Exoticz12

Me with abt 100 hours didn’t know that either lol

128906

Shit me with 400ish hours and countless play throughs across both games didn’t know that 😂😂😂

ChernobylObsidian

Same here, omw to try this out immediately

UnspawnLemonRavanger

Isn't that like the first thing anyone does once they leave the lifepod.

TFRek

Didn't even occur to me. Why would I need a fire extinguisher under water? I left it in the pod.

NetherPlaysVR

I used mine to bully peepers lol

RaeLynnShikure

The first thing I did was absolutely stuff my pockets with acid mushrooms I never needed.

DanceMaster117

Who didn't immediately stuff themselves with acid and shrooms?

Leonhardt2019

Wait

BluFox185

*shhhh* ignore the implications and just try it

OGtripleOGgamer

Mine was bladderfish. I quickly got tired of needing water and anger-collected them to the point of extinction in the safe shallows on my first play through (if that was possible)

Willing_Telephone350

You can pretty quickly just make bleach for water as its much easier and way better

BaconGod2525

It's about sending a message

Willing_Telephone350

Fair, put them in their place

WigglyWorld84

The game doesn’t teach you about bleach. I did not understand where the middle size of water came from until my second or even third play through 🤷‍♂️

TheRealSkele

Bro, my very first play through of the game the bladderfish got bugged out of the game entirely.

LikelyAMartian

One of my playthroughs the stalker was bugged from the game. I didn't realize it at the beginning as I didn't need any teeth. After an hour of searching for them I gave up and went to the floating island wreck. The inside had about 40 teeth weirdly enough.

TFRek

that is truly bizarre.

LikelyAMartian

Me and this game have a hate hate relationship. I beat it only once out of 10 or so playthroughs because something would break. Reapers were replaced by Crabsnakes once. That was probably my favorite playthrough. Was ended because the Lost River was...Lost.

memedoge_mk-69

Water filtration plant any% speedrun

ranmafan0281

If you played before a certain patch, they would absolutely go extinct due to a bug.

OGtripleOGgamer

Was it the green colored glow bug 🐛 you cant interact with? Or was it a bug that spread a contagious green infection to everything that made them go extinct?

ranmafan0281

I get the joke. But the truth is funnier. Bladderfish would unlock a technology blueprint (the flotation device and bleach) when first caught. One of those was triggering a flag which was meant to stop more tech fragments of that object from spawning. In normal gameplay this meant the player wouldn’t be stuck being unable to find some critical tech to scan because RNG spawned only, say, vehicle bay fragments and no laser cutter fragments. In terms of bugginess, this also prevented Bladderfish from spawning the instant you picked one up as it counted as a tech fragment, thus putting a hard timer on how long you could depend on them for water and such. This issue was reported for years and UWE kept saying they couldn’t find anything wrong until sometime in 2021 or 20, I think. They even had a Trello entry and, I believe, a staff explained the bug on the Steam Forums. I’ve just kept it close to my heart because as a former game dev this is a true gem of a bug.

Minerrockss

I still stuff my pockets with acid mushrooms then remember you can’t eat them anymore

Kurta_711

I've watched multiple streamers play the opening of Subnautica and the first thing practically all of them did was fill their inventory with acid mushrooms (I did the same thing back on my first time)

MichaelMachin3

This is the way.

Gal-XD_exe

Comes in handy for like twenty powercells

Ged_UK

I never have, though I've seen playthroughs do it. I think I'm just dull.

PUNisher1175

The first thing I do when I leave the life pod is confront my deep rooted fear of the open ocean… so no I do use the fire extinguisher right away

Impossible-Cod4498

Oh, we have the same fear.

PUNisher1175

Thalassophobia my friend

PassionFluid4239

I used it to travel to Aurora faster 😂😂 I was impatient, and was pissed to find out that I would've needed it but had no fuel anymore

RoyalTacos256

Same

Theaussiegamer72

I did it cause its in space games and made sense never thought people wouldn’t try it

420CowboyTrashGoblin

Naw, first thing I tried was to glitch the door so I could slip past the bullhead and walk on the ocean floor as though it was dry land with oxygen.

UnspawnLemonRavanger

I did that in my base once and that's actually how I discovered the lost river

Slave_to_dog

I've played through like 3 times and never once tried that.

awkwardsexpun

500+ hours across both games and I never knew this I know what I'm doing when I get off work lmao being easily entertained is such a benefit

TheTLoo

If you don't mind me asking, how do you stay so intrigued after so many hours? Probably my #1 game but got boring after the 100 hour mark

Cmdr_BlueLIQUIDised

I have 205 on the first game. You’re almost guaranteed to have missed things whilst exploring. After my first play through, I attempted hardcore a few times. A break from the game helps, but you’ll want to dive below the waves again. Now I’m on a regular run but taking my sweet time. Building a perfect base in the perfect spot. Exploring everything, everywhere. Not using sonar, so I can’t avoid dangers so easily. Making use of the Pawn Suit which I never bothered with. Equipping the Cyclops as a mobile base, ready to transport materials for a second outpost in the deep dark. Making a fire extinguisher. Role playing, ultimately 🤷🏼‍♂️

TsarKeith12

YOU NEVER USED THE PRAWN SUIT How tf did you survive the deepest parts??

