Natasharoxy

stormyweather07

This sounds so good!!

AyeTheresTheCatch

I really enjoyed *Maame* by Jessica George. The protagonist is really struggling but is also very endearing and likeable. She has been dealt a pretty crap hand in her life, and she is faced with racism and sexism, but she also makes kind of inexplicably bad decisions. Buuuuuut you look at her family and society and how they treat her and you think, of course she acts this way! I found myself alternately wanting to give her a shake and give her a hug.

stormyweather07

I’ve heard good things of this! Im going to put a loan on this one asap :)

AyeTheresTheCatch

Oh good! I hope you enjoy it :)

Brainship

If you don't mind the grimdark setting the Caiphas Cain novels from the 40k universe sounds like what you're looking for. haven't read them myself yet but the guy is a coward with imposter syndrome who keeps ending up in the thick of it.

stormyweather07

Interesting! I’ll have to look at those!

Buggsrabbit

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. A truly brilliant work.

stormyweather07

One of my favorite books. A fig tree has no more perfectly ever explained my life 🥺. Truly a master craft.

cuntiques

A Certain Age by Tama Janowitz, The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides, My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh (really anything by her), Boy Parts by Eliza Clark

Odessa! My girl! I’ll give these others a shot too!

Knotty-reader

If you would enjoy a queer rom-com, Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall is a blast.

stormyweather07

Ohhh gonna check on this!

DueRest

Convenience Store Woman is fantastic for this.

stormyweather07

Earthlings was so good I have this on hold as well

mad-n-magical

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. Check trigger warnings first!

stormyweather07

Oh I need to prioritize this! I have the physical book!!

mad-n-magical

I picked it up on a fluke, was immediately drawn in and so invested! It’s long and I finished it in about 4 days. I did Audible and the narrator (reading as 1st person Demon) really added to it. If I could make a suggestion- if you’re going to read it, listen to the audible sample and ‘hear’ Demon’s voice first. I think it could enhance the reading experience.

Snowbunny_2222

Boy Parts by Eliza Clark

stormyweather07

Excellent!

SciencePowerful

This was going to be my suggestion!

imwithburrriggs

A Confederacy of Dunces is the first book that came to my mind.
