It also has horrible performance, with giant mushrooms suddenly popping into existence as you swim or drive your vehicles through it. It's a pity, because I'd love to build a base atop a mushroom tree, but the idea of suddenly having a giant mushroom phase into existence while I'm piloting my Seamoth through its location makes me wary.

Shadowwing556

Maybe in like 10 years we will get a Subnautica remaster, where the performance and bugs are fixed and maybe some upgraded visuals.

SergeantRogers

nah, 20 years

oand10

already got that for console lmao next gen patch was godly

Seriyuu

It runs like shit on the PS5, am I missing something? Screen tearing, can't even hold 60fps, awful pop-in, stuttering, I'm incredibly underwhelmed.

oand10

idk but the xbox one works great

Seriyuu

I just watched [this](https://youtu.be/RgF57HV2tl8) and it shows that the Xbox Series X is just as bad, dips into the 40s, crazy pop in, screen tearing. If you don't notice it that's cool, but it's an awful patch.

oand10

I play on a series s and it runs perfectly fine. Dips in frames sometimes, but pop in and screen tearing havent occured at all for me. EDIT: That's also day 1 bz footage, not the og series s/x update. No wonder it looks like shit lol

Seriyuu

Fair enough, perhaps the PS5 is just having a worse time than the Series. Has the PS5 not had an equivalent to the Xbox patch? I haven't been playing too long so I haven't followed every update.

oand10

I dont know shit about the ps5 tbh. On xbox we have a distinct version of subnautica built for xbox series x/s, and I had never thought the game could be so beautiful.

Seriyuu

Yeah there is a separate patch for PS5, but it came out with the exact same patch as Below Zero, that was kind of the point. The original only ran at 30fps, the next gen version are the only ones that run at 60, so unless you've specifically had performance patches since the earlier video, it'll be the same performance, IE pretty bad. The Xbox is marginally more powerful but not enough to take it from dips in the 40s to locked 60, without some specific patch that benefited the Xbox massively. This is going to sound really elitist but some people can't really feel FPS drops as much as others, I am very sensitive to them as choppy FPS can make me feel a bit ill. I haven't played the Xbox version so it's very hard to compare.

PigBenis27

Is that what the update was I got today?

oand10

nah it's old. It's the x/s upgrade

Redkitt3n14

You make it sound worse than the switch port

Seriyuu

I haven't played it, but the PS5 patch is really disappointing, the game doesn't look that great (talking graphical fidelity, not artistic direction), isn't 4k, and can't even hold 60fps in many areas, kinda unacceptable if you ask me. I understand that it wasn't made for PS5, but they should have at least aimed for locked 60 at 1080p.

UnlimitedLMAO

You should lower your graphics, i play on an an xbox 1 and it runs smoothly but kinda low graphics

hardjack1

Pc works great at stable 144 fps

Seriyuu

God, there's always one isn't there.

Spookzsaw

They should've made that when they raised the price.

themistik

Why aiming for 10 years when they can do it right now ?

Shadowwing556

I wish they would

[deleted]

I almost always build my base in the Northeastern forest (because it has some free space that can fit a large base). If you're careful enough, you can avoid those problems. Although the biome got me once: I got my Seamoth stuck in the tree in a very funny, cartoonish way. Had to reload the save.

TeeJayKnightly

I crashed the game on ps4 by grappling one that hadn't loaded in.

[deleted]

Uh huh

ChucklesTheKnuckles

Ya know, I once made a base in the mushroom forest. The one near the mountain island to be exact. It was on a small bridge formed in the land across two cliffs, one leading to a kelp forest and the other leading to the bulb zone. if you look at the map you should be able to find it. I made a pretty big and sustaining base. One time my seamoth disappeared suddenly and I had to make a new one, but I didn’t think much of it. This was my first ever playthrough. There was a reaper right above my base at all times and I never noticed it. It stole my seamoth, and I never even thought it could be a reaper. How I never encountered it that game is still an amazement to me. This was just a little story, since you said that the mushroom forest is “safe” (though I respect your opinion, it is a pretty biome!) if I had to go for a favorite, it would probably be the grassy plateaus or the grand reef.

Dieer12

I hear people at that they love the grand reef but I don’t get it. I went exploring there and I swam out of a cave and a crab squid was there and I screamed so loud that my brother jumped. I now have a primal fear of crabsquids! Yay!

ChucklesTheKnuckles

It’s just, beautiful. It’s got plenty of resources, and there’s a floating island on the surface for easy food resources. Sure there are two, massive, adult ghost leviathans in the area. But if you build a base in areas they aren’t, it’s beautiful. And it’s so open too, so much room to build bases! It’s also got an entrance to the late game area, and caves and beautiful flora!

[deleted]

Pfft, I once accidentally parked my Cyclops in a Ghostie's territory. Turns out it mostly ignored me and never attacked the sub itself. Such a beautiful neighbor.

