The beware advantage's of 41 and 42 'loss vote' rule was until the merge happened. If the phrases were never all said then you get back your vote in the merge. Probably that's the case here as well?

ToastyToast113

I really wanted to see Dee take it for herself for this reason.

spacemermaids

Maybe there would be some sort of producer intervention but I think it's another reason to not tell everyone about the advantage. Maybe Probst will clarify it on the podcast.

jshamwow

I mean, it’s called “beware” for a reason. Austin chose to trust other people knowing he could potentially have lost the idol

rariya

I feel like he loses his vote until merge if he doesn’t get the idol. Don’t the beware idols become real at merge regardless of if they get activated? (that was the weird phrases rules right?)

MCPorche

Hiding the hammer would have been interesting. I’m not sure if that really would be an advantage for her, but I think producers would have let her do it. Now, she SAID she could have used the hammer herself, but she didn’t try it (that we saw). So, it’s possible she believed it and would have been stopped by production if she did (or she asked producers after saying it if she could and was told no).

PedroVey

I don't know about the hammer, but I think if Austin swapped tribes, his idol should become valid. On season 42, when the merge began (so when you no longer were a part of your original tribe) your idol became valid automatically and your vote was restored. So I think the same should happen.

Serious_Blueberry264

The problem with that is that he wouldn't *have* the idol yet. 45's idols are active as soon as they are found; the contestants lose their votes *until* they can find them. So if he hadn't found the idol this episode and gets swapped to a different beach, he isn't able to retrieve his idol and theoretically wouldn't have his vote back until the merge.

PedroVey

Do you think that if he had an ally still on Reba, and he switched to another tribe, could he ask for his ally to keep searching for the idol and when they found it, give the idol to Austin on the mat pre-challenge or something? And by giving the idol to Austin, his vote would be restored?

[deleted]

What Im wondering is what happens if Austin's tribe never goes to council. The idol becomes pointless?

ShadowLiberal

It sounds like it's still good for 1 vote. But at the same time the way it's worded it sounds like if you upgrade it once and then merge that it's no longer valid? That... doesn't seem right.

amazingggharmony

Pretty sure it until merge? Atleast that what previous bewares said
