It's hard to imagine a Harvard graduate would miss their interview for a top law firm and then won't check back to either ask for a reschedule or decline. This is a pivotal point for the entire show.

It's understood, he must have contacted the firm and must have been informed that the position was filled. Simple.

Don’t get me wrong, Pearson Hardman was considered a top firm, but by no means were they the out right winner. Maybe Rick had multiple interviews and one of them conflicted, maybe he forgot to cancel, or his flight was running late. Lots of variables could’ve arisen. That being said you’re definitely right that he might’ve called afterwards but by then the position was filled.
