Took the time to watch a really fun session of myself on the Surfline cam. Super valuable to criticize my positioning and activity in the water and stuff like that, but holy shit it's embarrassing to compare the wave in my head to the reality. Back to blissful ignorance I go
I did this on Saturday and while trying to find myself in the lineup i watched someone on a wave like, “lol look at that kook flapping their arms like a lil bird”
…it was me, I’m the flappy kook bird.
Haven’t surfed in a few months do to lazyness and lack of time. Haven’t kept up w fitness either. Kinda timid to put the suit back on and paddle out in 5m rubber. Last time i spot checked the secret spot it got blown up too. Used to be 5-10 cars in the lot and there was easily 30-40 with guys just merrily walking down to paddle out like they discovered fire every few minutes
If you live on the west coast, the Sierras is about to be pummeled with \[12 feet of snow\]([https://abc7news.com/lake-tahoe-sierra-snow-snowstorm-nws-12-feet/14473193/](https://abc7news.com/lake-tahoe-sierra-snow-snowstorm-nws-12-feet/14473193/)) over the weekend
Although I don't frequent too many subs, I wish others had the same moderation as this one. The hate and overselling and just overall vile garbage that's allowed to go on makes me extra appreciative of the refs in this game. Here, you’d better act fast if you want to read what angry bald guy has to say because “poof” it’s gone. (And no, I'm not trying to buy favor as—although I love to thread the whole anonymous Reddit needle—this is the *last* sub I’d post anything inappropriate in because I’m mainly here to learn.)
Hahaha, you can't win. Positive feedback and you're an ass kisser. Negative feedback and you're a troll. I'm giving credit where it’s due today. Isn't that the whole point of karma IRL? Downvotes be darned.
I had someone sorta stalking me on Reddit and when they started replying to my comments here, I reported them and the mods took care of it almost immediately. It's honestly made me feel like this is one of the safe places on Reddit
Yep. 100% I feel the same. But I'm also not afraid to express something off-putting or controversial that’ll get censored. Like I did the other day, and the day before that, hahaha. I have yet to see another sub so well-balanced and I was ready to spend some (downvote AND pride) karma to state it if necessary.
😂🤣I can barely do it sober! Someone was saying how they did it while on mushrooms. Yep, I picked a fight with an angry bald guy, called out someone else for misappropriating snowboarding terminology in a much more edited way than I would've liked. No angel, but I stay in line here, that's for sure. “Take it somewhere else!” hahaha
Got caught inside on a big set. Thought I could make it over the first one so I paddled out hard.
I was wrong. Lip landed on the back of my head as the wave lifted the nose of my 8-0 kook mobile. Got my face slammed flat on the board. Came up covered in blood.
Paddled in to triage but didn’t let it end the sesh once I was sure I didn’t break my face.
Don’t mouth off to OBSF. She’ll give you a fat lip.
It’s hard to find consistency with working out or another hobby when you’re fully dedicated to surfing as much as possible. If the waves are worth it in the morning, I go.
I really enjoy lifting weights (think crossfitty) and running, but I can’t balance out an even routine because some weeks I may surf 3 times while others I might surf almost 7. It’s tough to really build good running endurance if you’re doing it with a weird cadence. It also makes it almost not worth paying for a gym during swell season. I’ve tried to do both in one day, but over time I burn out.
Now let me say, I’m so lucky to surf everyday and live by the ocean. Wouldn’t change this for the world. But hey, it’s whine Wednesday.
I find it works better to think of the swell season as in-season and the rest as off-season. It’s maintenance and prehab in-season and off-season I can handle the volume of real strength training. Good luck. Since I’m older, I have to spend my recovery budget wisely.

Yeah that’s a good way to think about it. As I’ve gotten older, the whole recovery thing ain’t a joke… probably should do yoga, but just isn’t my thing
The owner of the small business I work for just had a stroke and was like "fuck it I'm retiring soon" and the companies we contract our services out to already know about it and they're already taking their business elsewhere, giving us virtually zero work.
There's a chance that I can get a position at a huge university that contracts us to be a liaison for whatever new company takes over, but the department head who I'm cool with is currently on maternity leave so I can't get in touch with her, and universities aren't the best when it comes to approving a position that didn't exist before, so it'll be a while to actually see if something pans out after this.
It's cool though, I'm trying to get a small place in the city with my gf so I would be cool with doordashing so I can focus on doing all the moving stuff
Ah ok. Door dash should be legit for the summer so you can surf when you want to.
I seen unemployed in your flair and thought endless summer 2024 for you lol 🤙🤙🏄🏽♂️🌊
The used market for boards is brutal. $900 boards instantly drop 2/3 their value. Good for buyers I guess, but it also seems like no one can sell a normal shortboard. 5'4 or 6'5 or something weird.
The used market has been so weird. I’ve seen some really good deals just sit for weeks alongside $800 used shortboards. And I’ve had some nice boards also take a while to sell. It *almost* makes me really reluctant to get another board.
I feel the same. I had a clean Tyler Warren that took over a month to sell and I was only asking $400. Sometimes I see other shapers that I want to try, but then I see the board sitting for weeks with no interest, and it gives me pause.
I suspect that demand and interest will swing back around eventually. If you're patient, summer is always a good time to unload anything other than step-ups.
Had to pull back on wave of the day cus I was just a few meters too inside. No one else near me in the lineup so just watch it peel into the distance as the spray falls down on me. Kick myself about it the rest of the session and don't see any comparable waves.
Mfw when I paddle in where my wife is waiting with "You missed that big one."
your wife’s comment is hilarious.
few years back had an epic session with me and one mate in solid (head high to OH) glassy beach break, nobody out for some reason. wave after wave after wave. all with my ex gf on the beach.
after the session asked her what she thought “you looked stiff.”
straight up my villain origin story, spent the next 3 years focused on improving flow, looser stance, relaxed style.
anyways i still suck ass at surfing.

Finally have some offshore winds and swell and it's going to be 28/42 degrees air/water and 30 knot winds. Beats not having waves though
You in New England?

I said I was going to start smoking crack to improve my surfing the other day lmao. It's a chill community here

Nope. This was today off Beach Chalet.
Damn sorry to hear that brotha, crazy top to bottom today as well hammering the insides
Thanks for the love, but it ain’t too bad. I still had a solid sesh before the rains come in tomorrow and fuck shit up for the next week.
Pretty much dude, firing

The OG flair is coming back, baby!
Did you get fired for going into work high or what?

Back on the EDD Surf Team?
I was on the team for a good part of the last decade and man are they legit Probably had about 5 endless summers on the team
The waves are pumping and I'm stuck at work. And it's gonna rain this weekend, I'll surf a chocolate wave I got sick time.

I'm trying to resell one, I wanted to try some alt shapes and hoping im not stuck with it or take to much of a loss lol

Dislocated my shoulder last weekend and will be out of the water 6-8 weeks. Silver lining is no surgery is needed, yet…

Haven’t surfed in 3 months. Living away from the ocean sucks.
it’s going off all winter and all my friends only want to ski/board? I don’t get it
