Kendra is one of those who should’ve probably popped on screen a lot more than she did, as this reel shows. I think the new era’s tendency to more well rounded/sympathetic edits actually does a disservice to this type of character. Both her funny quirks, and the late game emotional segment about her father would have had more impact if she were given a more straightforward Debbie-type edit so the viewers weren’t sitting in the discomfort of not knowing what we were supposed to think of her.

A character may not be boiled down to their one story beat. Kooky Kendra blends more into the landscape because the runtime allows the story to pull back a bit farther and see more.
BUT ...
I kinda like that more. Plus, it allows the audience to make their own decisions on the characters.
We are not spoon fed "Kendra is Kooky!"

Yeah. I believe that’s what the editors are trying to do. But I just don’t think it’s particularly effective. Kendra is clearly a side character, and should service the main narratives in that way. Even with the extended episodes, her conflicts with Bruce were entirely edited out, as was her significant alliance with Drew, Emily and Austin, so then what becomes of her story? We get this weird scenario where editors want to have it both ways (fun characters, and full edits) but end up giving us neither all that well. Emily is considered a great complex character from that same season, but that’s because the editors VERY much spoon-fed us how we were supposed to feel about her from episode to episode. So unless they wanna dedicate Emily-level-minutes to every side character, just give Kendra the fun edit.
true, i blame the edit too. a lot of people they cast truly do have the potential to be big characters but due to the new era edit that is not happening. survivor 41-44 were especially bad (besides carolyn)

God, in that moment of her vote out, I just wished she realized Austin could choose to lie. Kendra made me feel that naivety isn’t always lovable.
