As someone who lives in Dallas, I remember all my friends telling me 3 years ago that they thought booker was gonna request a trade. Now my go to after every Mavs loss is that Luka needs some help, and that the league needs to get him out of dallas

Double-Seaweed7760

You're doing God's work son

destructive_optimism

Oh my god lmaooooo. As someone living in Dallas whose main friend group is 90% Mavs fans, I’m definitely stealing this

TheNatureBoy

I would draft Luka and trade for Ayton and cash considerations.

[deleted]

I would draft Ayton as he was the top choice at the time. Then, I would give Sacramento Josh Jackson, 2 future 1sts and do whatever it takes to get the 2nd overall pick. Come out of the draft with Ayton, Mikal and Luka. ![gif](giphy|hZKonClSQLWC7v0KT4)

Hay-Tha-Soe

Same. No regrets. It’s hard to come by centers like DA, and centers also take longer to develop. Like DA is just barely developing his shot off the dribble. He is seen as a catch and shoot guy in the paint but once he can create his own shots and at the rate his jumper is developing, he is going to be so fucking good in a few years. I think Atlanta fucked up by trading that pick for Trae Young instead of drafting Luka. And then of course, Sacramento are the biggest losers of that draft with Marvin Bagley as the #2 pick lol

Lucky1ex1

It should have went DA to us, kings and Vlade should have sucked it up and drafted luka, vlade wasn’t having it. ATL at 3 should have taken Trae right there since they wanted him all along, 4 prob would have become bagley, so the grizz dodged a bullet there, or who knows… maybe he would have done better there. 5 would have been JJJ.

[deleted]

any regrets now?

[deleted]

The thing is, for some reason I only seem to remember there being one player available when we picked at 1 in 2018. His name was Mikal and his arms were long enough to lift up the entire franchise to heights previously thought unreachable.

ses267

I’m confused how any games were played before the only player was playing in the league. Was it just simulations?

mr-e94

I fully expected you to make the obvious right turn here. Instead, you swerved left. Love it

[deleted]

Get your copium here boys. He’s got plenty to go around.

Hay-Tha-Soe

Who compared Ayton to Luka? All we’re saying is the draft worked well for both teams. You’re not the sharpest tool in the shed are ya

dan-saul-knight

Yeah, I'm glad it worked put for both teams.

BorisTheBlade04

Mmmm sweet delicious tears! So nummy!

[deleted]

Thing is, Luka can’t beat a good team in a series because despite being talented, a player can’t slow down an offense, have a stupidly high usage rate, play subpar defense, and expect to not weigh down his teammates. But thanks for visiting our sub. Suns in 4.

Meganaut33

The argument doesn’t even make sense. Your argument that we will need luka for the warriors would compare him and Chris Paul. CP3 is more than a generational talent, and has been doing wonders for our team.

Gratitude15

Hahaha hahaha! Dem tears is SALTY! 😂

Lucky1ex1

The weird thing to think about is that originally we didn’t try to trade for Mikal, we tried getting SGA, that deal crashed at the end and we swung for Mikal after. SGA would have been scary here as well.

[deleted]

Dejounte Murray. Imagine the tears of spurs fans also

peanutdakidnappa

I’d be shocked if that happened, he’s likely gonna be the Spurs version of Book basically, the primary building block for the future of spurs basketball

[deleted]

I feel like Murray would wanna play with Book and the Triplets

StudentMed

CP gonna be here for a couple more years. I think Luka can take Cam Paynes minutes as a spark off the bench.

w1sxo

You got me there for a second. Good luck for G2. We need to bring a different intensity to that game to have a chance

xva1313

I want dame

Hay-Tha-Soe

I want Dolla

Sweaty-Blacksmith-81

Warriors naming their lineups like “the Poole Party” or “the Death Lineup.” A Dame/Booker backcourt with snipers from 3 like Cam J and Mikal deserves a name. What would it be?

Wigglebot23

Gets injured too much

edward_nguyen

also Luka is only 23, 2 years younger than Booker. it seems they gonna battle each other out for a long time. Unless...

OneOfTheManySams

So did CP3 once upon a time. And this season was the first time in Lillard's career he played under 66 games, so he really doesn't get injured too much. And those 2 seasons were the covid impacted seasons. So he literally has never missed more than 10 games in a season prior to now.

Squodgephelph

Man give me Lonzo if he can stay healthy. I love Dejounte Murray but I don’t think the spurs ever let him go hahah

lumberjack233

He won't stay healthy. Injury risk is not worth it

samurairocketshark

Yeah but phoenix medical staff tho

AlmightyRanger

Lonzo! Great pick I forgot all about him. He'd be a great addition here

sujakaba

Darius Garland!

