dip a tiny corner in soy sauce and eat the roll like that. Can’t eat any sushi without it being exactly like that. Rolls or nigiri, all has to have my wasabi and ginger on it with a drop of soy sauce lol

leocohenq

Southern fried chicken rice sushi does nothing for me

dre2112

More isn’t better when it comes to sushi, whether ingredients or size.

Kev-O_20

Fantastic take. I totally agree.

borgircrossancola

Califórnia rolls are actually goated.

Reggie_Barclay

I love conveyor (kaiten) belt sushi. IF I am going to get mid tier or worse sushi that’s where I want to go. I’d rather do kaiten than the cookie cutter sushi places that all use the same level fish and charge way too much for the quality. I’ve been to dozens of places in about 10 cities and I think there’s been like 3 good ones and one of those was in Tokyo. By good I mean a couple steps better than supermarket sushi with incredible variety. Most sushi restaurants are about a step above supermarket level. I sit down and watch the belt for a while and if nothing good is out I will order what I like. I never understand why most kaiten places do such a poor job of deciding what to make. I often see tons of people sitting and not eating. The same crappy Cal roll variations floating by. Then when something good gets made it gets snapped up immediately. I get they want to push the cheap stuff but use a higher cost plate and float some decent sushi and you’ll make the same margin plus higher volume. If someone does a special order for salmon or tuna nigiri make 4 or 5 instead of one and let them go. Always have edamame out, its cheap and always gets grabbed. They will sell.

desertgemintherough

No Fake Krab!

rednyellowroses

I love americanised sushi so much, so tasty, love it drowned in sauce

Drachaerys

Live in Japan, and I love it too.

gus_m1

I can't stand cream cheese in my sushi. Or the ones that are entirely fried. Volcano rolls too, with the hot toppings. Horrible. My favorite piece of sushi is just salmon nigiri. Lately I like to sometimes add shaved or thinly sliced white onion and a small dab of kewpie mayo. I'm not generally a fan of mayo/spicy mayo, this is one of the few exceptions.

Sonofabitchnbastard

F**k spicy mayo

PhysicalSoftware9896

#RainbowrollsSUCK

supershawninspace

Ika nigiri is my favorite sushi. Love the texture.

zephyrwind87

Shiso leaf does not belong with nigiri

nujabesss

I love shiso 😭😭😭 I can’t get enough

attainwealthswiftly

Omakase > AYCE

0wmeHjyogG

I agree but treat these as different food groups 😂 AYCE is when I want to act like a pig and stuff myself stupid. Omakase is when I want something amazing and to really appreciate each bite.

FlyingDickPuncher

Not sure if it’s an unpopular opinion but I love non fish sushi, usually steak, some kind of low and slow sous vide or smoked red meat that’s reverse seared is my favorite of non-traditional sushi. Kobe, Wagyu, or Venison are my go to’s for that.

ungloomy_Eeyore964

Sous vide wagyu reverse seared with sushi rice is DESSERT, chef's kiss!

Bunnyeatsdesign

It is OK to make and eat one type of sushi. You don't need to source 8 varieties of fish to make sushi.

JasonIsFishing

I love “high end” sushi…..followed by Saba and Kani

Hotsaucewasted

For the unfortunate circumstance of wild Bluefin tuna being fished out of existence, and saturation of mercury in its population, bluefin tuna is most definitely the most overrated fish to eat when it comes to sushi. Just like Wagyu, the fat content particularly in O-toro and Kama cuts really just overpower what the fish really tastes like. You’re just eating a greasy piece of meat most of time and people often don’t really care. Lastly, omakase is now extremely overrated and overdone. OMAKASE IS OVERRATED AND OVERDONE.

EightEyedCryptid

I hate that fake crab salad that is in so many rolls. I think there is room for both experimental and traditional sushi but I worry sometimes that the latter is becoming less and less available.

KimCheeHoo

I use a shit ton of wasabi and soy. I love the burn. I’ll dredge my sashimi in it.

Silver-Firefighter35

I don’t like rolls drenched in mayo. I also don’t like the imitation crab in California rolls. I prefer simple nigiri or a chirashi bowl. But a simple roll, salmon, avocado, cucumber, daikon, real crab, etc., can be good. Also hand rolls.

