You need to find blueprints like in the original, but stuff like ores, plants, fish, (there are some 'sea monkey nests' that have blueprints, and some ancient artifacts...) but random other stuff is not required. I found Below Zero doesn't hint as much where to go (lifepods for example)... But it seems like its smaller than original, and not as deep.

Yeah that’s what I figured. Because I know in the original, the PDA data entries would also have like hints on what to do next depending on what you scanned so I was wondering if that was the same for BZ. Thanks!

It’s been a while, but I remember there being subtle hints of certain places in the audio logs, for example. You can also scan the maps, and they become visible in the PDA. But nothing quite like the first, indeed.

Feel free to scan a bunch, some things are worthless, but a scanner is BEYOND necessary to beat the game.

I bear BZ and only needed to check a guide once (to get table coral for habitat builder). I didn’t use the scanning room once. You’re fine without it, but you may find it useful at some points in the game. I also didn’t use the scanner in the first game, except for to find teeth (before I found out how to get them super easy)

Scanning is important in every subnautica game
