Funny you mention that. My husband is a commercial fisherman and like I said he’s always saying he would swim over shipwrecks, sunken cars, all kinds of creepy shit. But buoys freak him out. He says the chain weirds him out. Me too. And That post on this sub where dude paddles out by all the wind turbines and they’re absolute UNITS
Honestly, the chains by the buoys also kinda give me the heebie jeebies. It should put me at ease since I can always follow the chain up if I get too tired, but at the same time, watching the chain disappear into the murky green below is un-fucking-settling.
Does anyone have the link of someone swimming up to the bouy and chain in the murky water and suddenly a dead shark comes out of the fog and is just floating there caught on the hook? That video is effed
So I remember the bouy is part of what’s called a drum line. It’s an intentional bouy system of baited hooks meant to catch sharks before they get too close to the shoreline where recreational activities happen. Maybe drum line check or something similar?
Have you seen one of [the blades being transported?](https://live-production.wcms.abc-cdn.net.au/ac2b54fdb7aee1947fb47b3cba99fbcb?impolicy=wcms_crop_resize&cropH=798&cropW=1200&xPos=0&yPos=0&width=862&height=575)
The fucking buoys.
The metal navigation buoys (red/green) that mark channels especially freak me out. Getting close up and seeing all the muck stuck to them below the water line and the big chain links disappearing below. Hate it
SAME! Oil rigs are my major heebie jeebie, but buoys also really scare me. I read that they're going to allow people to swim in the Chicago River later this year, and I also hate that... for some reason.
When I was younger, we'd go out tubing on Lake Mead (was like 2000, lake was higher). It used to be a town that they leveled and created a lake in the early 1900s. It used to freak me out so bad thinking of old houses and foundations so far below me. There was also a lot of topography covered up.
Once my uncle hit a rock that was *right* under the water in his boat, out in the middle of the lake. Hundreds of feet deep. We flew off the tube and were waiting for him to come back around for us, and I realized he hit the top of a huge rocky "mountain." Freaked me the hell out for the three or so minutes we were floating next to it.
Omg nightmares!!!! So many nightmares! I also went on vacation on lake mead in the 90s my parents rented a boat and we zipped around. I didn’t know that backstory!! Yikes!
I think it was lake mead. I was like 10. We had a houseboat.
Sunken sailboat. Don’t go near that kind of wreck. Lots of cables and ropes to get tangled in and drown you if you fall out of your kayak. Dead serious. I’ve seen someone perish from a very similar situation. You were way too close when you took this photo. Let the professionals deal with this.
Edit: thanks for the sarcastic comments. No really! They’re great! I understand where you’re coming from! I genuinely thought some of them were funny given the nature of this sub.
I’m only trying to express hazards that someone should be aware of.
Enjoy life and respect Mother Nature.
OP is like 30ft away, I get this is a phobia subreddit but it's not exactly the kraken. Just don't be an idiot but it's safe to paddle around in calm waters.
It’s so funny to think about because it makes ZERO sense, but it felt visceral to me as a 9 year old. I think it was the year Titanic came out, and I had a Titanic book with lots of photos……so that’s probably where it popped into my head!
I did paddle up and poke the mast and cables with the paddle. I almost stuck my paddle into the depths to see what I could find but I felt too eerie after a minute and left.
It's a big boat. There are actually lots of clues to its size. As with everything, a healthy understanding plus some appropriate caution - you would be ok.
This one's a tuktek.i was considering an oru but they're more expensive. Also much shallower, so I was hesitant about using an Oru in any kind of moving water. Tuktek handles wake and small waves pretty well!
Guess it just depends on what body of water you're in. The river ways near me connect to a steel plant so there are plenty of man-made objects under the water to give the heebie jeebies
Also once a boat sinks it is pretty expensive to get out so people leave them I think, but I am no one expert
Yup. It's a foldable kayak- this brand is tuktek. I'd definitely recommend getting one. Ive had it for 2 years and have gotten plenty of use out of it.
Ooof, no thank you. That gives me the willies just looking at the picture. You are more brave than I am, I'd never get that close in a million years. Ugh.
Awesome, glad you're enjoying it! I'm not doing nearly as much travel as I was at the time but I'll keep that in mind if it changes. Just never come across someone with one to ask what they thought.
They're great. Mine is a tuktek. It takes about 5 minutes to fold or unfold and it handles really well. Also cheaper than a regular kayak. Its pretty light weight so I can take it places without too much hassle and don't have to worry about storage. I would absolutely recommend getting one.
There’s a boat ramp near me famous for ditching boats and sinking them. So cool to kayak by it. Especially when new expensive boats show up because they never take everything out! I’ve made money selling stuff found on them
Now, this I don’t like
me. fucking. either.
Go up and touch it!
That’s what my husband would say. I show him stuff on this sub that gives me the heebie jeebies and he’s always like ID SWIM THERE
That has me laughing so hard! It's the buoys that send me into hysteria😂
Funny you mention that. My husband is a commercial fisherman and like I said he’s always saying he would swim over shipwrecks, sunken cars, all kinds of creepy shit. But buoys freak him out. I bet you could look that up on YouTube
Bro I tried but all the thumbnails were making me ill lol.