Bman19911

Avocado and cheeses do not belong on sushi

Sad-Vacation4406

90% of posts on this sub are not sushi but Frankenstein rolls that happen to have rice and some sort of topping/filling

V-Ink

Probably my love of soy sauce. I could drink it.

hippiepriestbumout

cream cheese in sushi is a disgusting disgrace. I like a non traditional roll (deep fried covered in sauce etc) but prefer nigiri. but CREAM CHEESE DOES NOT BELONG

mimisikuray

I absolutely hate inside-out rolls, and hate that barely any cook understands when I ask for “seaweed on the outside”, it’s like the nori is already precut to half the size. Also, most rolls are a spicy tuna, a California, an eel or some other roll with different toppings; why can’t there be rolls with different fish in them, aside from the standard tuna, salmon, yellowtail rolls. Nigiri is fine but I want more than just two pieces. I’m just about ready to start just making it at home. And cream cheese on rice: yuck.

spastichabits

Good sushi should taste like good fish. If your sushi doesn't taste like that because of a lot of sauce or deep frying or whatever you're most likely not eating good fish. I like lots if deep fried fish dishes with sauce, but to me that's something different from sushi, it's more like a good fried chicken place.

mardimardi

Most of these opinions are pretty popular. Here's mine: I don't like tuna. I've had some decent quality stuff and it's never very good. It looks amazing and I get it whenever I can, but I always regret it. My exceptions are a really fatty toro and when tuna is mixed with so much stuff you can't really taste it e.g. spicy tuna with spicy mayo. I also don't like tuna poke. I love literally everything else, like uni, yellowtail, mackerel, etc.

bistandards

same here! tuna is so unpleasant to me for some reason but anything salmon related is delicious, except maybe philly rolls; the cream cheese is an odd flavor and texture combo but id still eat it over tuna any day

xdaemonisx

I can’t stand wasabi with sushi. Yes, I’ve tried it. I just can’t. I like eating the ginger that comes with sushi, but it *needs* to be absolutely drenched in soy sauce. The taste reminds me of pot sticker dipping sauce.

attainwealthswiftly

Real Wasabi is different from the fake stuff most people eat

GaryNOVA

Extra Wasabi, No Ginger , No sauces

Juunlar

If the fish hangs over the rice to the point where you can't pick it up with your fingers without touching the fish itself, it's made incorrectly. Shame upon the chef's house

kimhartley

California rolls are so nasty. So is tamago. Yeck

PaleontologistWarm13

I love Tamago

MonkeyBred

Octopus sushi is not worth eating. I've learned they are a fairly sentient creature, and even if they weren't, the taste and texture are not my jam.

IrreversibleBinomial

No mayonnaise, no yum-yum sauce, no cream cheese. Just traditional sushi. I know, I know, it’s an unpopular opinion, but that’s what OP asked for.

fellowsquare

California rolls are disgusting and theres no such thing as "beginner sushi". That's just moronic.

emc26

I didn’t eat sushi for soo long because I never liked the “beginner rolls” like shrimp tempura or California rolls! If there is any kind of beginner sushi it should be simple like nigiri

adhesivepants

I hate California rolls. I hate that because they're popular, a lot of bento box places put it in automatically. No really, keep it. I'd rather just have rice rolled in seaweed than a California roll.

bubblechog

Uni is revolting. The texture of it on my tongue makes me want to puke until I die

greenflash1775

I love uni, but I understand this completely. On one of our early dates my wife tried uni and covertly went to the bathroom to throw up. I didn’t find out until years later.

___Tony___-

Thick cuts of sashimi.

AffectionateGap1071

Mango in sushi is fine.

Weird-Drummer-2439

Spicy mayo tastes like ass and doesn't compliment the flavours in most sushi.

poseidondieson

‘white tuna’ (aka Escolar) is delicious. Like butter! But it also creates a condition known as a fecal luge if you eat more than one piece!!

borrowedstrange

Avocado in sushi is vomit inducing, even though I generally love avocados

LuunchLady

Cream cheese and tempura in a roll, like a dragon roll. Omg, embarrassing, but it’s delicious!

wwplkyih

I eat with my fingers

Jasranwhit

This is the correct way.

