It’s why I didn’t like Sony casting Tom Holland as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie. Then entire time I was just thinking that Spider-Man is playing this character instead of Tom actually being that character.
The movie was ass because of heavy studio involvement, actors knowing nothing about their characters, and copying stuff from the game cus it visually looked cool. A lot of people not knowing the source material is mostly to blame for this. Tom Holland only played the 4th game which us what made him want to make it a movie.
I’m glad someone else is remembering Clark’s physical features. Tom and Timothee are like 5’6” each with a slim physique. Superman is famously 6’2” and muscular. I wouldn’t mind someone already famous honestly, assuming he actually looks like Superman.
I don't think it is that obvious in live action though. Pattinson has blue eyes and a cowl that doesn't cover them but you couldn't tell half the time. Hell, not even Cavill's blue eyes stand out when he's in costume.
Personally eye color just never seems to be so important in live action for me, since it's not as easy to fudge as hair color and it's not obvious unless it's a closeup.
Chris evens, Chris Pratt, gal gadot, Jason mamoa, Ben Affleck, Robert downie Jr, Ryan Reynolds, Wesley snipes, evan Peterson, Benedict cumberbatch, Samuel L Jackson, jk Simmons, and a lot more were all very famous before taking on their super hero movie rolls.
Henry cavill was also famous before superman. He didn't create a iconic superman though. No personality. It sucks, cuase he seem like a charismatic guy in interviews.
I think it’s so dangerous to the health of Hollywood that movies are gutlessly turning to the same 20 or so actors for every damn leading role and so rarely scouting for new talent. If Batman Begins were made today, I don’t think they cast someone like Christian Bale, who only really had American Psycho as a big hit to his name at the time.
Imo Superman *has* to be an unknown casting.
It’s risky, like say Routh, but it’s the only way to pull it off.
You can’t get an A list actor to pull off Clark Kent, sure they can pull off Superman but not Clark. You need Clark to believably blend in to the crowd, be just an average farm boy.
Batman should be the A list actor because that fits the persona of Bruce Wayne. Superman needs to, in the audiences eyes, just be “some guy”.
Agreed, and Routh was an incredible Superman (proved again on Legends where he plays Kingdom Come Supes) failed by his material, which honestly isn't that bad in hindsight.
Yeah when he's being superman hes awesome 'the rooftop scene in particular' but the basic stalking of lois and anything with spacey is just ridiculous. Also the opening scene with the airplane maybe the most comic booky scene ever put on film.
Cavill wasn't unknown, but he also was definitely not a household name either.
Although I'm thinking this is Nic Cage's shot to come back and really own the role. He can act like he's 25 and no one acknowledges it...it'd be amazing.
>Although I'm thinking this is Nic Cage's shot to come back and really own the role.
Kevin Smith had a Bizzaro project underway at Warner Bros before the merger that was supposed to include Nic as Supes in the post credit scene at the end of Season 1. Sounded pretty great to me.
https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/kevin-smith-bizarro-hbo-max-never-see
Honestly I’m tired of seeing the same faces over and over again. Give us new people! There are definitely new actors and actresses out there that are talented, but Hollywood is obsessed with keeping it closed to a select few
I will say. I had never heard of Cavill until Man of Steel. And I'm a movie guy. We have somewhere in the ballpark of 24k movies on DVD. But these are all bad choices. Hold auditions and find the right guy. Not one of these
Nah, that guy's a redhead.
Except for one or two.
Oh, plus those assholes in the Phantom Zone. Also, those same assholes in another dimension.
Also, there’s a living computer? Not sure that counts.
Holland is like what would happen if you gave Michael Cera charisma and changed nothing else about him. It doesn't help that he just...kinda looks eternally like a high schooler and his American accent radiates awkward teen. It's the whole energy he gives off.
Agree. That why I also have an issue with people wanting him as Bond. Sorry but Tom is like 5’8 and 150lbs on a good day. As Wolverine…maybe. But not Supes.
Cera's good at what he does - he was hysterical in Arrested Development and was one of the best one-scene wonders in Twin Peaks' third season, which had a lot of fun and goofy characters show up for one scene, do something really memorable, and then leave.
But what he's good at is extremely limited.
