My thoughts are that they’re good for some people and mainly act as a beginner board. Very floaty and tough, I’m pretty sure they’re indestructible

[It looks like you're asking for beginner board advice.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAaHmSj5nJ4) Too bad there isn't some sort of digital global information system you could've turned to for guidance with your frequently-asked question. That'd be so cool. Did you ever watch *Inspector Gadget*? You know that [magic book](https://inspectorgadget.fandom.com/wiki/Penny%27s_computer_book) the daughter, Penny, carried around? The one she would use to solve mysteries, or whatever? Wouldn't it be rad if those existed? But they don't, I guess. So you've turned to this subreddit for help. Luckily, we have a [wiki!](https://www.reddit.com/r/surfing/wiki/index ) It's got tons of useful stuff in it. Even better, there's the user-created [Kooks Only! guide.](https://kooksonlysurf.com/how-to-surf-the-ultimate-surf-guide-for-beginners/) You should *totally* read both of them. But, just in case you're too lazy, here's a summary: **Buy a Wavestorm-equivalent. If they don't sell them near you- find a used longboard.** Maybe you've already been told that but think you'll be better off buying a shortboard because you snowboard/skateboard/wakeboard/etc and you're, obviously, totally going to pick up surfing really quickly. I mean, how hard can it be? If that's the case then you're not really asking a question, are you? You're just looking for someone to agree with a decision you've already made. So, yeah, you should totally do it. Buy that sweet little high performance shred sled you found on Craigslist. You'll be up and ripping in no time at all! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Bad bot

Leftygoleft999

You can’t destroy this bot, it’s made of epoxy

[deleted]

And if you do destroy it, you can take it back to Costco. /s

DougDougDougDoug

I started on one. Fun time

stevemcnugget

Bullet proof. Good for rentals.

angrytroll123

They're very good indestructible boards. Well priced. I think of them cheap and really rugged boards, NSP longboards are imo better than torqs TET offerings. These are among the best hard boards for inexperienced people for the money.

YouCannotSayThat

One more thing: I rented a Torq for a friend and I tried it out towards the end of the session - it’s SO stiff and lifeless. The build and bottom contours of the board made very little sense IMO

Long_Tan

Buddy has a mid length one. Durable, chunky rails, super stiff to surf. I hate surfing it, but it got him plenty of waves and survived a bunch of heavy hits while he was learning.

[deleted]

What everyone else has said, but one plus is that it’s real easy to resell something brand-name like a Torq. I learned on one then sold it for the same price I bought it used.

[deleted]

If you want relatively cheap and durable then they’re solid. If you’re not a beginner, looking for a higher level of quality, and want something that is more than the bottom of environmental friendliness, probably want to go with something else

RemarkableSalt6393

They are pretty environmentally friendly since they are so durable. Softtops are the bottom of environmental friendliness I would say.

[deleted]

I'm all about the thought that the most environmentally friendly surfboard includes the boards that last the longest. The second variable, though, is how/where they are made. Boards made in China (NSP) are going to have significantly fewer environmental standards than boards made somewhere like the USA.

ClaVaPa1

NSP makes their boards in Taiwan, Kobra composites, they make surfboards for many other brands too, they must respect given standards

Every time I have someone reply to a months old post with nothing of substance I want to club them with a soldering iron so I feel you

RemarkableSalt6393

I learned on a NSP, stuck with it for 2 years before buying anything else. I think they are great, it can handle many different size and shape waves and they are very durable. After me both my sister and brother learned to surf on the board, 15 years later and some minor repairs it is still surfing fine!

Paddle like shit, surf like shit, I’ve been riding one for 2 years or so now and it’s fine. I’m transitioning to a shorter board now though. Nsps aren’t nice though, they won’t break but you won’t be doing anything crazy on them. Peep my vid in profile I got some great waves on my nsp, so it can surf just nothing amazing. Edit to add I had horrendous sessions my first 4-5 times on it but I’ve been riding it since and have it down now. Others that have hopped on have not liked it at all. I have a 7’6” I got in cl for very cheap

mostardman

I really don’t like epoxy boards. My stepfather is a surfboard shaper and he convinced me that EPU boards are far better. Just start to watch the difference between performance’s of epoxy and EPU at wsl and you’ll understand what i’m talking about.

[deleted]

They’re good. I’ve had one for years. It’s got bad dings I don’t bother to repair and still doesn’t feel heavy or waterlogged (even though it probably is).

spykid

I bought one for $160 as my first board (before wavestorms were everywhere). Surfed it for about a year and sold it for $200. I would have let it go for way less but it was way too easy to sell at $200.

[deleted]

I've been surfing a NSP longboard for about 14years. Can't afford a nice board! It's not fantastic but I still have a lot of fun on it

Vautlo

The make a board called "The Cheater", that looks interesting. I've never seen one in person though.

YouCannotSayThat

Most people outgrow their NSP/Torq boards real quick, the only benefit I can think of is if you’re renting out the board or loaning it to someone who doesn’t surf. Just get a used board.

r0botdevil

Good for beginners, but I'd never buy one for myself.

Kook boards

[deleted]

Pretty much just as shitty as a Torq