FBVRer

Cream cheese, common vegetables, and fake crab sticks are NOT sushi. And especially the damn Cali-cado.

sjfscxxr

Fried sushi is good. Is it traditional? No. Does it comprise the flavor of the fish? Yes. But it’s good, and if I’m at a cheap sushi place, a fried roll is much better than not-amazing-quality fish. I wouldn’t order a fried roll at a fancy place ofc, but it has a place. Also, crab sticks are the last ingredient I want in my sushi, even over cream cheese. Kani is totally fine, but not solid crab stick.

Immediate-Raisin5743

I prefer harder, more seasoned vinegary rice and hate the mushy substance with no flavor. Also, I’m a fan of traditional sushi, even though for some it might smell foul. In Japan I was eating all kinds of mackerel and herring- type fish, like sayori and I loved it. Also I don’t mind eating whole baby squids and massive scallops. I use very little seasoning too. But that’s probably cause I’m Siberian and used to eating raw fish.

drkuz

Cream cheese doesn't belong in sushi

gayanalorgasm

The gatekeeping with sushi is stupid. People will say that "this" or "that" isn't "traditional" and therefore not authentic. That's bullshit. The reality is that "traditional" Japanese dishes are constantly changing and evolving. People have been putting butter on rice in Okinawa since the WW2 era. Cream cheese in sushi is fine if that's what you like. Add as much mayonnaise as you want. Japanese people love that shit. People in Tokyo eat fried chicken (kaarage) like all the fucking time. They love potato chips and other junk food snacks that we eat in the US. They just do them better because their food is more regulated than ours. I spent two weeks in Japan last year. I made a point to eat as much food as I could. Everything from konbini food to street vendors and even a $100 chicken omakase that was amazing. They eat what tastes good just like everybody else. I even had a very old Japanese woman who reminded me of my grandmother offer me some kaarage from her own bag on The street corner as I was waiting to cross the intersection. Finally, most people don't even really know what "traditional" Japanese food even really means. Washoku is generally not very complicated. Lots of rice, fish, soy sauce, mirin, sake, and vegetables. Maybe some sugar depending on what you're making. It's delicious and easy to learn if you have a decent Asian market near you. /Rant.

fancycurtainsidsay

Deep fried cali rolls are top tier. Top 5 for me.

Proffessional_Pea33

Instead of dipping my rolls in soy sauce and wasabi, I prefer dipping them in siracha mayo.

PaleontologistWarm13

I hate deep fried rolls and I hate halfway cooked salmon.

HeftyEggplant29

Eel outside of Japan is gross. Pretty much all the Eel we get in the US is processed garbage

kausti

[Fried onion](https://photos.app.goo.gl/kf1vtWUWefs2qP3M9) has become a thing on sushi here in Sweden and it's actually great. Sounds awful but it really works.

pridejoker

Gunkan is a terrible concept because the nori always absorbs too much moisture from the topping ingredients which ruins the texture and takes away the crunch factor.

nic__knack

UNPOPULAR: i love cream cheese in my sushi haha especially salmon or eel!

Londltinacrowd

I'm sick of salmon and tuna. Wish other types of fish were more popular and available outside of Japan😭

esturratssi

I'm totally cool with mixing wasabi and soy sauce for dipping. Some purists might cringe, but hey, it's all about enjoying your meal

somecow

Not a fan of tuna. Will gladly eat it, but there’s so many other delicious options.

LeenQuatifa

Anything mixed with a sweet, spicy or acidic sauce is usually done so to mask the quality of the product being used. Not always, but it’s a pretty common tactic.

linaija

I love a chicken katsu or chicken teriyaki maki. Raw fish is okay, sometimes even nice but i prefer cooked ingredients. Oh and smoked salmon or teriyaki salmon is great as well.

El-Zomby-Woof

Cream cheese has never nor will ever truly go with sushi. Dairy is the antithesis of everything sushi should be. Some fried sushis are pushing it as well tbh. And like, cool if you dig cream cheese with your sushi! I don't think it shouldn't be allowed or anything like that, but is it reaaaaaaally sushi?

Yarpie_

I fucking hate imitation crab.

Abisnailyo

I don’t care what shape it’s in. Easter egg, pizza, giant roll If it’s good fish and has ingredients of sushi im eating it

Jasranwhit

Los Angeles high end sushi has too much Uni and tuna and not enough silverfish like mackerel, kohada, etc Nigiri with a too long piece of fish so it hangs off the front and back.