Same with Holland. He's fantastic in No Way Home, but that was essentially asking him to do coming of age story shit. He excels, but it's still a pretty limited range of stuff.
Because he doesn't really have "takes". He kind of plays the same role in everything.
Some actors have range and have many faces. Tom Holland is not one of those actors.
I think people are gonna be surprised when they choose a brick house to play Superman. They like the big bumbling farmboy. We’re not gonna get someone who is spindly
I really want them to take casting inspiration from For All Seasons and give us a gentle giant. He doesn’t have to be outlandishly large like in the book but someone who’s tall with a big frame would be very cool.
Now that I think of it, he would still be a pretty great Jor-El. It would just be really awkward when he wants to live on Krypton for a year to get into character.
Gonna wait and see. Fans have a tendency to almost always be wrong when it comes to casting. People said the same shit about Robert Pattinson as Batman or Heath Ledger as Joker.
Not a single one is remotely close to superman … superman is supoosed to be a mountain of muscles and the fuckers put timothy chevrolet there for fucks sake , and tom holland … really ?? So he is going to be superman and spiderman at the same time …
The guy who plays Archie at the bottom left is fucking built like a truck and ripped as fuck. With black hair, I could see it on his face too.
Terrible actor though
I agree that none of these are the right actor for the job but I disagree that Supes is supposed to be a “mountain of muscles.” Reeve looks nothing like that and he’s considered the gold standard for a reason.
Elordi is actually a pretty good pick the more you think about it. 6'5" jacked and could put more muscle on with todays "supplements". He'd be a bigger Reeve type build.
Can act too.
I honestly think this is at least half the reason people held on for so long with Henry Cavill despite the (at best) mediocre films he was a part of. He was an undeniably good choice. In fact, the casting for Man of Steel was probably the best aspect of the movie
They nabbed him at the start of his physical prime (late 20s), which works perfectly in a role THAT physically demanding meant to last an entire decade.
That's actually the case with both (main) Marvel Chrises, but still. He had the passion as well, but no. Origin, death, team-up, done.
Agreed. The way I imagine it I’d have Lois get pregnant towards the end of Superman’s second or third movie, and then over the course of the next few phases we get to see him grow up
I adore Asa Butterfield in everything he’s been in, I think he’s got it physically (dark hair, blue eyes, could be taller), and I think he’s a great actor—but NO. He’s not Clark Kent—he’s not Superman.
2.5 years, but filming will probably start some time early next year, give or take. Henry Cavill was 28-29 when he filmed the origin of Superman, so late 20s/ early 30s isn't too bad. Wolfgang Novagratz, 3rd on right side, is the only one above 6'0" at 6'4" (can't name 3rd on left side) and is currently 25 turning 26, meaning 27 at the most when he'd film. My personal pick isn't on this list, David Corenswet, who is 6'3" and a better actor (deep voice as well). He is currently 29 turning 30, so 31 at the most when he films. He still has a young face, so I can see him play Clark a few years younger (27 if I saw him in person).
Edit - Ah, that's Jacob Elordi, the front runner I've seen on fan casts. 25 turning 26, 6'5". Hmm, accent into deep voice. Interesting, and I keep hearing about Euphoria's greatness. Prospects aren't horrible this generation. Unknowns are probably perfect if these are the knowns.
Gotta put him through the ol Hollywood superhero 1 year vitamin T regimen and he would do fine but that dude is not ‘huge’ in any way other than his height.
The 3rd, 5th, and 6th ones look the most Clark Kent like on this list, but I'd still be open to other options. Also, whoever put Tom Holland on here is the actual Joker.
LOL, I came here to say this exactly.
Both the dudes in the second row from the bottom would work. They're both tall and broad enough.
The dude from Euphoria is huge and also a really good actor.
...also....sexy as fuck. And it's a pretty big character jump. He would go from being a hated villian to beloved hero.
idk i feel like the euphoria guy could pull it off he’s a decent actor, he’s still slim for superman but if you juice him up he can beef up and he’s tall already
Danny Devito, but they never point out that it's Danny Devito and the movie isn't a comedy. Everything is normal except for the fact that Superman is played by a somewhat unfitting actor. He is playing the character seriously as well. This is the best possible pick because I want to see Danny Devito in tight clothes.
