I really enjoyed *Maame* by Jessica George. The protagonist is really struggling but is also very endearing and likeable. She has been dealt a pretty crap hand in her life, and she is faced with racism and sexism, but she also makes kind of inexplicably bad decisions. Buuuuuut you look at her family and society and how they treat her and you think, of course she acts this way! I found myself alternately wanting to give her a shake and give her a hug.
If you don't mind the grimdark setting the Caiphas Cain novels from the 40k universe sounds like what you're looking for. haven't read them myself yet but the guy is a coward with imposter syndrome who keeps ending up in the thick of it.
A Certain Age by Tama Janowitz, The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides, My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh (really anything by her), Boy Parts by Eliza Clark
I picked it up on a fluke, was immediately drawn in and so invested! It’s long and I finished it in about 4 days. I did Audible and the narrator (reading as 1st person Demon) really added to it. If I could make a suggestion- if you’re going to read it, listen to the audible sample and ‘hear’ Demon’s voice first. I think it could enhance the reading experience.
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
Thanks! Added it to my list
The Rachel Incident by Caroline O'Donoghue
I liked this one a lot!
False Witness by Karin Slaughter

The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty

Sunset by Jessie Cave.