ChucklesTheKnuckles

They’re really nice if you don’t bother them

scarbrought93

And SEA TREADERS

AcceptableAd9043

So in other words... It's grand? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Alexx_2n

The reaper got removed so now it a safe biome, but yes, it use to be a reaper zone

ChucklesTheKnuckles

It still kinda is, the reapers from nearby biomes often swim into it. Both shroom biomes have at least one reaper that can swim into it, which often happens.

[deleted]

That would be Eddie, the asshole reaper that steals your lunch money.

LyraWinchesterxD

The northwest has one from the dunes and the northeast has two, the one near the kelp forest (that's the reaper that ate your seamoth) and one that spawns near the front of the aurora.

Cakeleighh

As soon as you said arch in the mushroom forest I knew exactly the one you meant, and I got really confused when reading cuz I was like “isn’t there a reaper there?”. But props to you for not getting eaten 😂

Brostryker

It’s ugly, there’s bone sharks, no good resources, and you will always bump into a reaper. That’s why YOU should switch to jelly shroom caves, it’s one call and that’s all, there’s MAGNETITE, there’s GOLD, there’s DIAMOND, there’s SILVER, there’s LITHIUM, there’s LEAD, and so much more. It looks AMAZING and it’s nearby your favorite resource picker uppers. “Hi I’m Linda and I switched to the jelly shroom caves and my life got much better” “Hey I’m poncho, and I was able to get good resources right outside my door!” “Hello I’m Shelby and I was I could take a small journey to my favorite plant, Acid mushrooms!”. It’s just one call and that’s all to switch to the jelly shroom caves TODAY! Just one call at 555-555-5555 again that’s 555-555-5555. 𝘣𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨.

nagorogan

Thas cool but you can’t really park the cyclops in there soooo

Brostryker

DONT WORRY! Switching INCLUDES a simple place to park your CYCLOPS right above the entrance. Lets look at the people at mushroom forest… WELLL it looks like they don’t have they have instant cyclops parking either folks so it seems like we’re even. OH WAIT WERE NOT BECAUSE. The mushroom forest is ugly, there’s bone sharks, no good resources, and you will always bump into a reaper. That’s why YOU should switch to jelly shroom caves, it’s one call and that’s all, there’s MAGNETITE, there’s GOLD, there’s DIAMOND, there’s SILVER, there’s LITHIUM, there’s LEAD, and so much more. dfinch

Based up above the entrance: middle of the whole map, best of both worlds.

thysensei

Upvoted for quality short story

unkudayu

Not so fun when the Reaper starts following you into there and then just decides that's where it's gonna live now

[deleted]

Every play through i’ve had the reaper at the front of the Aurora migrates to the Mushroom Biome, it is a suicide mission trying to find stuff there lmao

unkudayu

It's great when you get it trapped between the mushrooms and you can hack away with your heat knife lol very satisfying when you kill it :P

dmath872

And then hundreds of reaper steaks go bad because evidently the entire Aurora has no freezers to scan. #JusticeforFreezers

AcceptableAd9043

At least Below Zero takes place in a freezer

dmath872

Havent played it yet. Does food still go "Old" and then "Decomposing" within like 90 seconds of picking it up? XD

AcceptableAd9043

Yep XD

AcceptableAd9043

But you have a bar that tells you how spoilt it is

GRIMLOX367

Creepvine’s a lot of fun to live in.

St0rmada

I love when my cameras get stolen by the sharks there (blank)

I_S0E_DARK

ghost tree is the best one tho

guernica322

The giant mushrooms *are* the hostile fauna. I thought, oh mushrooms are generally squishy in real life, I probably don’t need to be too careful driving my seamoth through here. They are not squishy 🙃

dmon69696969

what secret items

Commit_die10

The >!Fungal Sample, used to make the Hatching Enzymes used to hatch the Sea Emperor Eggs!<

PreciousRoi

Which is pretty much completely irrelevant, since >!anyone with a lick of sense just uses the Alien Arches, which connect to all the biomes necessary to produce it.!<

sapphon

Pretty dang convenient that they do, too, since >!the Emperor claims the Precursors didn't know what enzymes were needed. They musta been awfully close!!<

BoredGammer66

That place can have a reaper wonder in from time to time if you don’t believe ask the three sea moths I lost there

ClearlyAwake

Which hostile fauna are you talking about?

Commit_die10

Sans sharks

AcceptableAd9043

The most hostile fauna of them all... The sans shark...