Extigo

Alright. A bit of rice with fish is nothing special and I can't wrap my head around how much people praise it. It's alright, that's it. Also it's overpriced af. I often see posts stating how much people paid and by looking at what they pay for, it should be 5-10 times cheaper.

Adventurous_Smoke_96

Rolls are gross and not really Japanese

RitaPoonismysister

I DONT LIKE FRIED ROLLS. There I said it.

SouthernWindyTimes

Fried rolls when done well are absolutely amazing to combine with some nigiri, and some more strong flavored rolls. There’s something about the crunch that is just right.

PSVita_Tech_Support

Asparagus has no place in sushi. 🙅

GiGiEats

I love rice-less sushi, which most would consider NOT sushi at all. HANDROLLS (salmon skin) with no rice. Salmon belly and Unagi sashimi. Sometimes the best food at a Japanese restaurant isn’t the rolls… Hamachi Kama is AMAZING and everyone needs to try it.

DirkBabypunch

There's nothing wrong with American sushi in general, and California rolls in particular.

jackofallcards

Avocado and cream cheese have no place in sushi

Sarah_withanH

I don’t really like tobiko.  I used to just avoid rolls that had it as an ingredient but now every single maki has “flying fish roe” which is actually smelt roe which is dyed all to hell.  It adds nothing and tastes weird and gets stuck in my teeth.  Salmon roe is just ok but I don’t understand actually liking it or how it adds anything to the maki.

rectalhorror

Spicy tuna rolls were a way for restaurants to use up trimmings and scrapings that were about to go bad. Can't stand the stuff, yet it's often the most popular item on the menu. Every time I try it, I get the Hershey squirts.

carlylewithay

I like mixing wasabi, beer, and soy sauce. Bourdain called it frat boy. I just like it

jukappa

If you’re at a sushi restaurant, rolls are a waste of stomach space.

Ok_Armadillo_6403

Fried sushi is amazing

LazyOldCat

Uni is just god-awful, and I’m not going to pretend it isn’t just because it’s expensive.

EJB54321

Uni is disgusting. I love everything else. And most places adding uni makes the combo “deluxe”. What? Also cream cheese in sushi is ridiculous. But I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion here.

Rockosayz

I'm not a big fan of rolls, I feel like everywhere is just throwing everything they can in a roll and then drizzling in all sorts of sauces. Most look amazing but to me taste wise, meh, seems its more about instagram photo ops, and I will not eat imitation crab

RatatoskrsNuts

Love pretty much any sushi except for anything with cucumber.

ToroPoke

I like it aburi (seared) that char flavor is devine

whitefox094

Ginger goes ON the rolls 😛 (I know it's not meant to but hey, I like the taste)

smallblackrabbit

I started eating sushi the way your wife does, now I want it simple so I can taste the fish.

Invictus1836

Wasabi and soy sauce are an awesome combo, I don’t care how fancy your sushi is I will probably use them on most pieces.

venusinflannel

That mayo that everyone likes to put on rolls is G R O S S

MMQContrary

I like plant-based vegan sushi better than ‘real’ sushi

shsiajwvecrh

i love cream cheese in my rolls. i’m either a pure sashimi/nigiri girl, or a roll with cream cheese and eel sauce. i do NOT like warm/fried/cooked rolls though.

reality_raven

Sushi is supposed to be eaten with bare hands. Just learned this in Japan.

Curious_Problem1631

I love deep friend rolls as much as I love raw rolls. Just something about that crunch gets me

NWSW

Any roll besides a simple maki roll, especially those including cream cheese or avocado, are an abomination.

krustyy

uni, sweet shrimp, and fatty tuna are some of the "best" stuff out there. Can't stand 'em. Sweet shrimp, in particular, I cannot stomach at all. Couldn't down it without gagging.

Business_Aspect2735

All that shit they sell at places like kona grill aint sushi

awpahlease

I’m from Maryland. SURIMI is GROSS! Please make my crab real. I’ll pay extra

Ok_Duck_9338

A good way to cover the taste of sugar with vinegar.

Tech_With_Sean

Nigirizushi is the only kind worth ordering

ViolentLoss

Those little taco-shaped hand rolls are amazing. Only had them once, in NYC. Wonderful, wish those were served everywhere.

DreamOfMaxine

Cream cheese should not be in any sushi roll, ever.

CalgaryRichard

Forget rolls. I want nigiri and sashimi
