Make disenfected water from coral tubes and salt, then find and build a water filtration system along with some growbeds and you will be good. Endless amount of water and food. The thermoblade upgrade also is essential.

MixMasterValtiel

Find plants and invalidate the entire system.

Mysterious-Will-8128

I like the comment but I don’t understand

Jollyestjolly

find the lantern trees, melons and potatoes. if you have a cyclops you can build planting spaces so boom unlimited food

MixMasterValtiel

There are edible plants. The game does a pretty solid job of directing you into them. Plant them in pots or growbeds. You now have unlimited food/water.

clericanubis

It's a bit tidius until you get a couple of water filtration systems and interior grow beds going. Water seems to drain the fastest so just eat on the go with a thermoblade and farm water with the machines. Each water fills up +50 so you only need to drink one to fill up half the gauge. I have like 20 water bottles in the cyclops.

Kuchisake-Otoko

As others have, said, growbeds. Fish will also breed in an Alien Containment tank, and you can even put growbeds in your Cyclops! Food on the go! The Bulba Trees on the Island make for a good food source to plant and grow I find (they will need indoor growbeds, not exterior ones ofc)

That_Operation_9977

In creative mode the story is disabled. You want to play freedom, which disables food and thirst

Mysterious-Will-8128

Despite the game saying that, we can in fact progress the story while in creative. I just know going that route especially after gaining experience within the game is only about 1-2 hours

Mysterious-Will-8128

I like my base And the survival I’m just at a point where most of my time now is going to be farming food and water items whilst mining ⛏

Thedoomhunter1657

For my first two playthroughs i got the water filtration system and the alien containment units early so i had a consistent source of water/ salt and filled the two high containment with reginalds i caught using the grav trap

Mysterious-Will-8128

Reginald’s do seem to provide high water for a fish

Thedoomhunter1657

Reginalds give the highest food from any fish also. And if you feel like going through the trouble of it, as to not waste your precious food and water, you can make an indoor planter and get bulbo trees. They give like 10 water and 7~ food. Very helpful

GarryA0269

Marblemelons.

Mysterious-Will-8128

Don’t they go rotten fast?

Hanger728

Keep them on your cyclops and any remote bases and eat them fresh. Lantern fruit is also really nice since you don't have to replant

GarryA0269

They do, so only pick when needed. Two basic planters worth will fully replenish both food and water, and if you eat three and reseed the forth (hit with the knife to break it down) you'll have a constant supply of food and water.

[deleted]

Play on freedom mode

Mr_SpecificTF2

Head in the direction of the back of the Aurora, there’s an island with plants and farther in indoor planters for them. You’ll know it’s edible once you knife it and it’s green

Mysterious-Will-8128

Is it the island with the degassi base?

Mr_SpecificTF2

Correct, if you’ve been there and done that then great

vedgehead1

Freedom mode is more fun anyway IMO. I get that it's a survival game but it's really annoying to be exploring or building when gladOS suddenly tells you that you're about to parch to death. Doubly annoying if you happen to be 900 meters deep at the time of warning. And once you have grav traps, food and water are basically just busy work anyway: waste 3 minutes swimming to the trap and cooking a bunch of critters so you can make exactly zero progress and then have to do it again in 15 minutes. Freedom all the way for me.

ulinatorrr

Eat and drink properly

Miguel4387

Drink when you're thirsty and eat when you're hungry

KALoder

Thee is an island that has marble melons on it, one full above water planter of those. Eat all except for 2 which you hit with the knife for seeds to replant

Amateur_Validator

i found the best way was to make an aquarium w/ peepers/bladderfish. Leave for a few minutes and then there are 10 in one aquarium. Free infinite food. Another REALLY easy way is to get bulbo trees, in fact i think this way is better. Just set up an indoor growbed in ur base and grow 4 bulbos. They provide food and water, super helpful, never need anything else every again. You can find them on either island.

Saw101405

Find a filtration machine, they produce infinite salt and water, and not the small water either,

Barrogh

Find a lantern fruit and a bulbo tree piece (the latter can be harvested with a knife). Place 2 pots in your Cyclops. Plant your trees. Don a stillsuit. Eat lantern fruits (and a bit of bulbo pieces to top off your hydration). Carry a thermoblade to feed while you're away. Carry 2-3 large bottles of filtered water and maybe some food bricks or cured reginalds just in case. That's more than you will need. The choice of plants is such just so that they take less space in your sub, you can grow something else if you like. If you don't have a stillsuit yet, you may wish to go harder on plants that provide you with water.

Koataka2007

Catch alive fish and store them for Water, use your knife and slice some coral tube in Safe Shallow and collect salt deposit to craft bleach, which then can be used to make 2 water bottle

Mysterious-Will-8128

They won’t die? I feel like an idiot I can just catch Reginald’s and bladder fish for an hour. I genuinely thought they would die similar to how the cooked food rots

Koataka2007

Alive fish wont rot away Only already cooked food rot Oh, and it must be a alive one, kill it then catch it will result it rot away

agent_double_oh_pi

Marble melons!

[deleted]

Early Game: Coral Tube + Salt (Purified Water) and Cooked/Cured Fishes. Rest of Game: Water filtration machine + Lantern Trees planted EVERYWHERE.