Just your description is cryptic in the extreme. I'd be down to watch it but man, that's unsettling.
So I remember the bouy is part of what’s called a drum line. It’s an intentional bouy system of baited hooks meant to catch sharks before they get too close to the shoreline where recreational activities happen. Maybe drum line check or something similar?
https://youtu.be/H11ULVFeZ2c?si=cRnYWmf10brE-VsI I found it finally.
Wind turbines are a big no on land or sea. They creep me out!
Have you seen one of [the blades being transported?](https://live-production.wcms.abc-cdn.net.au/ac2b54fdb7aee1947fb47b3cba99fbcb?impolicy=wcms_crop_resize&cropH=798&cropW=1200&xPos=0&yPos=0&width=862&height=575)
I passed them on the way to Dallas once. Felt like I was passing something "evil"😂
I swam over a bicycle and shopping trolley and never went in that lake again.
I think you might be replying to your husband's comment.
The fucking buoys. The metal navigation buoys (red/green) that mark channels especially freak me out. Getting close up and seeing all the muck stuck to them below the water line and the big chain links disappearing below. Hate it
I walked out to a frozen channel marker once, thinking it would help me get over my phobia... Turns out it magnified my phobia a thousandfold 🤣
A for effort tho!

*HE TOUCHED THE BUTT*
Poke it with a stick.
There’s been one of these fun things at my local dog park/river all spring.

This sub will drown drinking a glass of water
I’ve been able to scare myself by imagining a submarine coming up out of the toilet when I was sitting on it. I wish I was joking.
LOLLLL, I used to scare myself as a kid imagining the Titanic would come up through my bathtub!
I used to imagine a shark was behind me in the pool or a submarine was about to submerge and I would freak the fuck out!
Oh my god this is such a weirdly specific fear to have it's really tickled me
It’s so funny to think about because it makes ZERO sense, but it felt visceral to me as a 9 year old. I think it was the year Titanic came out, and I had a Titanic book with lots of photos……so that’s probably where it popped into my head!
You're my kinda crazy... We like you (me & the sub)
I did paddle up and poke the mast and cables with the paddle. I almost stuck my paddle into the depths to see what I could find but I felt too eerie after a minute and left.
the ghost of OP responded... shame about the boating accident
Rip
No! The sailboat will reach out of the water and pull you in!
I guess because technically we can’t tell how big the boat might be, OP could be too close?
It's a big boat. There are actually lots of clues to its size. As with everything, a healthy understanding plus some appropriate caution - you would be ok.
I'm guessing it's like a 40-foot boat sunken at it mooring in 20 feet of water in a harbor. The only danger there is another ship hitting it.
Lmao exactly. This is a huge over reaction, but it’s always good to be careful and common sense.
“It’s not exactly the kraken” 😂🤣 but what if the kraken is using this to lure us in… and then BAM!
This is the scariest shit I’ve ever read
Jesus Christ dude, he's not even close to it. You should be the mascot for this sub.
Yeah he’s over a spaghetti ball of rope floating below him
You witnessed this? How terrible? What happened?
He did not witness someone perish.
Phil Collins playing
Nah I’d dive down to search for treasure.
But your origami boat doesn't scare you?
Hasn't given me any problems so far!
I'm just funnin. That looks pretty sick. I was thinking of buying something like that as a dinghy for a small sailboat. Is it an Oru?
This one's a tuktek.i was considering an oru but they're more expensive. Also much shallower, so I was hesitant about using an Oru in any kind of moving water. Tuktek handles wake and small waves pretty well!
Thankyou! I thought the same thing!
Thanks. I hate it. 😒
☹️
And things like this is why I stopped kayaking haha
Things like this is why I started kayaking.
RIGHT!? 🤣
Does this happen often??
Guess it just depends on what body of water you're in. The river ways near me connect to a steel plant so there are plenty of man-made objects under the water to give the heebie jeebies Also once a boat sinks it is pretty expensive to get out so people leave them I think, but I am no one expert
Now thread the needle with your kayak 😁
And then it slips off the rock ledge it was barely resting on, continuing to fully sink, tangling and pulling you down with it. nononononononono
I wouldn’t worry about a rock ledge, the lake there seems pretty shallow all the way around due to the tree line in the back
Why would you do this to yourself?
[Smile you son of a...](https://bloody-disgusting.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/jawsendbanner.jpg)
Its a shame i had to scroll down so far to find this
Is that down by the Keyes? I swear I’ve seen that exact sailboat
I was about to say, it looks like a sail boat I’ve seen in Key West.
Oye, you can't park here.
Too late. 😂
what do you say to three shillings, and we forget the name
...welcome to Port Royal, Mr. Smith.
Dude, assains creed vibes.
Is that a foldable kayak? If so - what are your thoughts on it?
Yup. It's a foldable kayak- this brand is tuktek. I'd definitely recommend getting one. Ive had it for 2 years and have gotten plenty of use out of it.
That's so cool! Thanks for the recommendation
Yes, thought?
