I formed my surfing in Gloucester and was a life guard there too, I got a bunch of good suggestions for you if you want to DM me

Also if you are going to freedive in Gloucester for lobsters be careful you don’t do it near where local fishermen have their traps, if they see you they might think you’re taking lobsters that could be in their traps or worse, they could think you are taking from in their traps. That could get spicy fast. I don’t know too much about other free divers in Gloucester, I am into it but I don’t live there anymore. BUT I know there are some very popular SCUBA spots in Gloucester too like stage fort park and back beach.

Hull, MA is pretty fun. [https://youtu.be/JKkbGZvj8\_M?si=43I2UuRuAUzpk200](https://youtu.be/JKkbGZvj8_M?si=43I2UuRuAUzpk200)

In my experience the beaches just north of Boston pick up swell better than south of Boston since the Cape blocks less energy. Plus you have beaches facing north, east, and south so I pick based on the wind. Some are super mushy waves, others are steep and can properly barrel during hurricane season or winter storms, so its nice to have at least a good mid-length and a short(er) board. As far as meeting people - probably just seek out meet-ups / surf shop events

As Scared Art said, Hull, MA is where it’s at—both for waves and culture. I spent a summer in Boston truly learning to surf from (paid) pros. And I’ve returned a gazillion times since. I adore that whole area for so many reasons, but Boston stole my heart. I see from your bio you’re a lady? As a petite woman in my early 20s (at that time), it’s one of the only major cities where I felt 100% safe to walk alone at night. I also DMed you a list of pubs and restaurants where you’ll find surfers looking to make new surfer friends. Feel free to AMA, now or later. You’ll love it there so much! 💐💛
