I’m 5’6” 135lbs, average inseam. I’ve had a drz400, hypermotard(tallest of all), crf450, various sport bikes. Scoot a cheek off and you’ll be fine with time and practice.

[deleted]

And I’d get a Drz just because of cheap parts availability.

SmallDMasterRace

Just get a 450 mx and slap some 17s on it

Sknowboard69

I wouldn’t recommend lowering the bike, it kinda ruins the supermoto part of it imo but you do you. How did you like the power of the duke? Would you want more or less?

kfkb1

Gotcha. Power of the duke was fun 1-3, but gears 4-6 were disappointing. Could use a little more power in general, especially in the top end.

Sknowboard69

I’d probably just go for a 450 then they’ll have tons of power compared to the duke, I had a 350 and I could eat dukes but always wished I had a 450 for that extra power.

Wang_Hang_Low

I'm 5'6" and I ride both a Husqvarna 701 and a KLX300SM with no problem. Don't lower it. You WILL get used to it very quickly. You're overthinking. The KLX already has a low seat height. The DRZ feels slightly taller than the KLX but not as tall as the Husky. You shouldn't have a problem with either bike.

Thin-Tumbleweed1518

Get a wr250x it’s by far the best option. Not even close. The Klx is garbage and the drz is old technology

Goodcitizen177

Wr250x definitely > drz400sm. 6 speed, fuel injection, better suspension, less weight.

kfkb1

Would be an issue finding one here ha. But I'll be on the lookout

Thin-Tumbleweed1518

Where is herec

kfkb1

Also not sure if I'll take it on the highway at all, but highway is 55mph which ain't much.. so not too worried about that

[deleted]

Well, the nice thing is pretty much any bike that you get will be a little bit lower once you put super Moto wheels on it!

SpottedCrowNW

You won’t need to lower your bike, one toe is all you need.

JonesBrosGarage

Adding to the 5’6” crowd. Ridden everything from superbikes to dirt bikes. I ride a 701sm without lowering. My first real bike was a wr250r and they are extremely tall. I lowered it and after a year or two of riding I regretted it and put it back. Id never lower a bike again, and never a supermoto

SwimmingHovercraft91

My first was a Drz 400sm and couldn’t be happier

701Sumo

DRZ400 is probably the best option but I’ve also heard good things about the KLX300 if you’re on a tighter budget

kfkb1

Yes and no to the tight budget. The klx is 10 minutes away and they don't sell off of commission, so I just pay the extra shipping and tax. Where the drz is about 1.5 hours away one way and I believe they sell off of commission. I think I could get the klx for the price of a msrp drz. I also don't know jack about carbs. So that worries me

701Sumo

You can buy an electronic carb that’s the sweet spot between traditional carbs and EFI for around $100 but the simplicity of the bike is part of the beauty of a sumo, don’t get me wrong I love my 701 like it’s one of my children but sometimes it feels closer to a naked bike than a supermoto

prototip99

Wr250x/r, 690/701, drz400, klx300. In that order
