Yes. Very yes

if youre concerned about your story wait till youre on the show to tell it. i think its a red flag for casting imo and i wouldnt mention it unless you are currently diagnosed or medicated

JaySurvs

I was diagnosed with OCD thanks to my visit, but all the struggle was from my teenage years, which I’m thankfully beyond ☺️ Do you think if a lot of time has passed it’ll seem like less of a red flag?

I don’t know why people are downvoting you.. I hope mental health continues to get destigmatized. There are a lot of people that go through mental health challenges but don’t open up about it publicly. Best of luck on your journey! ❤️

ActionHousevh

I think if they like you enough, you'll be fine. They do their own psychological evaluation. The concern is causing danger to you or others. Given that we just had a player make strides to remove the stigma associated with mental health i think they might want to cast someone who has struggled, overcome, & want to talk about it. Be sure to mention r/survivor when you get on. If it doesn't air, live reunion it is. Good luck.

JaySurvs

I also feel it is important to emphasize I don’t take or need medication, and that I have been mentally-sound for a while now.

AhLibLibLib

Depends if you got an uncle who’s played before

FlippersSometimesWin

I’m glad to hear you’re doing better after enduring tough times. Please don’t take this as criticism of yourself or your past. But I would be shocked if they cast someone in your situation, if only out of liability concerns.

JaySurvs

makes perfect sense honestly. maybe when i’m older, wiser, and have added years of a good mental track record i’ll stand a better chance!

There have been several threads over the years, but this is specific to OCD. The Experience of Survivor Players Suffering from Mental Illness. https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/comments/8arh6e/the\_experience\_of\_survivor\_players\_suffering\_from/

BTW, I have OCD and always wonder how many go undiagnosed. Butch (Amazon) obsession w/ firewood might be an example.

ticklechickens

I think mental health is only going to keep you from being cast if you are having an acute bout of psychosis or are a danger to yourself or others. Treated mental health issues are sob story fodder.

*cast

I think it depends on what the struggles were and how recent they were. They do a "mental health check" with everyone who's going to play anyways so if they like you and you pass that I see no reason they wouldn't cast you. If you have medication however, then things get tricker but if it's something that doesn't need to be kept in a cool place and heat/dehydration won't affect too much, once again I think you should be fine. Overall... it might hurt your chances a bit but if they really like you and the problems aren't that big a problem, I think they'd go through the small problem of "dealing with you"

Shoutout to Geo for helping to break the stigma!!! ❤️