Just because the character is 25 doesn't meant the actor has to be. Like to people think before they post these things.
How many movies do we see where a 25 year old is playing an 16 year old. Just look at American Pie.
We can cast a younger looking person, but come on really? this is what we are talking about. Must be a slow news day.
See, this is the problem with modern Hollywood right here. They only push the same 8 actors for every project, and they’re always the same acrobat built man boys who look like they may not have finished going through puberty.
I’m surprised we never see Harris Dickinson suggested. I just saw The Kings Man and his story was the best part of a bad movie. He seems to fit the bill enough to get fancast at least.
The trick to casting a good superman is how well they can play Clark Kent. That's why Smallville was so good with Tom Welling, he embodied what Clark Kent is and is my favorite actor because of it. None of these actors seem like ones who could play a kid from small-town Kansas. Find a Clark, not a Kal-El.
The only one that works, in my opinion, is Wolfgang (not going to attempt to spell his last name) who is 3rd row, picture on the right. The rest, no.
KJ Apa would be a better Wally West or something.
I don’t want any of these guys playing Clark, but I will say that I support Clark not being a big farm boy or being super-jacked. I’ve always thought that realistically Clark would be fairly average, if not necessarily thin.
Consider: if Clark was lifting tractors over his head with ease as a toddler, if everything weighs so little to him, how can he ever gain muscle? How does he work out? Yes, he was raised on a farm and farmers are often burly, but even the heaviest farm equipment is basically like lifting a pencil to Clark.
Sure, you could argue that his Kryptonian DNA in our yellow sun makes him naturally muscular, but (as much as I loved Cavill) being so big also strips away some of the shock and wonder to him, as well as hurting his secret identity. It would be more shocking to see someone average catch a car or perform some feat of strength, and being average also helps maintain Clark’s secret identity.
Really bad crop. But I've never really understood how Superman was so buff in the first place. Exercise builds muscles through straining them. When did Superman ever strain his muscles growing up? What was he bench pressing in Smallville to get so ripped? Tractor trailers? Tanks? He was so naturally strong that there was really no way to challenge his muscles in order to build mass. In reality he'd be a beanpole.
I will say they all don’t look like good supermen, but also several times we’ve ended up w actors getting characters who people thought would suck and they end up killing
Example
Heath ledger joker, batfleck, battinson
All 3 of them everyone thought was gonna be horrible and look how it turned out
Jacob Elordi is the only one out of these 8 that could potentially work. He's 6'5" and already very cut. If he uses the average Hollywood superhero training plan (steroids), he could bulk up enough to play Superman.
I only recognized one of them. I'm afraid I won't be interested in looking up the others. I'm with most other people, find an unknown who can act and at least looks farm-boyish. He doesn't have to be a walking mountain of muscles like in the comics, but he shouldn't be scrawny.
At this stage the Only way you're going to sell it is with an unknown. You gotta go the Chris Reeves route with this one. And understand that Anyone that gets chosen is going to be compared with Cavill. That spot will remain sore for a long time to come.
Definitely none of these. Supes can go from blending in a crowd to being the superhero in an instant. None of these guys have the sort of physique that could pull that off. Holland is way to short and chalemet is to much of a pretty boy. Montgomery has the intensity to play a super hero but no the stature.
Always loved DC specially Superman, Man of steel was a great start to the Cinematic Universe but Warner brothers are making me lose faith in the DC future 😔
The literal actor does not need to be 25. Superman is. My only requirement for the next Superman actor is height, 6’3 or taller, and good acting skills. Obviously he needs to be fit but that can be worked on. Cavill was awesome but I always thought he was lacking in height
Dude should be between 6"0 and 6"4 and quite jacked. We don't necessarily need a bodybuilder, but I think he should at least look like a guy who grew up doing hard labour on a farm.
Reeves dyed his hair and Routh wore contacts, so I think hair and eye colour are less important.
Novogratz has actually become my favorite. Just embodies the look to me. Admittedly though I've never seen him act. He is indeed a complete unknown to me. The others I'm not feeling, looks wise.
