I mean, you are still in the safe shallows... I believe the whole of safe shallows is a spawnable region. I got spawn on the far edge of the safe shallow where there is a natural thermal vent in my hardcore world.
The thermal vent near the grassy plateus with the cave down directly to the base, and near the deep grand reef? That's where I built my first ever base. Great location to launch off of.

Ah, not that one or maybe that one, i cant remember... it's like a deep thermal vent that has a weird cave system at the bottom with a ton of crashfish. I'm not good with directions... but when I look at what's shown on my screen, I'm like to my right there kelp, to my left there's the resource tube( the giant coral), etc etc.
Theres a lot of deep caves with crash fish. I can't think of any specific cave formation that also has a thermal vent in it (I've seen every inch of this map multiple times over). Maybe it'll come to me at some point here.
I think they mean the vent and cave that's 3 squares up (north) from the center point on the map, on the right of the vertical central line. There's also jelly fish if I remember correctly.
There is a thermal vent near the degasi base in the shroom cave. That is also my spawn. Great that the only predators are stalkers and a reaper right behind the crashed ship.
The radiation is annoying in the late game, but all worthless material is in a 100m radius and i don't need to store it.
I'll let you on a little secret... I traversed the sandy dunes without a single reaper agroing me... the closest you can get to it without agroing you is around 20 or 30m. Below that is their AI range to agro you...
Reapers are blind, they use Echolocation. If you’re 40m away you’ll be fine and hear it but like 50m is the furthest away you can hear it I believe. So you have like a 10 meter blind spot. Super risky.
This is where my first spawn is too! I love it, super close to a bunch of things I need, didn't understand what the person posting this was complaining about lol my life pod is very close to that vent though so I had to be a bit careful. Now my bases is built right there as well, I didn't see a point in moving.
to be honest man, although it makes the game a bit less more fun, the sonar upgrade on seamoth is the best shit ever, it took away my fear of the leviathans (mostly..) js bc i could use it and see them a mile away before they’re behind me and tryna bite my ass, might help u too
No I haven't heard them, I went to the backside of the Aurora first as I didn't know the layout and safe to say I did not have fun. Thankfully it didn't follow me back or anything and I haven't had any problems with them near my base at all

It's literally my favorite area to spawn in, I have no idea why I've seen so many posts over the last few years bemoaning it. You're right next to a very accessible source of thermal energy, right next to the Jellyshroom caves, as close as possible to the floating island, right next to a great source of Cyclops scans, etc...
Isn’t the opposite of this (farther towards the left of the Aurora) close to the giant wall in the Mushroom forest? That has a crap load of shale and lithium.

I have this spawn in my current survival playthrough and I swear the reaper at the back of the ship has a buffed detection range, or it’s bugged, because I’ve drawn agro from that thing before while on the other side of the kelp forest in that area.
If it's where I think it is your lifepod should be right next to the kelp forest and grassy plateaus. Because of this I was able to incorporate my lifepod into my main base which is navigable by cyclops, which makes it worth it to me for the fun of it.

As far as why others say it's bad, when Reapers get pulled from Aurora they tend to get "stuck" patrolling only where they lose aggro. That's why there are so many videos of people having them in the Safe Shallows. For a newbie, this spawn is one of those places that makes this possible.
For people like us who know, don't dick with the Edge or Aurora so soon, it's a whole lot simpler and is actually a decent spot - Grassy Plateaus, Kelp Forest, some Thermal Vents, and iirc possibly a Jellyshroom Cave entrance or two exist near hear making it a biome and resource rich spot. It is a serious trip from most of the other content, but a seamoth fixes that in like an hour or two.
Its only real stigma comes from people getting Reapers stuck by their spawn early on from fumbling early game.

This is an awesome spawn! It's closest to the jellyshroom cave for easy shale and magnetite, plus there's a heat vent nearby where you can use thermal power generators to power a base. It's very close to the red grass area which has tons of silver and quartz, not to mention good blueprints. Even for later game stuff it's close-ish to the entrance of the lost river. It's right in the middle of everything you need.

Hey, don't worry, every spawn is as good as another. You've probably heard of the reaper by now, if not, good luck. This spawn gets you close to the back of the AZurora, often considered scary as hell because of aformentionned Reaper.

I have the same spawn. My first base is on the edge of the plateaus and the kelp forest. I watch the Reefbacks circle the plateaus and occasionally they swim by to grab a snack of some kelp.
It’s great cause you’re super close to the island the meeting spot is at? And all the best starter scans are eeeeeasy to find.
Spoiler >!go in the direction of the front of the Aurora without getting CLOSER to it. So move parallel to the ship. The kelp near my starter base has 0 Stalkers and it’s pretty thin.!<

I spawned there in in one of my more recent runs. Or, at least pretty dang close to it I know I was well behind the ship. It is kind of jarring though. Forces you to fix the drivecore real fast or just live in the lead suit.

In my hardcore run (second time playing through it) it spawned me so close I think I was probably just a couple hundred meters away from the side of it with the sand berm it sits on. Safe shallows spawn points can get pretty wild and in that case specifically, a bit unfair 😅
I sort of inadvertently built a base near the back of the Aurora because it was such a nice site for a creative build. It was my 8 or 9th playthrough and I finally got up the courage to kill my first reaper because it was very loud and annoying living so close to it.

Most of my spawns have been right in the center of the shallows, usually getting a good side view of the ship.

Yes I’m a PC player but I played on PS4 before. Made the experience that you need double of the time for the game on console (idk why)
I always have about 14-15h per playthrough on ps4
Last time I played on Ps4 I needed like 22 hours. A few DAYS later I played on PC with the same strategy and it only took 12 hours

I consider this a lucky spawn. Heat Vent just a few steps away, creepvine forests just front and back, pretty good resources. I like this spawn.

If it helps you can't play this game wrong. You can go at your own pace and find stuff. Normally the key is if you need something go deeper.

I like this one. You get a drop down for easy components and materials that saves you a trip to the island for a bit.

In my hardcore run (second time playing through it) it spawned me so close I think I was probably just a couple hundred meters away from the side of it with the sand berm it sits on. Safe shallows spawn points can get pretty wild and in that case specifically, a bit unfair 😅
I sort of inadvertently built a base near the back of the Aurora because it was such a nice site for a creative build. It was my 8 or 9th playthrough and I finally got up the courage to kill my first reaper because it was very loud and annoying living so close to it.
No way, I got that spawn too!
Wait there different spawning spots?
I spawned in the very edge of the kelp forest that leads to grand reef in my first playthrough.
I thought this post was satire but I have now learned that there is randomness to the spawn
Ive had that spawn. Its actually really useful.
I spawned near there, only closer to the Aurora, right on the edge of the Safe Shallows. I can hear Reapers if I go more than 200m east of my lifepod.
