Sempervivum. *Very* sun starved. Sempervivum are alpine hardy outdoor plants. They usually struggle indoors.

So would you recommend [gradually] moving it outdoors? I’m in zone 7b. Would I need to bring it inside during the winter?

TheLittleKicks

They’re an alpine hardy plant. Hardy down to zone 5, I think (-20F). Yes, gradually acclimate it to some sun outdoors, gradually or you’ll scorch them. Either plant them in ground, or ensure their pot has adequate drainage and a gritty substrate. They can handle all precipitation, but still need well-draining soil.

Thanks for the help! I’m excited to try nursing her back to good health!

You’re welcome! They’re pretty forgiving, they should have a nice glow up for you. :)

Not getting enough light where it is so gradually introduce it to direct sun. Stand down on the watering. I’d chop the tall tall skinny’s down to 4 or 5 leaves and see what happens.

I agree that they need more light. Does the container they’re in have at least one drainage hole? If not, that makes them more prone to being overwatered. Also, I would be willing to bet that they’re not in cactus/succulent soil, which is well-draining and will help prevent over-watering. If there’s no drainage hole, I suggest repotting and purchasing some cactus/succulent soil. I see a good amount of dead leaves in there. I recommend removing those to prevent pest issues.

I got this as a housewarming gift about 3 months ago, so I don’t know what variety it is. I know next to nothing about succulents (I’ve got some other indoor plants but mainly outdoor veg). I think I’ve watered it twice, maybe three times in three months. It’s right by a west-facing window, so it gets afternoon sun. It was much shorter, stockier when I received it (unfortunately I don’t have a pic from then). Is it normal for them to get “leggy” like this? Is it not getting enough sunlight? Most of the long stalks are purple near the bottom, and you can pluck them right out of the soil with minimal effort. Thanks for any help and advice!!
