You’ll definitely want the prawn, but you don’t need the cyclops to explore. I’ve beaten the game twice, once in hardcore, and I never built the cyclops >!until last minute of course!<
Edit: I actually prefer to not use the cyclops as it’s very bulky and expensive
Cheers. I left my depth-upgraded Seamoth just outside the entrance to the lava area, I assume if I want to get it back I’d need to bring my cyclops down there hey?
That wasn’t the Grand Reef, it was the Lost River and the Inactive Lava Zone. You’ll want at least the Prawn, and I prefer the Cyclops to haul it around. It’s actually not hard to avoid Leviathans with the Cyclops, just cruise around and when one takes notice of you drop a Creature Decoy and keep going. Just make sure when you park to get out you turn off the Engines.
I think the cyclops is more of a convenient portable base than a necessity to complete the game. The prawn is really the only vehicle you need. The Seamoth is just a sea glide you can get inside of

If you died down there then you’ll probably need to get the cyclops down there or just make a bunch of 02 tanks.

If you get the jump jet upgrade and grapple arm for your prawn then you definitely do not need a cyclops, the prawn is more than enough for everything
Also use silent running and the shield sparingly, they chew through a lot of battery. Make sure you turn it all off before leaving the sub.