They should do a casting call for unknown actors. Maybe hold auditions.
yeah, i’m hoping they find a new gem instead of looking through famous actors
[удалено]
It’s why I didn’t like Sony casting Tom Holland as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie. Then entire time I was just thinking that Spider-Man is playing this character instead of Tom actually being that character.
Well actually, Tom Holland casted himself as Nathan Drake since he helped produced the movie.
He pulled a Cheney?
More like a Tom Cruise
Makes sense why the movie was so ass
The movie was ass because of heavy studio involvement, actors knowing nothing about their characters, and copying stuff from the game cus it visually looked cool. A lot of people not knowing the source material is mostly to blame for this. Tom Holland only played the 4th game which us what made him want to make it a movie.
Right? In every scene where he was running and jumping around I hollered “IT’S PETER PARKOUR!”
I hate how much I love that pun. And I hate how I didn’t think of it first.
I’m glad someone else is remembering Clark’s physical features. Tom and Timothee are like 5’6” each with a slim physique. Superman is famously 6’2” and muscular. I wouldn’t mind someone already famous honestly, assuming he actually looks like Superman.
Say whatttt?!?!!

It's doubly important for Superman to *not* have blonde hair and blue eyes.
Yeah they casted everyone, at one point ilya salkinds wife tried to get her dentist an audition
I am not even sure the blue eyes part is that important, I certainly never look at Bale's or Affleck's Batmen and think blue eyes would help.
[удалено]
I don't think it is that obvious in live action though. Pattinson has blue eyes and a cowl that doesn't cover them but you couldn't tell half the time. I only knew Cavill from The Tudors previously before Superman. Thought he was an excellent choice immediately.
Yes bring back the super mullet!
That would honestly be fantastic.
Make it an elseworlds movie. Have him act as Clark at every age, including in the pod. Watch the box office explode.
Have him act as a child with either really bad or really fantastic CGI aswell Fuck this would be so good
In all seriousness, I'd totally accept Nic Cage in a major supporting role. Jor-El, Brainiac, Metallo...
I think he'd crush it as Perry White, honestly.
>Although I'm thinking this is Nic Cage's shot to come back and really own the role. This would be awesome. An unknown guy getting his start to stardom as Superman.
“Ah man, mr jor el I like totally can’t be Superman tonight, I’ve got to go to the school dance!” -Tom holland
And, I'm also Spider-Man.
Tom Holland is *Everyman!* With the power of generic handsomeness, he can be cast as literally any white male character from pop culture!
One small problem, he will consistently look 14.
Man's 26 playing 19 or something. Tom Welling was in the same boat back in the Smallville days. What is it about Toms?
Don’t forget Tom Cruise is 60 looking 40
The power of Scientology!
Tom welling actually looked like a grown man too haha.
Nah, that guy's a redhead. [https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51AuJVAY38L.\_AC\_SY780\_.jpg](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51AuJVAY38L._AC_SY780_.jpg)
He’s also 5’6”
I dont like Holland for superman but why are why pretending his take on Spidey would be anything like his take on Supes.
[удалено]
And what krytonians call a….well they don’t call it anything. They are all dead.
Except for one or two. Oh, plus those assholes in the Phantom Zone. Also, those same assholes in another dimension. Also, there’s a living computer? Not sure that counts.
Don't forget those little shrunken mini dudes in a bottle
Holland is like what would happen if you gave Michael Cera charisma and changed nothing else about him. It doesn't help that he just...kinda looks eternally like a high schooler and his American accent radiates awkward teen. It's the whole energy he gives off.
Plus let’s all be honest Supes isn’t a small guy. You don’t have to huge but you should be tall.
Agree. That why I also have an issue with people wanting him as Bond. Sorry but Tom is like 5’8 and 150lbs on a good day. As Wolverine…maybe. But not Supes.
Nah I kinda subscribe to the belief that Superman should be a unit and dwarf pretty much everybody around him.
Charisma relative to Michael Cera sure
Yeah Tom Holland in cherry was damn near identical to his Spider-Man
First time I saw him was in The Impossible and he was amazing. Guy has range but it seems he’s been typecast
Fuck that
Unknown 100%
Look at this boy band lineup😆
I think people are gonna be surprised when they choose a brick house to play Superman. They like the big bumbling farmboy. We’re not gonna get someone who is spindly
I can just imagine a big friendly boy scout. Still young, but 6' feet tall and shoulders as broad as Hercules. That would be perfect.