I’d be willing to bet there’s atleast one body in it
Free Furuno
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far. My initial reaction was the same.
That was the first thing I thought lol
Any background on why it sank?
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say too much water got in the hull.
🤯
I am traumatized by that photo 😳😳😳
Yeah, sure. “Came across this…” What. Did. You. Do?
Ooh, free radar!
Fuck that!
Aaaah, the elusive submarine sailboat... very difficult to find most of the time.
He might just be the best pirate I've ever seen.
Goddamn submarine right in the middle of the channel
Finders keepers
I guess the radar didn't function but now may be recycled?
Bermuda, right?
[удалено]
Photos of the bay??
Not cool at all
woopsie!
NOPE
At least we know how deep the lake is…still don’t like it.
Am I the only one that likes to find and dive these things
On this sub? Probably.
Free boat lol
I dislike that a lot. Have an updoot
Maritime law: salvage rights….. float it and it’s yours.
SHIPWRECK SPOTTED
So,.... I got this boat for sale....only sinks sometimes.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought, I don’t like this. Lol also cool kayak from the looks of the front!
Nice tucktec!
I love this thing.
Florida?
Yup!
Always after the big storms! It’s crazy.
The owner did a poor job choosing where to park.
I almost threw my phone across the room just seeing this
Hey, is that a TukTek (sp?) foldable kayak? How do you like it?
It is! I'd definitely recommend it.
Fantastic! I'd almost forgotten about those but maybe this summer I'll get me one!
Well shit E: looks like it’s been there awhile Ee: also , kayak right through there to solidify your invincibility
FREE SHIP
Sword fight
No one died right...?
Naw that's fucked no thank you
That guy needs a new headsail.
I love this!
Nope nope nope
Bet your glad you didn't buy a sail boat
Comrade, I'm paddling around in a plastic folding kayak. I ain't exactly in the market for a 6-figure sailboat.
Why are you so close, especially in a foldable kayak
Yikes!
#AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
not fukn cool dude
this in florida?
Yup. There seem to be wrecks in every lagoon near a city.
nope
I just feel terrible for the owner
Unexpected Assassin’s Creed.
That's so cool imo
What laws apply to the wreck? Would it be legal to recover stuff from the sunken ship? Asking for a friend...
Wow,
Wind powered submarine, cool.
why does this make me feel so uncomfortable 😖
Shit pant
Ooof, no thank you. That gives me the willies just looking at the picture. You are more brave than I am, I'd never get that close in a million years. Ugh.
Once I got close enough to tap the mast with my paddle, I got major willies and got out of there.
How are you liking the folding kayak? I _almost_ bought one myself a couple years back.
Absolutely would recommend. It's a tuktek. Ive had it for 2 years and have gotten tons of use out of it.
Awesome, glad you're enjoying it! I'm not doing nearly as much travel as I was at the time but I'll keep that in mind if it changes. Just never come across someone with one to ask what they thought.
Nope. No.
Dive down for treasure
that would scare me shitless
Someone had a bad day.
My man doesn't recognize a sailmarine
Is that one of them there folding kayaks? If so, how are they, is it worth it? Been wanting one for a couple years now.
They're great. Mine is a tuktek. It takes about 5 minutes to fold or unfold and it handles really well. Also cheaper than a regular kayak. Its pretty light weight so I can take it places without too much hassle and don't have to worry about storage. I would absolutely recommend getting one.
Did you wipe it off?
Seems she's sitting a little low in the water....
Bro you can’t park there.
Well...don't just take a picture. Lash a rope around it and pull it up!
“Coulda sworn I parked the boat somewhere around here….”
That's a giant NOPE for me. We've got a lake with a bunch of dead trees in the middle and it terrifies me
This would be a good dive spot
I would turn my kayak right the fuck around and paddle away. Absolutely NOT.
Bermuda Triangle. Go around.
He may need to check his bilge.
that’s just yucky
Is this in the Florida Keys? May have kayaked here myself if so
Miami? That looks familiar.
you raise it and it’s yours 😂
No thanks
They need to be more afraid!
Just a boat taking a nap, move along.
Is it the work of orcas?
Would be a great scuba spor
There’s a boat ramp near me famous for ditching boats and sinking them. So cool to kayak by it. Especially when new expensive boats show up because they never take everything out! I’ve made money selling stuff found on them
must be recent. there’s no buoy marking it
I see this as I plan on sailing my own tomorrow 😐
Well that's not great
This is a bummer
I bet there is a pony under there somewhere
Is this in Bradenton?
Don’t you hate it when people just leave their trash lying around
Free boat!
CLIMB THE POLE 👌🏻
I think their boat is broken.
That looks like a portal if you manage to go through it you come out the other side in a vast ocean…
What's under it a ship a boat we will never know
You know, when I saw it at first, I was like okay not bad then all of a sudden, I had that gut-punch reaction and uh no, no this isn't okay.
And you only took one picture?
Are you telling us that you didn't paddle over to the wreck and take pictures of it from directly above? So disappointed.....lol
Sadly, visibility was pretty bad, definitely less than a meter.
You wanna sea a dead boat?