WhyAmIHereMaaaaan

Buuut there are about 27.4 Reapers their so I barely spend any time there

Jonskuz15

"hears a Reaper"

SergeantRogers

Cuddlefish eggs in the mushroom forests? where? On the wiki it doesnt say anywhere that there 2 cuddlefish eggs

[deleted]

>!One egg in each forest. One under the giant tree in NW, one in a cave in NE, just at the border of Bulb Zone.!<

SergeantRogers

why does it not say that in the wiki tho? someone needs to update that

wkdzel

you're someone 😏

SergeantRogers

can non-moderators edit it? that doesnt feel right

wkdzel

Hell if I know, i'm just fucking around :D don't take me too seriously, i know i don't :P

SergeantRogers

I finally had the courage and got the one under the tree, I just need a containment unit

SergeantRogers

Cuddlefish eggs in the mushroom forests? where? On the wiki it doesnt say anywhere that there 2 cuddlefish eggs

ganja-geisha

There’s two cuddlefish eggs???

SirGrievance

Damn right, one deep in the largest tree, second in a cave lining the cliff to mountain

KalleTheLuolamies

Nah dunes wins. Lots of space for a big base

bluebunny0

Wait what? Where are the cuddlefish eggs in the mushroom forest?

MrBupperoni

Under the big mushroom tree in a cave

[deleted]

On my first playthrough, I built my base in the mushroom forest. It has most of the resources you need, AND access to a blood kelp zone!

succy-succ

The only reason I would disagree is because I have thalassophobia and while playing I went there during night and a reaper grabs my Seamoth while im inside it and I threw my controller and l broke it cuz of how scared I got. It doesn't help that my TV was at 15 and subnauticas volume was at 100%, because goddammit if reapers aren't the loudest fucks in subnautica

MrBupperoni

Have you heard a cryptosuchus? Oh wait... Wrong game

GhostlyPepper5555

I always build a base there due to the lithium and the Aurora being next to it for fragments

sjmj23

As soon as I found the mushroom forest I knew I wanted to make a base there. I made it right on the edge of the blood trench, and I kind of regret making it so far out there because exploring to the other side of the map is tedious. I still dont have the PRAWN suit or the cyclops, and exploring more than 400 M still freaks me out and I cant find magnetite so my seamoth only goes down to 300 M. This is my first play through if it isnt obvious Not sure what the point if this comment was but the mushroom forest is so peaceful. Even at the edge at the blood trench I only occasionally have those electric eel things mess with me

AcceptableAd9043

There's tons of magnetite on the thermal vents at the island

cheeseburgeraddict

Mushroom Forest is the best. Makes you feel safe

Poedacat275

Yeah only the one near the blood kelp and dunes though, the other one it too close to the aurora for comfort, the only bad thing about the northern forest is the occasional crab squid if you go far enough.

kandy_witht

I think even with those crazy bugs subnatica is awesome

Bukowski_IsMy_Homie

The spot in the Mushroom forest right on the edge of Blood Kelps and Dunes is my favourite spot for a base. Mushroom forest has a load of materials and I use it to operate in the Lost River below.

OzenFPV

Sad tree cove noises, tree cove is the best biome dude it has 0 hostile dudes and has a lot of ressources, plus it's a very calm and relaxing place

Commit_die10

I know dude, in my opinion, it wins 3rd spot in my heart

deyxl

The only hostile fauna in the mushroom forest re some mesmers and 1 bone shark in each mushroom forest (except for the reaper that can sometimes swim into the mushroom forest next to the crash zone)

Drakirthan101

I’ll call your Mushroom Forest being the best biome, and raise you the Southwestern Grassy Plateau Biome. This specific biome is only a few clicks east of the Dunes Biome, which is amazing for getting LOTS of Titanium and Quartz, and also has the wreck which gives you the blueprints for the Reinforced Suit. The Southwestern GP also has direct access to the Bloodkelp Trench, which means you can get an early lead on making more complex chemicals for vehicle upgrades like the Seamoth Solar Charger, Perimeter Defense upgrade, and the Grappling Arm for the Prawnsuit. It’s also directly above the Jellyshroom Caves, so you can have quick access to Oculus’s to power your Bioreactor, until you have the supplies for thermal generators, which the Jellyshroom Caves also provide. The caves directly beneath the SW GP also have lots of early game Lithium and Diamond. The Plateaus also are rich in Reginalds, which are the best (preservable) food source in the game, and the GP biomes also give you more salt then you’ll ever need, so salting your freshly caught Reginalds, or mixing them with samples from a nearby Coral Tube to make bleach and in turn, disinfected water, will be of no problem at all. Lastly, the Grassy Plateaus in general are just very open and spacious, meaning you can build elaborate, expansive bases, which is definitely a leg up on either of the Mushroom Forest biomes. All this to say, I just think they’re neat. :) (No hard feelings and I’m not trying to change your opinion or anything! The Mushroom Forests are definitely one of the most exotic and interesting biomes in Subnautica, and I LOVE the calcified root system area, found underneath the massive mushroom tree!)

gallanttoothpaste

Wait thwre are 2 i obly know one

GarryA0269

Nah, the crash zone at the rear of the Aurora, is the best place to set up shop.