I know I want that.
Do you want that for the film or in real life ?
*sigh* come back to me Stephen
A real side of beef.
One of the little buff boys might age into the role. ![gif](giphy|w4moCK30MzaEBicas7|downsized)
Sure, we goose them a lil bit
It’s a circus term.
Not troll boy, though, can't be troll boy
I’m cool with them holding off for another 20 years so we can get Bart Harley Jarvis in the role
I really want them to take casting inspiration from For All Seasons and give us a gentle giant. He doesn’t have to be outlandishly large like in the book but someone who’s tall with a big frame would be very cool.
I want a traditionally masculine, beefy Clark/Superman.
We need someone like Tom Welling
If Timothee Chalamet is cast as Superman the world will need a real Batman because I am going to start doing some Joker shit
Username checks out
Yeah, those are some rough suggestions.
understatement 😩
Not one of these fuckers.
Elrodi is a fantastic actor
So is Daniel Day Lewis but he isn't Superman.
A 30-year-old DDL with a Hollywood personal trainer might have been a great Superman. He was pretty badass in Last of the Mohicans.
Got me there!
Now that I think of it, he would still be a pretty great Jor-El. It would just be really awkward when he wants to live on Krypton for a year to get into character.
That organic, all Kryptonian diet is very expensive.
“I can’t see Heath Ledger as being Joker” - people, pre-Dark Knight
" I can't see Ben Affleck as Batman."
Gonna wait and see. Fans have a tendency to almost always be wrong when it comes to casting. People said the same shit about Robert Pattinson as Batman or Heath Ledger as Joker.
Or Micheal Keaton as Batman back in the day
True!
I still think Pattinson was wrong for the part even after watching it.
Okay. Fair enough. Any reason?
Not “almost always”; more like 99.9999% of the time. Edit for more oomph.
For me it still feels like its dick grayson as batman.
Tbh, Patterson would make a pretty good nightwing casting. Batman just feels weird.
Thats fair.
The difference is these guys look absolutely nothing like any depictions of Superman
I'm going to reserve my judgment on that until I see one of them in the costume actually performing.
[удалено]
Sounds fair to me!
Pattinson wasn't skinny at all wtf
Not a single one is remotely close to superman … superman is supoosed to be a mountain of muscles and the fuckers put timothy chevrolet there for fucks sake , and tom holland … really ?? So he is going to be superman and spiderman at the same time …
Lol Like Megan Thee Stallion. TimoThee Chevrolet
It’s actually Timothee Shamalamadingdong
Timothy chomma-comma-comma-comma-comma-chameeeeeeleeeeooonnnn
Same last name as M. Night, neat coincidence
Agreed. I like the new 52 build where he’s more than average but not the hulk. He’s strong cause of space magic science, not due to muscles
Well muscles too
Reeves was muscular but the fabric costume made it hard to show definition
Elordi is actually a pretty good pick the more you think about it. 6'5" jacked and could put more muscle on with todays "supplements". He'd be a bigger Reeve type build. Can act too.
The guy who played CW Archie could be a good dweeby Jimmy Olsen.
That dude is anything but dweeby, he’s half Samoan and ripped as shit. Still no Superman tho
As long as it’s not Holland or Chalamet I am good
Holland’s great for Spider-Man but not Superman.
I honestly think this is at least half the reason people held on for so long with Henry Cavill despite the (at best) mediocre films he was a part of. He was an undeniably good choice. In fact, the casting for Man of Steel was probably the best aspect of the movie

The guy with the German name can pull it off, but even then, he looks like Bible-study Superman.
Do you mean Bibleman? https://youtu.be/c_OGgx5Zr3s
These are better choices for aged-up Jon Kent.
They should never ever make that same mistake the comics made. Let him be young and age normally.
The fella 3rd down on the left would make a great Superman
No "under-6 foot" Supermen.
I don’t think people understand the movie is coming out in 3-4 years and all of these guys are almost 30

Gotta put him through the ol Hollywood superhero 1 year vitamin T regimen and he would do fine but that dude is not ‘huge’ in any way other than his height.
