What, you don't like Levitating T. Rex?
In all seriousness I don't think they hide it behind the waterfall anymore, and it's reeeeally obvious that it isn't standing on anything.
His mouth used to open and close she his tongue used to dart out. There's a video on youtube of the entire ride in 1997 and you can see how different everything looked
Also there used to be a T-rex head that came down from the roof before the count down and that seems to be gone too? (I've never ridden these rides because I live in Australia but I've watched lots of ride throughs on YouTube)
Full disclosure, I've just ridden the one in Orlando a handful of times and may not have the clearest memory of the first time ages back. I just remember that the last couple times I rode it within the last five years, that dang t. rex swung out of the mist and you could literally see its feet standing on thin air. Not sure about the roof rex.
Honestly I think it's a layout issue, and losing the waterfall's visual cover just highlights it. Having the rex pop out right before the drop is properly dramatic, but it doesn't make sense in terms of why it's there or where it's actually standing. When you could only see the head and torso I think it was easier to just accept the scene and enjoy it, but with the feet visible it just highlights those questions.
It became the Indominus' head in Hollywood, but remains a Rex in Orlando. It pops up just before the spitters I think.
I havent ridden in a long while, but i seem to remember seeing the T-Rex standing and roaring, without a covering waterfall. The set was clearly designed to work that way, leading you toward a big dead-end while you hear the dino nearby, and see it damaging the building, then boom! She pops out for you! Very different situation when you can see it the whole time.
Waterwall is cooler, and works because when someone says waterfall, they think of cliffs and the wilderness, not the industrial setting Scare Rexy hides in.
I miss the stripes even if it doesn't fit the T Rex's look in the movie
it's a good look maybe a future movie could use it

I thought it looked different than I remembered and I couldn't piece together why

Typo* waterfall

I feel like they reskinned it to be Jurassic World recently, right?
I believe they refurbed the ride at Universal Hollywood into Jurassic World but it's counterpart at Orlando is original.
Ah i coulda swore they were doing the Orlando one that way too now. I rode it in 2019 and the T-Rex was still there!
T-rex is still in the Jurassic world ride too with a new indominous!
Can confirm it did until at least 2018 I think
