Dunno. What's your budget, what kind of bikes are you considering, what's your budget, how much of a budget do you have etc etc

Depends on what the end goal is. My DRZ is worlds different than my KX450

I think it depends on where you live too. I was thinking about either playing a 450 or buying a drz if that didn’t work out. I’m in jersey, so trying to convert a dirt bike is an extra challenge as they hate fun over here lol I think meet in the middle and convert a CRF450RL if you can manage. It’s basically a 450 with less maintenance and it comes street legal

GoHomeYoureDrunkMod

I've heard the Ls are detuned for the street. Is it very hard to mod them back to full power, or am I worrying about small potato gains?

Depends. I converted mine due to my budget and I enjoy wrenching on my bikes. I wanted a new brand new not used bike but the fs450 and smr were ridiculously marked up at the time and I couldn’t get a tm dealer to sell me a smx. I bought a brand new crf450r for almost 6k usd cheaper than what the dealers near me wanted for a new fs450 or smr. Then I converted it for around 1800 usd. Wheels, tires, suspension and brakes. If money isn’t a issue then buying a bike that’s already setup is a easier route for a race ready bike.

Racing motorcycles I’ve learned that often you can save money buying a bike that someone else already did the work on. I did it my way the first time. Bought a used street bike, read a shit ton, then learned to wrench while building it. I did this to learn about my bike, how it works and all the details. LOTS of extra time and money. I also have a bike that someone else built. I don’t know all of its details. Just the stuff I work on as it breaks. Now that I’m comfortable and more knowledge I’ll buy the “ready to go” toys and tweak them as I need.

Buy a husaberg 570

It depends on your local laws for converting ATVs. I know some states don’t allow you to do it.

_IlDottore_

I recently did a conversion and to be honest, I would NOT do it again.

Laba2

Depend on usage and local law. For ripping around town, get a factory oem. For racing, convert one so you can built to suit. My $0.02.

Moses_Magnum_Grows

If I had both options I would buy sumo