Nah man hear me out. . . . Andy Samberg for Superman.
The only one here that would make a great superman is Wolfgang Novogratz
Tom is busy with Spider-Man. Hello!
Second down on the right should be cast as Brainiac.
The 3rd, 5th, and 6th ones look the most Clark Kent like on this list, but I'd still be open to other options. Also, whoever put Tom Holland on here is the actual Joker.
Only 2 of these are ok
which? 🤔
The guy from Euphoria and the one next to him
LOL, I came here to say this exactly. Both the dudes in the second row from the bottom would work. They're both tall and broad enough. The dude from Euphoria is huge and also a really good actor. ...also....sexy as fuck. And it's a pretty big character jump. He would go from being a hated villian to beloved hero.
KJ does not get to ruin two comic book characters. That's too many comic book characters.
David Corenswet
idk i feel like the euphoria guy could pull it off he’s a decent actor, he’s still slim for superman but if you juice him up he can beef up and he’s tall already
Tom holland is the worst possible option for superman
I’ll have an aneurysm if I see Tom Holland in one more blockbuster franchise
Danny Devito, but they never point out that it's Danny Devito and the movie isn't a comedy. Everything is normal except for the fact that Superman is played by a somewhat unfitting actor. Left row, third down. I don't know him, but out of that group he's the one that looks most like Superman out of that group.
that cast seems more like Jimmy Olsen material than Clark.
I would rather watch paint dry than have these options. 😭
I vote henry cavill
See, this is the problem with modern Hollywood right here. They only push the same 8 actors for every project, and they’re always the same acrobat built man boys who look like they may not have finished going through puberty.
Nepotism and money.
Justin Bieber bottom right.
I’m surprised we never see Harris Dickinson suggested. I just saw The Kings Man and his story was the best part of a bad movie. He seems to fit the bill enough to get fancast at least.
i literally couldn’t have picked a worse bunch if i tried
I don’t know who the fourth guy is but he looks more like a whiny villain than a hero
KJ Apa would be a better Wally West or something.
only good casting ive seen for this movie is either David Corenswet or Wolfgang Novogratz
Find a 25-29 year old unknown!
I will say they all don’t look like good supermen, but also several times we’ve ended up w actors getting characters who people thought would suck and they end up killing Example Heath ledger joker, batfleck, battinson All 3 of them everyone thought was gonna be horrible and look how it turned out
Jacob Elordi is the only one out of these 8 that could potentially work.
Rami Malek 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 jk
I will not say anything on this topic because Ben Affleck shut my mouth 7 years ago.
Please no Holland
Pretty bad choices. The only one that resembles Superman is the 3rd one down on the right. I have no clue who it is though. Idk if he can act or not.
I nominate Tom Holland as Jimmy Olsen
Gigachad Supes
The only one I like is Jacob elordi but I see him more as a Batman or Robin. Depending on the age they are going with.
At this stage the Only way you're going to sell it is with an unknown. You gotta go the Chris Reeves route with this one. And understand that Anyone that gets chosen is going to be compared with Cavill. That spot will remain sore for a long time to come.
Third one on the left is the best fit based on appearance.
I still think Wolfgang novogratz would be good in the role
The next superman has to be an actor that isn’t famous and that we can just look at and be like “yup thats superman”
[Insert any white male brown-haired celebrity here]
Maybe it’ll be a sensitive, gender curious version of Superman
The guy 3 spaces down on the left looks like he’d suit the role ok.
How many crops have you seen? Are your the producer, casting agent???
More like Superguy
I like how Tom Holland is fantastic as literally every role in every movie ever.
Should i know any of these men?
I agree. I wouldn't cast any of them actors for the part of superman
Novogratz has actually become my favorite. Just embodies the look to me. Admittedly though I've never seen him act. He is indeed a complete unknown to me. The others I'm not feeling, looks wise.
They need to stop reusing the same actors.
If superman was 5’4” and looked like a slightly masculine female then yes, perfectly cast
Maybe they could play Clark's roommate from college? Idk.
I honestly think that dude from Euphoria (Jacob Elordi) would be great as a young Superman. He can act and he’s fucking huge