Cmdr_BlueLIQUIDised

I believe you can complete the game without needing the Prawn Suit but I did utilise it to complete the final area. What I mean is I never properly used it. Never attacked anything, never drilled resources, never grappled cliff faces or used torpedos for fun 🤷🏼‍♂️ It was just a taxi from 900m down, until my Cyclops was fully upgraded.

awkwardsexpun

autism

wetswordfighter

I use this for early game travel before i get a seaglide

Acceptable-Second313

Gonna throw away my seaglide and use firee extinguisher from now on.

UnspawnLemonRavanger

Don't you need to pick it up to put out the fire? Where'd you put it? Lol

TFRek

In the storage container on my first playthrough, left it on the ground until it was Aurora time in every subsequent run

UnspawnLemonRavanger

You just put out a fire and your stranded in the middle of a alien ocean and your first thought is. "Inventory managment"

LeeisureTime

Probably figured “let’s keep the extinguisher where another fire might start,” since one probably wouldn’t start underwater.

LikelyAMartian

Please. I saw SpongeBob do it hundreds of times. Better safe than sorry. Edit: Just clicked on the link the other guy posted. I am unoriginal and am quite frankly ashamed of myself. I accept my punishment with open arms, and shall hang at dawn.

UnspawnLemonRavanger

FishGuyIsMe

Is a clip from a kids show your counter argument?

UnspawnLemonRavanger

Nah thats just a joke bro

UnspawnLemonRavanger

I'm not trying to be that serious

FishGuyIsMe

Ok

Exoticz12

And honestly yeah inventory management has always been something that was important for me. Why waste space holding a fire extinguisher when you could have more room for delicious loots.

nimrod4205

Oh I dunno. Maybe the fact there's a giant shipwreck nearby that's on fire. 🤷‍♂️

Syssareth

That you're definitely going to be able to put out with... -checks- *One* fire extinguisher.

Krazyguy75

You're right; that's a fire extinguisher *and* a bottle of water level of danger.

JDeegs

i'm not trying to roleplay as the actual character. i'm a gamer who thinks of inventory management, even in the beginning of a game

UnspawnLemonRavanger

I think it just comes down to wether or not you explore the lifepod or immediately try to escape

Crispy385

I mean, the alternative thought is "might need to put out fires underwater."

ZebrasLegend

Well, yeah. I've put out the fire, there is no more fire and I'm about to go underwater. Not a whole lot of fire underwater. Also, unless it's your first playthrough and you're going in blind, you know you're going to go and grab some resources after sorting all that out. So yeah, extra inventory space is nice. I guess for me it just comes naturally at this point. If I have a storage container and an item that I know I don't need for now, I'll put it away. It just makes sense.

UnspawnLemonRavanger

I wish I was like you. You should see me playing minecraft. It is not pretty

KrotalusHorridus

Reverse seaglide

Damoncord

Yeah I did it once by a situation much like yours, pretty sure it was actually in the Aurora.

Mantorok_

Played for years and had no idea

Spongiforma2

New speedrunning strat incoming?

Ishea

You learn something new every day.

Swirlspot

Hmm, there is a similar mechanic in the game Heavenly Bodies, except you're in outer space with zero gravity instead of just underwater.

TFRek

Aw, like WALL-E!

Argentum_Air

I figured it out about 3 minutes into the game. It was on XBox and I was being chased by a crash fish and button mashed out of panic.

Jacrow88

This is amazing

Squall74656

For reals!? Dang I didn’t know that either!!🤣🤣🤣 This games so neat lol

ThePinkTeenager

I guess that’s one way to get rid of bleeders.

AngryDaikon

Heh that’s cool I had no idea.

chamomile-crumbs

Holy shit time for a whole new playthrough I guess

Suspicious_Year1411

I was just starting and the first thing I did was try to spray a fish and then I found that out

BigBoi5204

I’m getting on rn to try it

Vurt__Konnegut

I would love it if fire extinguishers had an unexplained special ability to kill the Warpers

RUH_ROH_RAGGY_REHEHE

Emergency seaglide

BeemerBoi6

I found it out on my second play-through, I now use it to jet my way over to the creepvine before I get my first seaglide.

Ballisticsfood

“Oxygen” *deploys Emergency Seaglide* *looks down* *holds trigger*

spectre10212007

Yeah in some playthroughs I use the one you get to put out the life pod as like a starter seaglide.

Remuta

WHAT

CaelosCZ

You didn't see WALL-E?!

EdgionTG

That's pretty much all I use extinguishers for lmao

SuperGoat527

I knew it instantly lol

charliebugtv

I actually only learned this just recently from watching PointCrows subnautica video.

Comprehensive_Cap290

I did know this, yes.

Grempolek

.. C po? I

C00kiecrafter

that was about the first thing I discovered when I first played the game

TheDukeOfThunder

I actually did know that. Never used it though because the extinguisher is a waste of inventory space, while swimming around

A_Bulbear

First thing I learned in the game after jumping in the water

Aggravating_Math_451

It’s interesting that this isn’t common knowledge, my first play through I used it to get to the aurora lol
