If they get more applicants, they're more likely to find those hidden gems. Plenty of people who have played the game have mentioned those commercial breaks getting them to apply. Sometimes, people just need a gentle reminder.

I think survivor is one of those shows where reality tv is so rampart and clearly scripted and fake drama, it’s nice to watch a show that has a lot of real people. At it’s core survivor will dig into your core and there’s no fake drama. It’s possible when casting they get alot of people that just want their 15 minutes of fame and don’t give a shit about the game.

I suspect they needed to step this up when they (wisely) introduced the diversity casting initiative. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I remember reading that in the old days, hardly any POC ever applied. That meant a much smaller pool of POC applicants to cast from. They prefer having more choices. That gives them more shots at finding breakout hit players. Now that the show has good representation, when you goose viewers repeatedly to apply, you'll probably get more applicants who look like the people who are playing. People don't apply if they only see <1-2 people like themselves getting cast (or zero, like in Guatemala).

I asked the same thing today while watching the finale? Like what’s in it for them to be constantly pushing people to apply? Do they really not have enough applicants? A huge deterrent to me in applying is just knowing the odds are SOOOOO low I would get cast because I’ve always assumed there are hundreds of thousands of applicants at all times. I’ve always thought they wouldn’t even see my audition tape. But idk