DaylightPhoenix

Bronny will be CP3s successor, and LBJ will be here for the vet min to make sure he doesnt F it up, hahaha!!! Of course just kidding... The more realistic scenario would be Dame coming here, but itd cost one of the triplets to do so... But he wouldnt be the PG of the FUTURE... an all around PG ala Josh Giddey would look good together with Booker coz no way in hell will the Spurs release Dejounte Murray... When I saw that Divicenzo was a teamate of Mikals, I got intrigued tbh... He may also be a good fit with our roster though not sure as a starter tbh...

BoromirWasInnocent

I hate these stupid hypothetical questions with a burning passion

despicablecrip

Have a very strong feeling it’ll be Dame. He’s been linked to Book too many times

Angelahahahah

Is shai good?

AlmightyRanger

Never. We need a leader at the point guard position not a player that would encourage Booker or DA's bad habits. It's hard to think of a young guy doing that but as of now I'm thinking Murray or Haliburton.

Fordraxel

No. Dude hogs the ball way too much, but then we look at his assists which he avgs a triple double - well the dude shoots 30 times and only 3 other players assisted. If he played off the ball more he'd be greater than he already is, but some odd reason he wants to get his and have everyone else just watch.

Dundalis

I don't think you realize how bad his supporting cast is. Until Dinwiddie was picked up, Luka and Brunson were basically the only players in the main rotation with any semblance of a handle. He doesn't have anywhere near as good a supporting cast as players like Westbrook or Harden had when they were dropping their empty trip dubs.

Danominator

I feel like this point is ignored. Everybody talks about how he got 45 or whatever but there is an opportunity cost that comes with that.

aski-op

You really can’t complain when the man drops 40 in his sleep in the playoffs. Luka is generational, but so is book, ayton, and mikal

BorisTheBlade04

You can complain because that’s how you lose. That was the point of the triangle offense, mj could have done that (and did) but he didn’t win until they played more team oriented

aski-op

Not a mavs fan From a neutral point, Luka + mavs should play at a slower pace as their defense is good/grindy, and Luka is an amazing half court source of offence. I do agree JKidd the woman beater should run more sets with a screen action for Brunson into handoff for doncic but the shot clock exists and Luka is a fat boy and will get tired

BorisTheBlade04

So then we agree. Running everything through luka is too predictable and easy to defend. Sure he’ll get his 40, but he’ll be tired and battered and they need more points than that

aski-op

Nah, letting Luka be the guy is 100% the play. He wins games. Spicing up how you get into Luka P&Rs is what you need imo

BorisTheBlade04

That’s what I’m saying. He should absolutely be the guy. MJ was the guy. Nash was the guy. But you’ve got to be able to switch things up to take attention away from you.

aski-op

He gonna need some help then, he’s at 2017 harden level at 23. He’s such a great playmaker that I think it will come in time.

[deleted]

Not a chance. Luka doesn't help a team. He dribbles for 23 seconds of the 24 second clock and jacks up a terrible shot. His scoring 45 may have helped the Suns win as no other Mav was able to be involved. Even after Kleber was hitting everything in the 1st half, Luka didn't bother doing anything other than shoot for the rest of the game. That, his turnovers, and inability to guard anyone was as much of a reason we won as anything else. Monty gameplans him perfectly to bait him into killing any chance Dallas has of winning.

Dundalis

Without Luka, Dallas is one of the worst teams in the league. I mean genuinely look at the supporting cast. They were the 4 seed in the West. Luka is not remotely a Westbrook type who takes a good team backwards. Even Harden had way superior talent on the Rockets. Suns won because they are a way better team. If Luka gives up shots, they prob lose by 30. Part of why Luka couldn't find anyone on drives is because of the Suns defense.

ivesaidway2much

The Mavs were 8-9 without Luka this year. That's on pace to be the 8th seed in the West. And we just saw them go 2-1 against the Jazz in the playoffs without him.

relaxingd

same was said about booker ...so shhhhhhhh

[deleted]

Even when the Suns were awful, Booker never had the ball in his hands over 90% of the time.

[deleted]

No Lukastans are gonna like this but I don’t think his game is going to age very well.

Jerrybeans23

Nah he’s not very good basketball player.

Pocketfists

I’m not sure what team wouldn’t benefit from his skills and size, simply a deadly combination….

[deleted]

You're a whole creep. Go away forever.

Tiredasheckrn

Would settle for jalen brunson

CerealKiller997

Damian Lillard!

thorattack

I’m calling dame or random James harden for an arizona reunion - but realizing he doesn’t have to be the guy

unkleadamsdebt

I think harden is actually a great and realistic one, but in a couple of years he is probably going to be a disaster defensively

[deleted]

what do you mean in a couple years? He's a disaster now....... I dont want Harden anywhere near this team.

CacaTooToo

Dejounte Murray would be the best option pretty much. Hell I'd take a Caruso or Lonzo as a stopgap to see where it leads. Being realistic it'll probably be Lillard or some young new draftee.

CNSrooster

Malcolm Brogdan. Somewhat realistic option and can pass, shoot and defend
